Oh I FEEL so

No, I won`t give up! So you shouldn't either!

I bet we all didn`t expect how difficult it is to juggle be-

tween school, work, 5million extracurriculars, AND Key Club,

did we?? It’s time to use this long weekend and rethink and

plan smarter ways to manage our time! Never lose sight of your

goals and ALWAYS… think in the best interest of the club. With

only 5 months left into our terms, you want to leave your club

better than when you first came into office.

Officers, remember your duties and don’t ignore dead-

lines! Members, keep being active and volunteer whenever

you can! Try new things and smile often. You’re in Key Club be-

cause you want to make a difference, so go out there this holi-

day season and brighten someone’s day!

Finally, I can not stress enough about DUES. DUES. DUES.

Key Club International can only run with the membership fee.

Please do your treasurers a favour and submit in your club dues

so that you can reap all the benefits of an official Key Clubber!

In service and friendship,

Jennifer Zhen

#ELIMIN8 In 34 countries around the world, maternal and neona-

tal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth

into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its

and touch. There is little hope of survival. And tetanus

kills mothers too.

HOLIDAY PROJECTS Participate in a Winter Coat Drive

Participate in a Blanket Drive

Participate in a Toy Drive

Visit a Local Senior Center

(senior citizens may not have a lot of family visiting them on a regular basis, so call and book a date!)

Adopt a Local Family

(Numerous families are going through financial hardships and they could use some help when it comes to providing for their children this Christmas. Contact a local church and find out if there is a particular family who could use help. Some retail and/or grocery stores have names of fam-ilies you can adopt for the holidays)

Art of Giving ***my favourite service project!!

(Visit an elementary school and teach kids that its about giving not receiving during this time of the year. Create crafts, cards, cookies with them and at the end, remind them to give it to someone else! Now doesn`t that feel good!? You`ve taught kids what it means to give.)

Spotlight: 3 Club Reports

In terms of volunteering opportunities, we've provided them with two in the last month. First,

we had the The Wild Things Halloween festival and the Halloween fireworks volunteering. Even

though we offered both of these opportunities, there was only attendance at the second

event.

We've recently started with our service project as well as a fundraiser. As you may already

know, we'll be moving into our new school soon (yay!) so we thought it'd be a good idea to

make a bunch of paper cranes and let people write their favourite memories in the old school

and then we'd hang them from the ceiling. We were thinking of charging $0.50 for them and

accepting donations as well. We haven't decided where the proceeds are going to go yet

but some possibilities are KCCP, Project Educate as well as Project Eliminate. Dee also had an

idea where we could also donate some of our paper cranes to, as an example, a hospital as

a symbol of hope over the Christmas season.

Claremont had two of our annual, rather-large service projects in October. First, on Octo-

ber 7th, we volunteered at the Royal Victoria Marathon, where we teamed up with Oak

Bay and handed out water to all the runners. Secondly, on October 31st we participated in

The Meal Exchange's Trick or Eat, collecting non-perishable food items for a local food

bank, The Mustard Seed. And since it was Halloween, there was also much dressing up

and candy to be had. We had a few smaller scale service projects this month as well: we

kicked of the month with Pizza Sale for cancer research, and because we raised 240$, we

also got to stick funny things (Hello Kitty clips and other pretty things) in our presidents hair.

Lastly, Claremont had a social on October 28th, where we wrote letters to our sponsor

child Gloria, played icebreakers, ate pizza, and brainstormed ideas for the year to come.

Hopefully we can have such a fun month in November!

The month of October gave birth to a new club to Britannia Secondary School--

that is, Britannia’s very own Key Club! Our first meeting was held on October 4,

2012 at 12PM in one of the science department room. Many Bruins (Britannia

students) came to the meeting and we were heavily overwhelmed with so

many members that there were not enough seats left for others to sit down.

Nevertheless, the meeting went very smoothly and everyone was stoked about

what Key Club was about and what we had to offer. During the month of Octo-

ber, Britannia Key Club volunteered for two Britannia Community Centre’s

events. The first event was called, “Sustaining Our World Festival,” held on Oc-

tober 21, where our members got the chance to promote a green environment

in our community. The second event was called, “Halloween Howl” held on

October 27 where we engaged as leaders to initiate activities with kids ages

from 1-8 years old. Before October ended, we raised around $200 for the ELIMI-

NATE project simply by revisiting our childhood as Halloween trick-or-treaters
