Next Generation Internet Exchange (NGIX)

The University of Maryland provides one of the three Next Generation Internet Exchanges (NGIX) for the federal research networks. This exchange connects the national research labs in the Greater Washington region to the University of Maryland over direct fiber-optic links-- enabling joint research and development partnerships.

The Office of Information Technology is an active participant in the Chinese-American Networking Symposium (CANS). OIT representatives collaborate annually with networking experts from China and the United States to discuss new ideas in networking technology.
