    Prologue: The Time Has Come.

When the time comes and the Ancient must defend,

Only a few loyal companions will be there in the end.

The stars are vague, they do not tell what the future holds,

If they do succeed, endless tales will sing of warriors bold. But if they should fail in the resistance and all is worthless.

Then Eshare and his minions will forever walk the surface.

    * * *

The man stood nearly six feet tall in stature, his sleek black hair slid evenly across

his face, mostly covering up his dark catlike eyes and all of their worry. The vermilionshaded vest he wore slung casually off of his lanky body, opened in the middle exposing

his slender abdomen. It hung about halfway down his thighs, the bottom scraping

harmlessly against his shadow colored pants. He walked with a valiant posture, showinghis inner honor and pride to the very few who have ever gazed upon him.

He strode through a nearly endless cave-like fortress full of mind boggling mazes

and views so dark even the Dwarves of the Pit of Brace wouldnt be able to locate theirown beard. To him this didnt matter in the least, his endless memory provided him withthe exact whereabouts of which he was heading, and his ever watchful eyes glistened in

the nothingness, showing him every crevasse in his path as if the heavens were beaming

their generous lights before his every step. In his mind he knew this had to be done, though he wished he could buy more time. Ever so deeply he wished he had the chance to

do this alone and leave everyone else soon to be involved fully unaware of all that is

happening. Although he knew it had to be this way, not even Pumaru the protector of

Jun~Itrela himself could change this fated day. Nor could he turn back the hands of timein hope to erase what was soon to be made history, or very possibly the conclusion of

    everything thus far.

Pumaru shook that last thought out of his brain, his soft thick hair wavinggraciously in front of his face as he tried to think of more positive conclusions. Maybeeverything will turn out better then planned, and the Ancient will already be the fiercest

of fighters, ready to do battle with Eshare himself on this very day. Or possibly the

Ancient knew nearly as much as Pumaru did and was prepared for any upcomingdramatic changes that may besought him. Then one last thought flashed through

Pumarus spiraling mind, perhaps the Ancient knew nothing of his background or race,

and knew naught of the hardships he was soon to face. Was the Ancient just assuming a

    3

    4/28

role as a regular human, ignorant that he is the one that must combat the inhabitants of

the Underworld to save Jun~Itrela and all those who call it home?

Deep in his heart Pumaru knew it to be true, the last of the powerful race known

only as the Ancients was totally oblivious to his extinct heritage and the role that theyplay in the crystal-clear battle of good versus evil. As he continued his journey through

the nearly never-ending cave Pumaru stumbled across one last thought, not only did theAncient most likely no nothing about any of this, Pumaru had no way of telling who inJun~Itrela it was. The final chapter in that thought nearly hit him as hard as a warhammer

to the face. Although Pumaru didnt know who the last Ancient was, Eshare the lord of

the Underworld, and the king of darkness knew exactly whose blood pumped theremaining traits of the dying breed. He also knew exactly where to locate him.

    Chapter 1: Uncle Gravious

Altavir sat alone in his small cottage room, leaning against one of the walls forsupport. Absent mindedly he talked aloud to his aged dog, barely above the sound of his

own breathing, I hope moms almost done with dinner, Im starving. Not to mentionZoei has been bothering me about a snack ever since I got back from Leindas house.

Slowly he bent over on the chipped wooden crate he sat on, gently patting

Bellavilles pitch black head. Everything on Bellaville was pitch-black except for a

distinct white blotch of hair placed almost in the middle of his chest. Nearly all of thenails on his paws had fallen off from the long hard life he had endured. His deep brown

eyes gazed up lovingly at Altavirs green orbs as he snuggled his head in tenderly closer

    towards his young master.

