Open Up! Call me strange, but I like to dig into the original meanings and reasons

behind titles. For example, the word “worry” originates from an old English word meaning “to strangle.” Isn’t that what worry does to us?

So this month is April. Curiously, it is a Latin word meaning “to open up.”

That’s what we do, come this time of year. We open up our windows as the weather becomes warmer. We open up our garages and clean out that which

has piled up the last five months on the floor. April even seems to open up

our attitudes and lightens our emotions as we see green springing to life from beneath the brown ground.

I love that this year we celebrate Christ’s resurrection (Easter Sunday) on the

first weekend of the “open up” month. It is that wonderful celebration where God not only opened up the tomb of Christ, showing once and for all that

we’re forgiven, but he opened up a once closed relationship with Him. Jesus gave his life so that we could have a direct, personal relationship with the God

of the Universe!

So we celebrate April and the beautiful gift of life that Jesus opened up for us.

See ya Sunday!

PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION 5

New Addition! The Question Corner.

Have a question about Faith, life, or our church?

Send them in to Lisa at

[email protected] and your question will be

answered by one of the pastors, and may be featured in an upcoming newsletter edition! We are starting this new

segment with a question that we have been hearing a lot

during this time of year.

“Why isn’t Easter on the same day every year?”

Easter is calculated based on the timing of Passover. We

know from the New Testament that Jesus' death and resurrection happened around the time of the Jewish feast

of Passover. According to Matthew, Mark and Luke's Gospels, the last meal Jesus shared with his disciples was a

Passover meal. At the time of Jesus, the Jewish Passover was set based on the first full moon of spring. Since the

full moon’s schedule changed, so did the Passover meal,

thus so does our celebration of Easter.

Life Changes Pastor Todd has asked the staff

to include "life-change" stories in our monthly reports as a way of

sharing the things God is doing

here. Below are two examples:

Story #1 - One member shared with me how her

husband is dealing with the failing health of his mother

who is in hospice and near death. He took the initiative to call a pastor, get his mother a prayer shawl, and

gather the family together for prayer. He has joined a small group recently for the first time, and she states, "I

was filled with pride at how my husband stepped up into

that Christian leadership role. I don't think he would have done that a year ago. I believe with all my heart

that it is a testament to our small group and our time spent with people who yearn for God's clarity."

Story #2 - We have an active member who will be

celebrating 20 years of sobriety this week. God has worked in his life in so many ways. He used to not

attend Trinity…only his wife did. He recalls a time years ago when his wife was sick and someone from church

brought his family a meal. He could not comprehend

why someone would do that. He was far from God. Reluctantly, he began attending church. Life threw

some curve balls, and he started asking questions. I don’t when he decided to believe God is who He says He

is or what exactly changed his heart…or when that

happened, but now he’s the one drawing other men into service activities and fellowship activities in this church.

He leads worship. He organizes the man trips. He’s in a small group. He attends worship every week. He’s a

faithful servant for We Do Feet. He cooks for huge

Trinity family events. He pours concrete floors for the Family Center and the Academy. He reads his Bible and

he prays, and he credits God for his many blessings.

Cheri

What is CONNECT class? It is a 90 minute class on two consecutive Tuesdays in which you will learn more about

the mission and vision of Trinity, the staff and programs, Trinity’s faith statement and beliefs about baptism and

communion, your own spiritual gifts, and volunteer

opportunities. These classes will also help you get to know others in the group. Please let us know if you will

need childcare during your CONNECT class times.

New Member Classes Tuesday, April 21—Family Center 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Tuesday, April 28—Downtown Campus 6:30-8:00 p.m. Childcare available!

New Member Sunday is May 3rd!

To attend the CONNECT class or if you have questions, please contact:

Cheri Buelow - Connections Coordinator

[email protected]

New Member Class Benefits What are the benefits of attending new member classes?

A new member class identifies the uniqueness of the

church.

It shows that membership is highly valued, and not

casual.

It answers questions and concerns in a healthy way.

It provides the leadership with a way to interact with

prospective new members in a relaxed environment.

It gets people on the same page with vision and

mission, direction and purpose.

It enables those who attend to meet and get to know

others in the church.

Trinity Youth Update Proverbs 22:6 “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will

not turn from it.” (NIV)

Greetings! As I write this, I am imagining that we will all be enjoying some warmer weather by the time you read this. But it is Wisconsin and Minnesota ~

anything can happen.

