The Nitrogen Cycle By: Hayleigh Hall Brianna Sheckells Goal: We want you to learn more about the Nitrogen cycle and the important role it plays in ecosystems. Slide 2 Definition: Nitrogen is another element important to life that cycles through earth. Remember: Matter changes in an ecosystem but never leaves. Slide 3 Notes: Almost four fifths of the air you breathe is clear colorless, nitrogen gas. We use nitrogen to make DNA. You cannot get the nitrogen you need to live from air. All animals must get nitrogen from plants. Plants cannot use pure nitrogen gas either. A greater source of nitrogen gas is nitrogen fixing bacteria in the soil near roots of plants. Slide 4 Why Its Important: It is important because plants take in the nitrogen compounds in their roots. Animals get nitrogen from eating plants. Slide 5 Assignment: Read pages 483-484 to learn more about the nitrogen cycle. Once you are done reading, write at least 5 facts about the nitrogen cycle.