Altavir stood up then, patting his right hand against his black pants as hemotioned for Bellaville to follow. The two strolled out of Altavirs room then, entering

the small living room in which the family ate their meals and spent countless hours

together chatting about nothing. As always Altavirs eyes gazed up solemnly to the greatkatana which was attached to a large wooden case held unto the wall. This katana once

belonged to the great Samurai warrior Brasta, Altavirs late father. Brasta was a man

known nearly all across the land for his brave deeds and his more then exceptional swordplay. The katana known simply as Slayer was also renowned for its crimson colored

diamonds vastly cut and displayed across its hilt, and for its sharp and sturdy blade,

nearly unequal to any other weapon. Altavirs mind brought him back to a time where he

would look forward to his father coming home and giving him the tightest of hugs as he

explained in colorful detail the duties he had preformed that night or day. All of thatended abruptly when Altavir was only nine years of age. He had learned that a pack of

deadly assassins, who were on the run, had cornered Brasta and a couple of hiscompanions barely outside of his home, Tesall. Brasta unfortunately had been unequipped

that fateful night, Slayer, and his matching crimson armor tucked away at home, where

his pregnant wife and beloved son were sleeping. He thought nothing about bringing outhis gear on a simple fishing trip with a couple of his old buddies, but if only he had a hint

of what was to happen that horrid night maybe things would have been different.

Although it had been nearly eight years since that miserable night Altavir still had

to wipe away a crystal tear every time his mind brought him back to those days. Shortlyafter that Altavirs mother, Julna had given birth to her late husbands baby daughter Zoei,

leaving Altavir in charge of taking care of his mother and younger sister. He didnt mindthough the young boy had felt like a man ever since his father passed away and hebecame the protector of his home.

His mother and sister werent the only ones Altavir had to care for though, their

elderly neighbor, Leinda lived in a cottage by her lonesome and was always looking for a

helping hand. Altavir would assist her with most, if not all of her chores and housework, indoors or out. Occasionally he would also go over to her house and simply spend time

    5

chatting with the wise old woman, chipping away at her loneliness, but never fully

ridding it. Even though Altavir was a young man with a heavy burden on his shoulders,

there were still opportunities when he could spend time relaxing and playing with hisdog, or sparring with his best friend, the cheerful Harkos.

Alwty! Alwtavwer! came a small, but loud voice protruding out of the entrance

    to the small cottage.

Altavir turned to his left to see his little sister Zoei standing in the doorway, one

hand connected to her hip as the other held the arm of her favorite dolly, which dangledalways by her side.

Ah, what do you need Zoei? Altavir asked, his eyes wondering off towards the

orange colored sky, looking intently at the setting sun.

Momma is gonna be howme in a coupwle of minutes. Youll never guess whoscomin with hwer! Zoeis smiled flashed from ear to ear as the last mispronounced word

came out of her innocent mouth.

Who does she have with her? Altavir asked, generally interested.Unclwe Gwavious! Zoei nearly dropped her dolly as she jumped into the air

ecstatic about the news she had just given her brother.

So Uncle Gravious is coming over for supper eh? Hmph hopefully we can havethat sparring match Ive been waiting so long for, Altavir grinned as he nodded towards

    his baby sister.

    * * *

So Alty, Julna began as she finished fixing the last dish for supper, Isnt theresomething you wanted to show your uncle?

Altavir cleared a small bit of bread out of his mouth as he began to talk, I have

finally finished making that new katana.

Altavirs uncle Gravious gray eye looked proudly upon his younger sisters son as

he nodded, showing his approval. Before he began to speak he fixed the oval patch whichcovered up the hollow hole in which his left eye used to be, Great job Altavir, your

father would have been so proud of you. Let your old uncle Gravious take a peek at it

    after dinner, okay?

Altavir nodded as he tried to hold back a chuckle and smile, taking sure note of

the many bread and gravy crumbs that now littered his old uncles beard.

Okay guys, put that loaf away, you will ruin your appetite, and supper is finally

finished, Julna barked lovingly at the two men as she turned and placed a large plate of

tenderly cooked pig meat at the table before them.

The pair of lighthearted men began to jump upon the pork meat like wild savages

until their ferocity was greeted with yet another females voice, Boys! Dont ye be

diggin in everyones food without warshin up yer hands first!

Altavir bowed his head feeling slightly embarrassed, Sorry miss Leinda well get

    right on that.

Gravious quickly apologized also as he followed his nephew outside towards the

small stream down the dirt road.

Those boys awre so cwazy! Zoei laughed as she sat out napkins on their dinnertable that had been carved from an old oak tree.