This month I’d like to give you an overview of the youth program. Depending on your stage of life, some of you watch the happenings and goings on of the youth

program at Trinity, while others likely skip over that part of the newsletter or bulletin. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about what happens during

our youth program each Wednesday evening. That way if you know a tween or teen, you can ask them about their

experience and connect with them in a new way. Regardless of who you are within our congregation, the best way to continue the family legacy of Trinity is to connect young and old throughout our congregation in order to build relationships.

The youth program, called “The Cross”, includes both middle school and high school students throughout our congregation.

Three out of four Wednesday evenings start with about 30 minutes of fellowship, which usually includes playing ball for some of the guys in the gym and snacks and other games in the youth room as everyone arrives. (If you haven’t been

down to see how great our new youth space is, check it out!)

Then we all spend about an hour in large group. Large group includes worship and formal lessons/teaching by Jack Jorgenson, Interim Youth Pastor. We have some amazing adults who have been mentoring our youth worship band this

year and Jack always has a great, challenging message to share with the youth and adult leaders. Our recent large group teachings have focused on Godly speech, Godly conduct, Godly love, Godly faith, and Godly purity.

We complete the program in small groups for about 45 minutes. Middle school youth are separated by age and gender

throughout the Trinity Academy rooms, while the high school youth gather together in the youth room. Our focus for reading and teaching in small group has been the Gospel of John.

Once a month we bus the kids to a fun outing in the area. They have had fun to Skyzone, Funzone, Badlands Snow-tubing,

and a corn maze earlier this year. Last year we ended the year with a service outing to Feed My Starving Children in Eagan. These outings provide the youth an opportunity to fellowship more, and include some of their school friends who might not

otherwise be exposed to youth group.

Thank you in advance for connecting with youth in our congregation. They are the future of the Church.

SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE Removing the clutter of the past so you can live toward

the future - New sermon series 4/12 - 4/26.

Overview: During the long winter, our homes, cars and garages accumulate the clutter of the season’s dirt and

grit. When winter is done, spring is a perfect time to do a deep cleaning. What if we applied the same time and

elbow grease to our relationships as we did our homes?

In this series, we explore what it means to remove clutter in our relationships and move toward loving each

other as Christ loved us.

7 FOUNDATIONAL FAITH

Bible 101 Is the Bible confusing to you? Wondering who all those people are that the pastor talks about in his sermons? Trying to

figure out how all those Bible stories fit together?

Join us for Bible 101 on Thursdays, April 9 through May 28, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm at the Downtown campus.

Over the course of eight weeks, Pastor Tim will lead this group on a journey through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

As a result of this class, students will be able to:

Describe the basic outline of the Biblical story

Identify key characters and events in the Bible

Understand key themes in the Bible

Explain what God's purpose has been in the history of the world

Point to where God has been involved in their own story

Engage with God in a daily quiet time of Bible reflection and prayer

Participate with confidence in future Bible studies and small groups

Apply what they have learned in loving service to family, community, church and the world.

RELATIONAL CONNECTION 8

Staff Person of the Month Each month in the Trinity newsletter we highlight a staff member. This is a great way for the

congregation to get to know us a little better. This month we are highlighting staff member Kris Newman.

1) Give a brief description of your position at Trinity. I am the daycare chef at the Family Center. I serve breakfast, lunch and two snacks.

2) What did you do before coming to Trinity? I was a catering manager at a university for over sixteen years.

3) What are the joys of your position/job?

Seeing the kids eat my food and telling me they ate all of it. 4) What positives do you see about the total Trinity Ministry?

Everyone is friendly and inviting. 5) How do you see God working here at Trinity?

Through the eyes of the children.

Goliath Challenge 2015 A new “challenge” for the Goliath Challenge this year! Not only will the event include new obstacles, additional

mud, and more participants…but the race will be just the beginning to an even BIGGER event to follow.

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) will STILL be the significant donor for the race event. This God-lead organization continues to do great things for His cherished children. The Goliath Challenge will support their effort

to an even greater extent by jump starting the first annual Hudson Area Goliath MobilePack. This year the race will not only raise money for a significant donation to FMSC,

but will be the stepping stone to actually packing meals right here in the Hudson Community.

Here is how it works: MobilePack is a program where FMSC comes directly to events that are willing to host meal packing sessions. This isn’t something new for FMSC. In 2013, more than 208,000 MobilePack volunteers

packed over 50 million meals, with 206 events in over 38 states. Our goal is to raise $44,000 (partly funded by the Goliath

Challenge and by separate fund raising for the MobilePack) which will equate to packing 200,000 meals in a two day event held on October 2 & 3, 2015. This community event will invite anyone who wants to make a difference in the life of a

starving child. A website will be set up for volunteers to register for two hour meal packing sessions where you can be part of potentially packing up to 30,000 meals, enough to feed 90 kids for a year. What an impact for giving a short amount of

your time!

