T h e N ews Volume 47 Number 1 | First Presbyterian Church | January 2015 [ Sue’s Musings ] My musings are pretty brief this time, as is our newsletter. Mostly I’m musing about how much I love advent, and how extremely busy it’s been! Lots of good stuff happened in Advent, but it was busy nonetheless – busier than usual. As we look toward January and a new year, we have a month that is blessedly “normal.” Children’s Wednesday programming, the Spiritual Life Class, youth groups, choir practices, committee meetings, all go back to their regular routine in January. For all of us who have been overly involved in all the special events in December, we say “Whew! What a ride it was! Can I get off now?” I think a lot of us are ready for a return to “normal.” You’ll notice that in this newsletter, as I sat down to see what needs to go in, I looked at the calendar and realized January was giving all of us a much needed chance to catch our breath. The life of the church will go on, youth groups CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES- Wednesday, Dec. 24th - Sanctuary 5:00p Family Christmas Eve Candlelight Service 9:00p Christmas Eve Candlelight & Communion Service Side - by - Side: January Reading Schedule Thursday, Jan. 1 - NO SCHOOL Friday, Jan. 2 - NO SCHOOL Monday, Jan. 5 - Shirley Howard Tuesday, Jan. 6 - Bev Zizumbo Wednesday, Jan. - 7 Bette Timmel Thursday, Jan. 8 - Pat Gruver Friday, Jan. 9 - Roger Morrison Monday, Jan. 12 - Heather Smith Tuesday, Jan. 13 - Mary Exline Wednesday, Jan. 14 - Betty Garrison Thursday, Jan. 15 - Betty Norman Friday, Jan. 16 - Brigid Hall Monday, Jan. 19 - NO SCHOOL Tuesday, Jan. 20 - Bev Zizumbo Wednesday, Jan. 21 - Bette Timmel Thursday, Jan. 22 - Liz Carroll Friday, Jan. 23 - Roger Morrison Monday, Jan. 26 - Heather Smith Tuesday, Jan. 27 - Mary Exline Wednesday, Jan. 28 - Maxine Strawn Thursday, Jan. 29 - Betty Norman Friday, Jan. 30 - Sydney Soderberg will meet, children will laugh, adults will grow in faith together, worship will glorify God, but we can go about all that without any pressure to outdo anyone else, or to be busy for the sake of being busy. So rather than find a bunch of stuff to cram into the newsletter so we could say “hey – look at all we’re doing!” and running each other ragged, we’re going with the minimalist approach – and giving you the basics of what’s coming up, and then we’ll leave it at that. Maybe that’s not such a bad way to enter the new year – focus on what is important, and let the rest go. Don’t burn yourself out trying to do too much.