Leinda smiled softly at Zoei, her small rag covered hunched frame nestling into

one of the six matching chairs that surrounded the table.

Well we love them anyway, dont we girls, Julna cut in as she sat herself downin the chair to the right of Leinda.

K, its time to eat! Altavir blurted out as he trotted back through the open door,

his husky uncle walking behind him.

Alright everyone, get to your seats it is time for our dinner prayer, Julna smiled

as she reached out holding Leinda and Altavirs hands.

Gathered around the table, all six of the hungry group, counting Bellaville lying at

Altavirs feet, felt like a complete family that night, almost.

Boy your father was one hell of a warrior, Gravious spat out between bites of

pork, while his greasy elbow slid across the table.

The best, Altavir began, one day I hope to be just like him, Ive been trainingyou know.

Gravious washed the rest of his enormous bite down with a large swig of water

before he continued his conversation with Altavir, Well perhaps you and I can have a

practice round after I let my old stomach settle, you wouldnt want to best me when Im

not using my full abilities now would ya boy?We can wait, Altavir smiled, playfully sizing up his merely five foot tall uncle.

Dont let the height fool ya boy, Ive been known to knock a few heads loose if

the cause permitted, Gravious laughed as a half chewed chunk of chopped pork nearly

    flew out of his mouth.

Sounds like youll have your hands full tonight son, Julna joined in, winking ather son.

Altavir nearly nodded and smiled as he snuck a couple bites of his dinner onto the

floor for Bellaville, who greatly appreciated the fine snack.

Oh it looks like theres just gonna be too much action for me to be watchin,Leinda piped in, her older voice barely a whisper.

I dont wanna watch eithewr, Zoei added as she hugged her dolly tightly.

Ah, come on girls, dont you want to see some heroes in action? Gravious

padded Zoeis head playfully sending a giggle out of his young niece.

Im no hero, Altavir said in all seriousness, that was my father. Ive got a long

ways to go before I can be considered anything like that.

Well just stick with me kid and Ill show you the ropes, you know your dad and I

did go on a couple adventures together, he has taught me quite a few tricks, Graviousslowly stood up from his chair, nonchalantly brushing leftover food off of his bright blue

training shirt before walking towards the still open door.

Great food dear, Leinda told Julna as she picked up the last bite off of her plate.

Why thank you, I bought a bit of salt the last time that merchant boy was intown, it sure is a great ingredient, Julna replied.

As Julna began to clean up from supper, with the help of Zoei and Leinda, Altavir

and Gravious headed outdoors for some fresh air, with Bellaville closely following.

Are you ready to see that katana? Altavir asked while throwing a large twig

    Bellavilles way.

I sure am, go and grab it boy. Ill be waiting right here, replied Gravious, as he

leaned lightly on the coffee colored cane he always carried along with him.

Altavir disappeared into his room briefly, coming back with a crude edged two

handed katana. He handed it to Gravious, who began to inspect it, Nice job boy, its a

fairly good training weapon, and it wouldnt be bad if you had to use it in a real fight.

Yeah, Im going to make another one soon, one that resembles Slayer, but this

one should hold me off until then. Well it should help me get the best of my old uncle at

least, Altavir smiled as he took his katana back and readied himself for a quick sparring

    match.

Ah boy, my gut hasnt even settled in yet, but if youre really that ambitious Im

not the one for slowing ya down, Gravious then took a small half step back, lifting his

trusty cane with one hand in front of him.

Altavir rushed at his uncle, his large blade slashing wildly in a downward curve, catching itself against Gravious old weathered cane. Gravious pushed his small muscled

frame upward, his weapon lifting Altavirs catching him off of his guard and balance. He

retracted the cane back, this time using both hands as he turned it inward launching one

of its sides towards Altavirs ribcage. The young man pivoted his right foot behind his leftand made a quick turn-step, dodging the attack as he tried to return his own, sending his

katana in another overhead arch, hoping to catch Gravious before he caught him.

The seasoned warrior was much to quick to be caught so early in a battle by such

a simple move, his short toned legs hopped him back quite a ways, and safe from the

katana swipe as he began to speak, Good job so far boy, but Im just getting warmedup.

