QCHP-AD: CPD System in summary
The QCHP-AD is responsible for the development of a comprehensive CPDSystem.
3 components of the CPD System:
1. CPD Program (framework and credit system) for all HealthcarePractitioners.
2. A CPD Accreditation System:
For CPD provider organizations
For individual CPD activities
3. CPD ePortfolio (in development).
CPD Accreditation System is a hybrid model offering accreditationopportunities at individual CPD activities and eligible CPD providerorganizations.

CPD Framework Common Issues or Questions
1. Documenting reading activities.
Journals, books or monographs can be documented individually in theePortfolio.
A transcript of reading provided by a 3rd party can be uploaded.
2. Preparation for formal teaching activities.
Key idea: NOT the total time spent preparing for teaching but the
portion of time where you learned something new from preparationfor teaching.
3. Does participation in international CPD activities count?
Yes if the activity has been approved by international CPD accreditationsystems or developed by a ‘recognized professional body’ as defined bythe QCHP-AD.

4. How will I know if a local or national group / assessment activity isaccredited?
The following accreditation statement will be on the materials orcertificate of attendance.
“This activity is an Accredited [name of category] as defined by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners - Accreditation Department
and is approved for a maximum of xx hours.”
5. Do on-line modules count (e.g. BMJ modules) and if so in whatcategory?
Absolutely these modules count under Category 2: Completing self-learning modules.

QCHP-AD: CPD Cycle Requirements
CPD Cycle Duration: 2 years CPD cycle start date will be individualized to align with date of licensure.
CPD Cycle Requirements (minimums and not maximums) Annual CPD requirement 40 credits each year.
CPD cycle requirement 80 credits over two years.
Category-specific requirements 40 credits in Category 1 and
40 credits across Category 2 and/or Category 3, in any combination.
The first CPD cycle:
Duration will be based on the difference between the launch date of the CPDsystem and HCP’s licensure renewal date.
Credit requirements / expectations will vary based on CPD cycle duration

HCP’s current license to practice in Qatar will be renewed onNovember 30, 2016.
The CPD program launches on March 7, 2016.
HCP’s first CPD cycle duration will be from March 7 to November29, 2016 (8 months and 3 weeks)
Therefore the credit expectations for this cycle are:
Total CPD cycle requirement: 20 Credits
Category specific requirements: None Required
The annual CPD requirement: Not Applicable as (cycleduration is < 1 year)

Selection of CPD Activities
System1. Healthcare practitioners should select their CPD activities
on the basis of:
Their scope of practice and the context of the needs of theirorganization: CPD activities should be relevant and applicable to whathealthcare practitioners do.
The learning needs of the individual practitioner.
Their personal learning preferences.
The needs of patients.
2. Lifelong learning must result in meaningful andmeasureable outcomes for practice.

How will compliance be monitored?
Healthcare practitioners who fail to meet the minimal annualrequirement of 40 credits will be: Notified at the end of the first year of non-adherence.
Provided with information on how to seek assistance.
Required to provide evidence of participation through a validation program inthe remaining year of their cycle.
Healthcare practitioners who have not met the minimumrequirement of 80 credits by the end of their CPD cycle will besubject to having their registration and licensure in the State ofQatar terminated for non-compliance (with opportunity to appeal).

The Credit Validation Program
The QCHP-AD has established a CPD audit process called“credit validation” for healthcare practitioners.
It is a process that reviews the documentation/validationestablished for all learning activities included in the CPDframework and self-reported in the portfolio.
Each year, a random sample of 3-5% of healthcarepractitioners are selected to participate in the creditvalidation program.

Documentation of CPD Activities
Every healthcare practitioner is required to maintain anindividual CPD activity record, which will constitute his/herCPD ePortfolio: Record details of completed learning activities.
Record reflections on learning for practice.
Upload the documentation as defined by the CPD Framework-where applicable.
A CPD portfolio will also include a planning section – tostate the individual learning needs identified.

Developing a Learning Plan
System
The development of a Learning Plan (or professionaldevelopment Plan) will enable healthcare practitioners to:
Identify their personal learning needs.
Develop specific learning goals based on the identified needs.
Select relevant learning activities to accomplish the learninggoals.
Demonstrate how the outcomes achieved from the learningactivities they selected allowed them to improve theirprofessional practice.
Setting a learning plan will enable HCPs to select activities from theCPD framework and credit system that are applicable to their practice.
