I think there are three very heartening things that givestrength or hope to our day.

(First) We are all admitting we need answers. That initself is encouraging for the law shows we need a Saviour.

(Secondly) We are Asking—We are Seeking—We areKnocking. We are looking for answers, as Christians weknow that God comes to us through Word and Sacraments.

(Thirdly) It is only God’s Word that can be trusted tobring us God’s answers when we ask, seek and knock. Forthe wonderful thing is that He is making certain we arereceiving—and that we are finding—and that doors are beingopened to us. Yes—God opens doors daily for each of usthrough His Word. Let us then Ask—Seek—Knock andRejoice. Rejoicing, so in everything, do to others what youwould have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and theProphets.

Therefore then—Rejoice and “Let Your Light Shine”so that “The Saving Gospel in Christ” be proclaimed to allpeople in all nations. “Bringing Christ To the Nations—andthe Nations to the Church.”

Be A Shining Light by Pastor Mark EichlerI don’t think the Pastor meant to say it the way it came out, but

he referred to a church that he had served as, “It proudly stands as amonument to the faithfulness of God.” How much better if he hadsaid, “The church stands as a living witness to the faithfulness ofGod.”

Too often churches, and Christians, become monuments ratherthan living witnesses. Beginning with real zeal and enthusiasm, churches and Christians who once had a magnetic fellowship and borean effective witness to the Christian faith, often see that energy and fo-cus wear down. Prayers become perfunctory. Worship becomes auto-matic. Reaching out to those who are hurting becomes the job of theprofessional clergy. The Bible becomes more praised than studied. Out-reach to the community becomes nil. The danger is that pride of thepast can become a substitute for power in the present.

Instead, we return to the cross of Good Friday and the opentomb of Easter to find genuine love in Christ Jesus. We turn to the Onewhose power, through Word and Sacrament, has called us into this rela-tionship of faith and trust. Knowing how much we are loved by God,we want others to know this Good News, too! It’s simply a matter ofletting the Light of God that is in us through faith shine through thegood works we do. We live as shining lights allowing God to drawothers to Himself through us.

New Bible Study Series for MenLutheran Hour Ministries is developing an exciting new

group Bible study designed to educate and activate men. Theabsence of active, involved and committed Christian men in ourchurches is impeding our witness to the world and a key factorin the decline of church membership.

Recent research reveals:

+ When a child leads the way in commitment to achurch, 3.5% of families follow.

+ When a woman leads the way in commitment to a church,17% of families follow.

+ But, when a man leads the way in commitment to achurch, 92% of families follow.

+ Also, 42% of American men attended church regularly in1992. But by 1997, only 28% of American men attendchurch regularly.

Clearly, without male spiritual involvement families, churches and our witness all suffer. That is why LHM ismoving boldly forward with this new outreach to men forrelease this summer. A $25,000 matching grant has been givenby a friend of LHM. You now can have your gift toward thisBible Study doubled up to the value of the $25,000 matchinggrant.
