From Deacon Dick
Gaudete! (Rejoice!)
Today is known as Gaudete Sunday because we are invited to be filled with joyful expectation as we celebrate the coming
of the Lord as part of the human family. Our joy is manifested in the Rose colored vestments of the priest and deacon.
Here’s a piece from author Max Lucado (In the Grip of Grace) that translates this joy into more human terms.
God Is for You
God is for you. Turn to the sidelines; that’s God cheering your run. Look past the finish line, that’s God applauding your
steps. Listen for him in the bleachers, shouting your name. Too tired to continue? He’ll carry you. Too discouraged to
fight? He’s picking you up. God is for you.
God is for you. Had he a calendar, your birthday would be circled. If he drove a car, your name would be on the bumper.
If there’s a tree in heaven, he’s carved your name in the bark (
‘Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne.’ (Isaiah 49:15) What a
bizarre question. Can you mothers imagine feeding your infant and then later asking, ‘What was the baby’s name?’ No.
I’ve seen you care for your young. You stroke the hair, you touch the face, and you sing the name over and over. Can a
mother forget? No way. But God says, ‘even if she could forget ( I will never forget you.’ (Isaiah 49:15)”
Can we feel the eternal joy now?

Over 170 years after its founding, local parish life is still the center of the Diocese of Albany. Our people
are the center of our parishes – communities in which we celebrate our faith and function as a living family
in Christ. Looking ahead, it is our responsibility to ensure that this legacy is securely positioned so that
future generations may likewise benefit and grow in faith. To accomplish this, we are joining all parishes
in our Diocese by participating in the RE-IGNITING OUR FAITH campaign.
In partnership with the Re-Igniting Our Faith Foundation, we are now embarking on a bold new journey to make
long-held dreams a reality at Christ Our Light. The Re-Igniting Our Faith campaign strives to address current and
future parish and Diocesan needs. As Catholics, we are members of the universal Church and we are called to
embrace this extraordinary endeavor that seeks to secure the future of our parish, our Diocese and our faith.
The Diocese of Albany was built on the sacrifices and dedication of those who came before us. Now it is our turn to make
an investment in the future of the Catholic Church in our community. May the Holy Spirit guide and direct our efforts as
we begin this historic journey together.
Please join me in praying for our success throughout the Re-Igniting Our Faith campaign.
Congratulations and blessings too our newly
confirmed, their sponsors and families as
they celebrated Mass on November 20.
Thank you to all who helped make
Confirmation a beautiful celebration.
