There is a mousetrap in the house!” The pig sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.” The mouse turned to the cow and said, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.” So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mouse- trap alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house – like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer’s wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient. But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer’s wife did not get well; she died. The mouse trap - Author Unknown

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. “What food might this contain?” the mouse wondered. He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning: “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.”

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The pig sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.”

The mouse turned to the cow and said, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.”

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mouse-trap alone.

So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: Acts 5:12a, 17-22, 25-29

In this reading from the story of the first Christians we are told how, the apostles are

freed from prison and boldly continue to teach about the new Christian life

PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: 111

This psalm is an outpouring of praise for the majesty and graciousness of the Lord who

redeems the people of God.

SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: Revelation 1: (1-8) 9-19

The reading is the beginning of the Revelation made known to a disciple named John: a

series of visions which opens with an appearance of the risen and resplendent Lord.

THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: John 20:19-31

Our Gospel presents two appearances of the risen Lord to his disciples. The first takes

place on the very evening of the day of his resurrection. The disciples are gathered in

fear, but Jesus brings them peace, gives them their mission and bestows on them the Holy

Spirit. A week later, Thomas, who had been absent when Jesus first appeared and who

doubted his resurrection, now knows Jesus by his wounds and worships him as his Lord

and God. Future disciples will not have Jesus’ physical presence, but they will be blessed

in their belief.

FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: FIRST LESSON: Acts 5:12a, 17-22, 25-29

Now many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and filled with jealousy they arrested the apostles and put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out and said, "Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life." And when they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak and taught. Now the high priest came and those who were with him and called together the council and all the senate of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought. But when the officers came, they did not find them in the prison, and they returned and reported. And someone came and told them, "The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people." Then the captain with the officers went and brought them, but without violence, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people. And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, saying, "We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us." But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men.

PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: 111

1. I WILL give thanks unto the Lord with my whole heart : secretly among the faithful, and in the congregation. 2. The works of the Lord are great : sought out of all of them that have pleasure therein. 3. His work is worthy to be praised and had in honour : and his righteousness endureth for ever. 4. The merciful and gracious Lord hath so done his marvellous works : that they ought to be had in remembrance. 5. He hath given meat unto them that fear him : he shall ever be mindful of his covenant. 6. He hath shewed his people the power of his works : that he may give them the heritage of the heathen. 7. The works of his hands are verity and judgement : all his commandments are true. 8. They stand fast for ever and ever : and are done in truth and equity. 9. He sent redemption unto his people : he hath commanded his covenant for ever; holy and reverend is his Name. 10. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom : a good understanding have all they that do thereafter; the praise of it endureth for ever.

SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: Revelation 1: (1-8) 9-19

[The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants what must soon take place; and he made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. Blessed is he who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written therein; for the time is near. John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, every one who pierced him; and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.] I John, your brother, who share with you in Jesus the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient

Bidding Prayer

In the power of the Spirit, let us pray for the grace to do the works of faith.

Grant to the Church, the gathered people of the gospel, wisdom to know and power to proclaim the good news of the Resurrection…Make her ministers strong in the Holy Spirit to bring pardon and healing in the name of Christ.

We pray for a world where many wish to believe but are held back by doubt…Open the way to the freedom that is Christ, that his peace may prevail among the nations and in the hearts of all people.

Grant to us, our families, friends and neighbours, the grace of the resurrection…Break through the closed doors of our fear and doubt and give us the faith that needs no sign but the knowledge of divine love present among us.

endurance, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, "Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea." Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast; his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters; in his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth issued a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand upon me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one; I died, and behold I am alive for ever-more, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Now write what you see, what is and what is to take place hereafter.

THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: John 20:19-31

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe." Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

NOTICES

Have mercy on all who suffer persecution for their faith, who must meet in secret and cannot worship openly…Give them strength in their need, give light to those who oppress them, so that all who trust in the Resurrection may be free to share their joy.

We pray for the departed who trusted their Lord in this world and now see him in the full-ness of his glory…May their sins be forgiven and may we who now follow in faith share with them the promised blessing.

We pray in the name of Christ, by whose wounds we are healed. Amen.

Dedication Prayer (To be said after the Post Communion Prayer)

Lord, be with us this day and throughout the week; Within us to purify us; Above us to draw us up; Before us to lead us; Behind us to restrain us; Around us to protect us. Amen.
