FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners. This is my Body.... This is my Blood. Today the Church solemnly commemorates the institution of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). This is the Church’s official act of homage and gratitude to our Lord, who by instituting the Holy Eucharist gave to the Church her greatest treasure: Himself. Corpus Christi was introduced in the 13th century by Pope Urban IV in 1264 when he issued a papal bull, this feast for the Universal Church. This same pope requested St. Thomas Aquinas to compose the prayers for today’s Mass and Liturgy of the Hours – a real work of genius. The famous Abbot Cabrol described these prayers as ―one of the most beautiful canticles in Catholic liturgy.‖ Pius Parsch wrote in his book, The Church’s Year of Grace, that St. Thomas’s work was ―unquestionably a classic piece of liturgical work, wholly in accord with the best liturgical traditions… It is a perfect work of art.‖ St. Thomas’ Corpus Christi liturgy includes the magnificent sequence Laude Sion; the vesper hymn Pange Lingua (concluding with the Tantum Ergo sung during Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament); the matins hymn Sacris Solemnis (concluding with Panis Angelicus); and the lauds hymn Verbum Supernum Prodiens (concluding with another Benediction song, O Salutaris Hostia). (Cf. Warren H. Carroll, The Eucharistic Devotion of St. Thomas Aquinas) In the words of St. Thomas: ―How inestimable a dignity, beloved brethren, divine bounty has bestowed upon us Christians from the treasury of its infinite goodness! For there neither is nor ever has been a people to whom the gods were so near as our Lord and God is near unto us.‖ ―Desirous that we be made partakers of His divinity, the only-begotten Son of God has taken to Himself our nature so that having become man, He would be enabled to make men gods. Whatever He assumed of our nature He wrought unto our salvation. For on the altar of the Cross He immolated to the Father His own Body as victim for our reconciliation and shed His blood both for our ransom and for our regeneration. Moreover, in order that a remembrance of so great benefits may always be with us, He has left us His Body as food and His Blood as drink under appearances of bread and wine.‖ ―O banquet most precious! O banquet most admirable! O banquet overflowing with every spiritual delicacy! Can anything be more excellent than this repast, in which not the flesh of goats and heifers, as of old, but Christ the true God is given us for nourishment? What more wondrous than this holy sacrament! In it bread and wine are changed substantially, and under the appearance of a little bread and wine is had Christ Jesus, God and perfect Man. In this sacrament sins are purged away, virtues are increased; the soul is satiated with an abundance of every spiritual gift. No other sacrament is so beneficial. Since it was instituted unto the salvation of all, it is offered by Holy Church for the living and for the dead, that all may share in its treasures.‖ ―My dearly beloved, is it not beyond human power to express the ineffable delicacy of this sacrament in which spiritual sweetness is tasted in its very source, in which is brought to mind the remembrance of that all-excelling charity which Christ showed in His sacred passion? Surely it was to impress more profoundly upon the hearts of the faithful the immensity of this charity that our loving Savior instituted this sacrament at the last supper when, having celebrated the Pasch with His disciples, He was about to leave the world and return to the Father. It was to serve as an unending remembrance of His passion, as the fulfillment of ancient types — this the greatest of His miracles. To those who sorrow over His departure He has given a unique solace.‖ May our Blessed Mother, Woman of the Eucharist, increase our devotion to Jesus present in the Eucharist. May God bless you all! Mr. Juan Carlos Pallarols is a world-renowned Argentinian silversmith, who will be present among us July 11-13, 2014.

Everyone is invited.

During his stay all of you are invited to hammer your chisel mark onto a special hand-crafted chalice which will be offered as a gift to his Holiness Pope Francis. At the

same time you will have the opportunity to write a brief message or prayer to the Holy Father which along with the chalice will be personally delivered by the artist at Vatican City.

Since the 19th century the Pallarols family has made chalices for different Popes. Mr. Juan Carlos Pallarols has worked at the time of the Second Vatican Council making a chalice for the recently canonized for Pope John XXIII, Pope Paul VI, Saint John Paul II and now for Pope Francis.

“It is a tradition in my family to make chalices for the

Popes but I try to ensure that everyone can participate in their own special way. This chalice has traveled half way round the world. And these indents of the chalice have been made by more than 5 millions people who wanted to participate.”

Now is our opportunity! ————————————————————————

A Family of Silversmiths It all started in the year 1735, with Vicente Pallarols in Catalonia, Spain. In the early nineteenth century, Rafael Pallarols –Vicente’s son–, along with other notable silversmith masters travelled to the land of silver (Argentina). He was later followed by his son, Vicente Pallarols II (1830-1904), during the great silver boom. In turn, the son of the later, Jose (1879-1951) and his grandson Carlos received the secrets in the art of silversmith which they transmitted to Juan Carlos –sixth generation of silversmiths– Mr. Juan Carlos Pallarols was born in Banfield, Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 2, 1942. From an early age and almost as if playing he began to learn that which would be his vocation and profession for life. In fact, from his father and grandfather Jose, who were excellent goldsmiths, designers and painters, he learned to uphold the value of an exquisite good taste, attention to detail, the obsession for perfection and the equilibrium in the forms. And from then on almost nothing has changed. Mr. Juan Carlos Pallarol still uses the workshop tools and techniques carefully preserved by the family for over two hundred years. Good taste and the search for refinement and excellence have been hallmark of the Pallarols for centuries.