Sign up for the race, and mark your calendar for the mobile pack. God is doing great things here in Hudson so we can be His hands and feet throughout the world!

MISSIONAL MOMENTUM 9

Stewardship Committee Notes “Return to me so I can return to you,“ says the God-of-the- Angel-Armies. “You ask, ‘But how do we return?’ Begin by being honest. Do honest people rob God? But you rob me day after day. You ask, ‘How have we robbed you?’ The tithe and the offering – that’s how! And now you’re under a curse – the whole lot of you – because you’re robbing me. Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. Test me and see if I don’t open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessing beyond your wildest dreams.” Malachi 3:7-10 (The Message, The Bible in Contemporary Language, Eugene Peterson.)

Many years before Jesus lived on earth, the Nation of Israel had been restored to their homeland from exile and their

temple had been rebuilt, but they were not enjoying prosperity. Drought, famine, diseased crops and suffering was occurring on a national scale. The people and their spiritual leaders had forgotten God and were not relying on Him.

Malachi was pointing out why they were under such hardship. One of the many ways they were dishonoring God was

by failing to give their tithes and offerings.

Even today, God wants us to ‘return to Him, so he can return to us’. He has given himself in Jesus Christ, and we

cannot give Him anything by comparison to that. But we can offer up ourselves to Him more completely, including

from our financial prosperity. Don’t let any spiritual apathy or indifference keep you from ‘coming back’ to Him with this step of faith and obedience! God does not need your money – He wants you! He invites us to come to Him, in

faith, with our giving. He will bless us when we do. Try it! Test Him! See what happens!

Board of Directors’ Update In February, key topics at the Board of Directors’ meeting were capital improvement

needs for our facilities, and our Youth Ministry leadership.

We were joined by the head of the Trinity Property Board, Todd Erickson, who explained the capital improvements schedule that his team has developed. We are

reaching a point in the life of our facilities where maintenance and replacement needs are growing - particularly as the Family Center is now 13 years old. At the top of the list are the 19 roof-top HVAC units

at both sites, which provide us with heat and cooling. Two failing units Downtown were replaced this Winter. Another 14

units are 13 years old or older, with a stated life expectancy of 15 years. Treasurer Tom Malchow, will try to build room in the budget for replacement of at least a couple of units each year at a cost of $13,000 per pair.

On a positive note, we heard that our boiler Downtown remains in good working order despite its age of 40+ years.

Praise the Lord! A water softener will be installed soon to help keep it running as well as possible for as long as possible.

The Board also discussed the tremendous job that Jack Jorgensen and Carol Smith have done in leading our Youth

Ministry on an interim basis this school year. On Pastor Todd Stocker’s recommendation, the Board decided to ask Jack

and Carol to lead our Youth Ministry for one more school year as a bridge to a long-term staff plan that Pastor Todd is developing with the assistance of the Board of Deacons. That plan may include leadership from a Director of Christian

Education.

We Do Feet On February 7th, many volunteers celebrated another awesome year of serving the community with their annual

“Thank You” breakfast for We Do Feet. The number of people needing help grows every year, and this committed group of people continues to pick up and deliver donated furniture to those who need it. From beds and bedding,

couches, tables and chairs, to lamps and baby changing tables, there are so many people who simply don’t have the

money to purchase these items, and We Do Feet is a real life-saving ministry for them. Aside from always needing more people to help with the furniture side of the ministry, monetary donations are also needed to help purchase gas

for the vehicles, as well as for the purchase of the Bibles, which are given to everyone who picks up furniture. The money is also spent on purchasing pillows and bedding for the beds. If you wish to help with any of these things,

please contact Barb at 715-781-0622.

GLOBAL COMPASSION 10

Our Greater Church is All Over! Sometimes we forget that the world is our mission field. How in the world are we supposed to reach out across

the water with the Gospel of Jesus? That’s the beauty of being a part of a larger church body called “The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.” Worldwide, our larger church body reaches people in more than 100 regions. We have

a mission presence in places like India, Gambia and Sierra Leonne and Laos! We have missionaries serving in

places like Uganda and Mongolia.

Your mission dollars not only serve the greater Hudson and Twin Cities communities, but also around the world! If

you’d like to know more, go to www.LCMS.org or to give to our mission efforts, go to www.TrinityHudson.org.