Altavir decided to reply not with words, but with actions as he sent his katana in a

side slash toward his own right, and Gravious left, aiming for his blind spot. A quickduck and spin of the cane sent the katana flying back towards Altavirs face; as Gravious

simply nodded his approval at his nephews attempt to attack his targets weak spot,

perhaps he would become an exceptional Samurai. The heavy blade flew rapidly towards

    8

  • 8/14/2019 The Last Ancient

    9/28

Altavir, retracting so quickly the young swordsman barely had time to pull the hilt down

and away from his exposed face.

Breathing slightly more heavy, Altavir smiled as he attempted yet another

offensive attack on his uncle. This time he dove, shoulder ahead, his katana point outleading the way straight for Gravious chest. The veteran readied himself as he held his

cane firmly with both hands in front of his chest, his legs spread wide out, preparing hisfull balance. The two family members collided, Altavirs heavy katana crashing againstGravious trusty cane, sending them both falling out of their respective owners hands.

Gravious chuckled as he leaped atop his nephew tackling him to the ground, and

quickly grappling himself into a sure-to-win position, Nice move there, but with attacks

that may end like that you must always be prepared for unarmed combat, do youunderstand boy?

Altavir breathed heavily, his uncles heavy knee seemed to fit perfectly atop his

rib cage, Yes I understand, I am ready to continue now.

Gravious hopped up, rather quick for his short, but thick size and gave Altavir a

helping hand, We can continue later, dont you worry about that, for now we have amission to go on.

A mission? Altavir asked, ready for some more excitement, What kind of a

    mission?

Your mother wanted a basket full of apples for our snack later on tonight, soundslike a great adventure dont it boy? Gravious nudged his large elbow into Altavirs side.

Oh, Altavir replied slightly disappointed as he picked up both his katana and

Gravious cane off of the now flattened grass.

Gravious chuckled again as his cane was handed back to him, We shall continue

    our training tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow, Altavir thought. That was to long, he was ready to train now, or washe? Just then an idea popped into Altavirs head, I shall find Harkos tonight and train

with him until I am ready, then Ill show Gravious!

Chapter 2: It Is My Fault

Altavir sighed quietly, sliding his bare feet across the wooden floor as he sat onhis untidy bed. He still wore the same clothing he had on while training; multiple dark

green grass stains littered his back and lower legs. Across the tiny room, where the small

wooden crate sat, Bellaville lay lounged out across the ground, his belly protruding up asif expecting a nice rub in his dreams. This sight, along with seeing Bellavilles elongated

tongue droop across the floor beside him brought a large smile to Altavirs face. The

young boy stood up slowly, as if careful not to wake his faithful pet, and began walkingtowards his door not so far away.

Normally the creaky warnings of the old floor would have given Altavir away to

Bellaville in no time, but not this night, for the elderly dog was having wonderful dreams

of feasts aplenty served by beautiful young graceful dogs. Bellaville would not be wokenso easily tonight. Altavir continued to tip toe towards the exit, every step more cautious

then the last, one even gently brushing against Bellaville, who responded with a

nonchalant head twist followed by a wag of his long ebony tail.

Now holding his breath from fear of waking up the dog, Altavir took the last stepto the door, putting his left hand on the dim knob as he began to slowly twist it open. A

slight scrape escaped the bottom of the door as it slid across the floor, followed by a

groaning of the old, lifeless hinges. This only caused Bellaville to roll to his right, butremain sleeping; Altavir noted as he fluently walked out and re-closed the door,

beginning his trek thru the hallway.

The hallway would be a much easier journey Altavir knew. He looked to the

nearest rooms, which were still ahead another ten feet or so, one to the left and the otherthe right. The door to the left was closed, sheltering Zoei and all of her belongings from

anything outside of it; the right door on the other hand though was wide open, Gravious

snoring loudly, only half of him still intact with the bed. On the floor between the

widespread door and the guest bed laid Gravious cane, slanted at a perfect angle, readyto be grabbed by its owner at anytime. Still smiling, Altavir continued creeping thru the

hallway, nearing the living room, kitchen, and his mothers area. His mothers door was

shut also. It would be a clear journey from here. The young teen snuck into the kitchenswiftly grabbing a left over apple, which was lying alone on the clean counter.

