The Model T Ford Club International’s 60th annual tour July 17-22, 2016 New York’s Fingerlakes ARea 5 MODEL T TIMES, JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2016 JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2016, MODEL T TIMES 4 Come enjoy the beauty of four of the Finger Lakes, plus a visit to one of the Great Lakes. If you would like to relive days gone by when people took leisurely rides through the coun- try, then this is the tour for you! You will tour miles and miles of beautiful rolling farmlands and a number of lakes. Routes will consist of back roads with no main highways or cities. This tour should be a quiet relaxing drive for you and your Model T! Sunday Our first day will begin with the Car Show at 11:00 a.m. at Emerson Park on Owas- co Lake, followed by a delicious chicken barbecue at noon. In the afternoon there will be a tour on your own to get to know the Auburn area. Interesting stops will include the Seward House, Willard Chapel, Apple Station Winery, Case Museum, and Harriet Tubman Home. In the evening, we will enjoy a dessert celebration in honor of the 60th Annual MTFCI Tour and hear special tour announcements. Monday The first full day of touring will take us to the town of Seneca Falls, known as the “Historic Gateway to the Finger Lakes”. We will be welcomed at The Wonderful Life Museum by Karolyn Grimes (“Zuzu” in the movie It’s a Wonderful Life). Our 60th Annual Tour will be the kick-off of the 70th anniversary of the It’s a Wonderful Life film at the museum. Other attractions include Women’s Rights National Historic Park, National Women’s Hall of Fame, The Seneca Museum of Waterways and Industry, and many other interesting shops. Leaving Seneca Falls we will head to Rose Hill Mansion, then on to Three Brothers Winery complex to enjoy a catered lunch. We will drive along Seneca and Cayuga Lakes and stop at Toro Run Winery for spectacular views of Cayuga Lake. Optional/on your own: Sampson Military Museum at Sampson State Park. Tuesday Our first stop on Tuesday will be a private car collection that specializes in police cars. We will then visit the Mackenzie Childs showroom with their unique tableware, home furnishings, and gifts. It is so unique that everyone enjoys the visit! There is also a gorgeous restored farmhouse on site that is furnished by Mackenzie Childs - so unusual it’s a must see! You can also enjoy a walk around the very scenic grounds, with views of Cayuga Lake. Our box lunch stop will be at Long Point State Park on beautiful Cayuga Lake. Then we’ll visit the Rural Life Museum & Genoa Historical Association, and the One Room Schoolhouse. Next, we’ll travel on to one of our favorites places: Ward O’Hara Agricultural Museum, which has many unusual displays. The annual vintage clothing fashion show will be held in the evening at the host hotel. Wednesday On Wednesday we will visit the Town of Weedsport, stopping to see the Old Brutus Historical Society, antique shops, and the Dirt Motorsports Speedway Museum and Racetrack. Scenic driving will include views of Lake Ontario, Fair Haven State Park, and West Barrier Bar - a beautiful area for our box lunch by the shores of Lake Ontario. We’ll visit the Village of Fair Haven (a few small shops), view a private collection where you will be able to see a very early 1913 Model T Touring, 1925 Model T Coupe, 1941 Ford Business Coupe, 1965 Hi-Po Mustang - every one of them in all-original condition - and many other Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln automobiles. Thursday On Thursday we will travel to Palmyra, NY, driving along the Erie Canal and over many one-lane Model T-era steel bridges. There will be an optional stop at Finger Lakes Steamers (small scale ride-on trains). Our box lunch stop will be at the Palmyra-Macedon Aqueduct Park. We will visit the Town of Palmyra which is located on the Erie Canal. You will also explore William Phelps General Store Museum, which has remained intact with original merchandise on the main floor of the store and original Phelps Family furnishings and artifacts in their home on the upper floors. It’s as it was when closed at the start of World War II. We’ll also visit Alling Coverlet Museum, Print Shop Museum, and Palmyra Historical Museum. There are many nice shops, including antique shops, to visit. There will be an optional stop at Waterloo Premium Outlet Mall. The Youth Auction will be held at the host hotel later that evening. Friday This will be our shortest driving day. We will drive around beautiful Skaneateles Lake and climb a challenging hill, with optional directions for those that don’t feel they’re up for the climb. We will end the day’s tour with an enjoyable visit to the town of Skaneateles where you can shop, sit by the water, take a boat ride, or just take a leisurely stroll on the pier. Lunch will be on your own today. Car show and tour awards will be presented at the closing banquet held at the host hotel that evening.
