PTC Employees Help Marawi Strife Victims PTC’s Human Resources Department organized a donation drive to help aid thousands of families displaced by the ongoing strife in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, Mindanao. Through the contributions of PTC Group employees, an initial donation was made to the Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC) to help provide almost 7,000 Mingo meals for Marawi children. Mingo is an instant nutritious meal made of Rice, Mongo and Moringa (Malunggay) with all-natural ingredients, produced in an FDA-licensed facility operated by NVC.

The meals were distributed across 13 evacuation centers by NVC’s ground volunteers and partners on the ground from Rise Against Hunger, De La Salle Academy of Iligan, SIRAJ-MRO Xavier University Students and Teach Peace Build Peace Movement, Southern Philippines Muslim and Non-Muslim Unity Development Association, with the DSWD and DOH as partners in Lanao and Cagayan de Oro.

Other beneficiaries included children participating in psycho-social activities conducted by the Amai Pakpak Emergency Response Team at the Toril Compound and Ma. Cristina evacuation centers; and documented evacuees housed in Cagayan de Oro.

The Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC) Foundation is a Bacolod-based NGO that fights hunger and poverty in the Philippines by providing proper nutrition and access to quality education for children of the poor, as well as sustainable livelihood opportunities for their parents.

In-kind contributions were also collected during the donation drive. On July 26, PTC turned over 75 boxes containing canned goods, bottled water, hygiene products and non-perishable food items to Ms. Rizza Genil, Events and Emergency Giving Officer of the Philippine Red Cross, for the continuing relief efforts being conducted by the Red Cross in Marawi.

A Journey through LifeTo further help PTC Group employees lead and serve with integrity, reflect on their spiritual values and create a more fulfilling workplace, the company’s Human Resources Department organized “A Journey through Life,” a lecture series on the Human Condition delivered by Mrs. Isabelita Salinas last July 13 and 20 at the Legaspi Room of First Maritime Place. The talk, divided into two segments, discussed the different stages of a person’s life and the corresponding instinctual needs and possible inferences that may either help fulfill or hinder the fullness of one’s potential. Mrs. Salinas also urged employees to persevere in finding their giftedness, which is unique to each person, and use it to be a blessing to their family, friends and even co-workers.

WIMAPHIL Celebrates 10th AnniversaryWomen in Maritime Philippines (WIMAPHIL) marked a momentous milestone last July 7, 2017 as it commemorated 10 years of empowering females in the shipping industry with “WIMA@10: WIMAke Change Happen.” The celebration served as a tribute to WIMAPHIL’s tireless efforts in advancing its advocacies, which were made possible through the group’s strong partnerships with the government and the private sector. A non-stock, non-profit organization, WIMAPHIL was established in 2007 in support of the call of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for enhanced participation by women in the maritime industry. Now with five regional chapters across the country, WIMAPHIL boasts of a membership of over 300 women from the sectors of shipping, manning, education & training, seafaring, ports and logistics, as well as wives of seafarers and residents of coastal communities. Its subchapters include the active participation of women from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Philippine Ports Authority and Philippine Coast Guard. WIMAPHIL’s pioneering projects include coastal cleanups, livelihood programs for

coastal communities, and seminars on women’s health issues, prevention of marine pollution, illegal trafficking of women in seaports and awareness on HIV/AIDS.

Responding to the call of the times, WIMAPHIL currently focuses on three banner programs, namely She to Sea (STS), which advocates for women empowerment in the maritime profession; WIMA on Watch (WOW) which promotes safety & security in ships; and the protection of the marine environment. The celebration was marked by a number of activities including a mass and an exhibit at the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies (AIMS). In the evening, a Gala Night was held at the Ramon Magsaysay Center in Manila attended by industry stakeholders and representatives from the government including Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Maritime Affairs Felipe A. Judan and MARINA Administrator Dr. Marcial Quirico C. Amaro III. In a congratulatory message read by WIMAPHIL Corporate Secretary Atty. Brenda Pimentel, IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim lauded the organization, saying that “WIMAPHIL should be proud of its accomplishments, because just as society as a whole benefits from the full and active participation of women in the work environment, so does the shipping industry. It is safe to say that empowering women fuels thriving economies across the world, spurs growth and development, and benefits all of us working in the global maritime community as we strive for safe, secure, clean and sustainable shipping.”

During the gala night, winners of the Hashtag Making Contest, a competition which aimed to raise awareness on marine environmental protection through social media, were announced. Highlighting the evening was the launch of the She to Sea Female Officer of the Year, a search for the country’s most outstanding female officers and cadets who embody the exceptional characteristics of women in maritime.
