UNIVERSITY PARK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Ninth Sunday after Pentecost July 17, 2016

Since 1894

The UPark Core Values: Inclusive, Intergenerational, Interfaith, International

For the summer, our childcare in the nursery is from 8:45-11:45am. This is quality care for newborns to 3.5 years or potty trained provided by Barbara P-Walker and Brittany Yepsen. The Nursery is located on the Main Level of the Christian Ed Wing.

For the summer, children ages 3.5 through 3rd grade are invited to Children’s Church, which is provided by Christina Pacheco and Hannah Westra. Children gather in the lower level Noakes Hall, which is beneath our older Wasser chapel. Children will leave the Sanctuary for Children’s Church following the Children’s Message at the 9am and 10:30am services.

Sundays through September 4, we will have two services

The Peniel at 9 Service (the name of our combined Informal and Peniel for the summer), will meet at 9am in Wasser Chapel.

The Traditional Service will be at 10:30am in the Sanctuary.

Summer Hospitality Time From 9:45-10:15am beneath the Courtyard portico, we will offer hospitality time. As in past years, this is a good time to mingle….for those attending the 9am service to stay after that service and for folks attending the 10:30 service, to arrive early for hospitality time. Loaves & Fishes

If you would like to make a donation for this year’s build, make a check out to the church, with Loaves & Fishes in the memo line, and put it in the collection. Or if you can make a monthly donation, there is a simple way to do this online at www.habitatmetrodenver.org. Follow the links to donate financially and under Gift Information – Special Designation, enter Loaves & Fishes Coalition. In this way your donation will be credited to our coalition. Our build will start sometime in the first part of November; when we know the exact date that information will be announced. Thanks for your assistance! Contact Barb Phillip with questions, [email protected].

CABINET IN THE COMMUNITY

The 2017 UPark mission trip to Guatemala will be in June or July 2017, so weather conditions will differ from our four previous trips. This will be a medical mission with Salud y Paz (www.saludypaz.org). Besides medical professionals, we welcome any non-medical professionals who have a heart for mission and serving others. We always need “stuff.” A collection container is in the church foyer to accept the following items: stickers (smiles are good) clipboards pens/pencils crayons Sharpies travel soaps, shampoos, lotions Christian-themed color books sidewalk chalk reading glasses brown paper lunch bags clean empty medicine bottles (labels removed easily) Financial contributions to the medicine account is appreciated. We purchase our medicines through Salud y Paz. To join the 2017 Mission Trip, please let us know. We would enjoy having younger missioners with us: DU, college-aged, or high school with a parent or guardian. Contact the Team Leader, George Gramer: 303-945-1728 or [email protected]

Our league is co-ed, and anyone who is older than age 15 or is turning 15 this year can play on our teams. We have two teams: Fire and Ice. We play against other area churches every Sunday during the summer at Progress Park, which is near W. Belleview and S. Broadway. If you have questions or to express your interest in playing, please contact or see Larry Roggensack (303-368-8898) or Rob Eulenstein (303-220-0192). Below is the schedule for today and next week for both teams. July 17: 1:15pm-Ice vs. St. Luke’s 2:45: Ice vs. Hope 5:45pm Fire vs. Bethany July 24: 2:45pm-Ice vs. St. Luke’s 4:15pm-Fire vs. Mosaic 5:45 Fire vs. Hope

The Rocky Mountain Conference Mission U will take place July 21-23 at St. Andrew’s UMC in Highlands Ranch. Mission U is an opportunity for worship, fellowship and study of the global mission of the Methodist Church and the responsibilities of Christians within it. Study topics include Social, Spiritual and Geographic issues. This year the primary study topic is Climate Justice - Call to Hope and Action - This study is designed to deepen your understanding and awareness of climate change and its impact on God’s creation. It will offer us biblical, theological, and ethical insights as a basis of our advocacy on climate justice in churches and in the public sphere. Additional topics include SPIRITUAL STUDY: The Bible and Human Sexuality: Claiming God’s Good Gift – We are invited to explore the complexity of the biblical text and our varied understandings of it in the light of human sexuality.

GEOGRAPHIC STUDY: Latin America – This is an invitation to enter Latin America and know it as a sacred land. We will learn about the historical process of colonization, the life and cultures of the pre-Colombian civilizations, including the Aztecs, Mayans, Incas and Tupi- Guarani.

SOCIAL ISSUE STUDY: The Church and People with Disabilities: Awareness, Accessibility and Advocacy - This study is meant to touch the reader’s heart as well as inform and prompt the reader to action.

For more information, ask Dorothy Musil or Susan Livingston (720-480-8762). Sign-up information is on the UMW bulletin board in the lobby, or go to the website at http://www.rmcumc.org/mission_u