Just one last thing, Altavir told himself as he grabbed his crude two handed

katana off of the bulky weapon rack he had made along with it.The small cluttering noise it made did no real damage to Altavirs stealth mission

he knew, as he sheathed his weapon and headed out the front entrance. Once he re-closedthe door, the young man looked slowly up at the wondrous dark sky. The black night

seemed to let off an almost purple hue, each and every vast star shining its own path

towards Jun-Itrela. Above his head loomed several magnolia trees, their many coloredflowers painting spaces on the darkness all throughout the small village of Tesall. Altavir

loved his home he thought, and he wouldnt change it for the world.

    10

  • 8/14/2019 The Last Ancient

    11/28

Most all of the village had retired for the night though Altavir knew better then to

think he was the only one still awake for as far as he could see. Behind him to the east

and down a small slope he could see the lantern lights from the pub illuminating strongly, and he could hear the cheers and yells of its drunken customers. The Night Owl as it

was called seemed to always stay fairly busy. Altavir noted the many customers it had

that night as he continued to walk to his west and up the padded dirt road towards hisdestination. As he passed Leindas two roomed cottage, he noticed the weathered rocking

chair moving oh so slowly in the gentle breeze, a small nestled frame sitting atop it.

Squinting and focusing his green eyes in towards the chair, some seventy feet

away Altavir could see Leinda staring awkwardly towards him, her head tilting quitepeculiarly to the left as her mouth opened as if to say something. He quickly waved

hello towards her and continued to walk, expanding the distance between him and the

    elderly woman.

Kinda late for a stroll on the trail, dont ya think? Leinda hollered out towardsthe traveling Altavir.

Its such a nice night, Altavir began nervously, hoping his neighbor wouldntwake up his mother and tell her of his late night adventures, Im just going around the

bend, and back home. Ill be in bed in no time, he promised.

Well alright, hurry up now ya hear? Thieves and the like run around this time onight, she replied waving her hand towards the trail as if she were sending Altavir off

    herself.

He simply nodded in reply and began his trip off towards the bend, and the end of

    Tesall.

    * * *

Is that all yer havin tonight boy? the aged bartender by the name of Sert spat

out as he slammed a mug of ale atop the oak counter.

Yes, thats it for tonight. Ive got a long trip ahead of myself, replied the nearest

patron who sat on a quite comfortable stool.

His completely shaven head shone off of the lanterns closest to him, while his

dark beady eyes lowered towards the floor, careful not to get to much light into them. His

blue tank top easily showed off his muscled frame, which towered over everyone inside

of the pub, except for its bouncer, he knew. Slung over his enormous back was a gigantic

warhammer, the heavy metal head on it nearly bigger then the stool he sat on.

Ha ha, Sert began to reply, Where you headed to tonight Oliver?

I got me a job. Some older fellow who lives up by the meadow hired me out, and

good at that. Said hed give me five hundred coins once I killed whatever it is thats beensneaking in his crops, Oliver replied as he smiled at his long time friend.

    11

    12/28

Nice. Im proud of ya! Old knuckle head finally got an easy one, Sert

chuckled, getting the attention of everyone else at the counter.

Thanks. Well Im off to take a couple critters heads off. Expect me back in my

seat by this time tomorrow! Oliver laughed along also as he stood up, beginning to exitthe tavern.

May luck be with ya. Ill make sure to say a prayer for whatever it is thats

unfortunate enough to be found on the wrong side of that hammer of yers too! Sert

yelled out at his leaving buddy.

One last smile crossed Olivers face as he walked out of The Night Owl and

onto the lonely trail. He began walking west up the small slope and continued to walk

towards the meadows when he was stopped by a voice familiar to anyone in Tesall.

Oliver, is that you? Leinda called out, still snuggled up on her rocking chair asshe had been all night.

Oliver waved happily at the recognizable woman as he began to walk towards her,

Hows it going maam, did you need anything?I gotta favor to ask ya. Now dont you be expectin much money from it either,

but a friend of mine, Altavirs the name, you know Brastas boy. Well he headed off thisway not so long ago, Im just worried bout him is all. Go check on em if yeve got the

time young one, Leinda bluntly answered as she continued to rock casually as if nothing

    was going on.

    * * *

The dense humid air seemed to escalate inside of the small woods near Apista, thetiny kingdom in which Harkos lived. The trees hung at various angles over Altavirs head,

dangling every which way in the little light the moon still provided. The brave youngman continued to walk confidently, his katana sheathed tightly against his back should he

need to defend himself. A slight bustle in the small copse beside him caught him fully

    aware.

He stopped dead in his tracks and slowly unlatched his katana, readying it in bothhands as he stared intently into the deep murky forest. The hidden activity seemed to

cease as soon as Altavir look upon it, which put a slight bit of worry over the young

samurai. Slowly he bent lower, as if to hide himself from any onlookers that were deeper

in the now suddenly mysterious forest. Step by step he crept up towards the denser

section of the nearest thicket, his katana at his side and ready.

Hello. Is anybody in there? he quietly called out, as his hand brushed across a

small dead branch, moving it aside.

A slight movement ahead and to his left was how forests replied; only makingAltavir push even more branches aside.

    12

Probably just a stupid animal, Altavir presumed as he took a few steps back

    towards the trail.

The movement off to the side almost immediately crept up to a faster pace, as if

something was running directly towards the trail.

Whoa! Altavir cried out, re-readying his two handed blade and firmly placinghis boots into the dirt.

The last of the branches parted ways as a large dark animal pounced onto the trail,

leaping out next to Altavir. The young man cocked his blade back over his head andbegun to swing it down upon the creature until he noticed its budding antlers.

Only a stupid deer, he sighed, looking at the young graceful buck effortlessly

    glide by.

The encounter with the deer seemed only to be a prelude of the animals that began

passing by, as if they were all headed for something, he thought. Although this seemed tobe strange to the young man, he didnt pay much attention nor heed to it. He simply

continued to walk the trail towards Apista, realizing how close he had come to hisdestination.

    * * *

He stood alone on this well lit night, his rusted spear stilted at his right side as he

marched solo towards what seemed to be a training dummy made out of sticks and hay.

The moon and stars glowed softly off of his plum colored jacket, clearly showing the dim

yellow stitching that was sown across the neck, arms, and outlines of his top. His bushydark hair flown lightly thru the easy night air, as did his loosely fit pants. The intensity of

his thick eyebrows showed the seriousness in his demeanor as he headed even closertowards the training dummy.

With an underhanded twist of his right wrist he brought up his spear and turned it

around in one fluent motion, the back end of his weapon smashing against the broadest

side of the training instrument. It crashed backwards from the heavy blow as it began tosway back and forth from a number of other strikes. The young warrior twist-turned his

husky body to and fro, the weight of his heavy frame behind each and every attack. He

cried out loud, his concentration growing, as he shifted the weapon in the opposite

direction, the spears tip slashing a gash through the dummys face.

Pieces of hay flew every which way as the tarnished spear head easily ripped its

way across its intended target. A large smile crossed the youthful cherubic face of the

young man as he retracted his spear back to his right side and began to march onward.

Nice move there, Harkos. Altavir yelled out as he made his way thru theclearing his friend was standing in.

Hey Altavir! Harkos yelled out, his pitch cracking with every individual

    syllable.

Altavir laughed as he closed the twenty foot gap that remained between him and

his friend, I see youre up for some training tonight.

Harkos simply nodded as he readied his trusty weapon and stood in a fightingstance towards Altavir.

Still have that old spear you found, eh? Altavir joked with his training partner

as he ripped his katana out of its sheath.

The two friends slowly began to circle each other in a counter clockwisedirection, big smiles etched out on both of their innocent faces. Altavir struck first, as he

always did, faking an overhead chop with his katana as he crouched down and shoulder

struck Harkos right in his plump gut. The stunned warrior bent low, clutching his belly ashe stepped back in an attempt to evade any further attacks from his opponent, retaliating

with a strike of his own.

Harkos, with his head still down, blindly plunged his spear forward in asuccessful attempt to keep his opponent at bay, giving him the little time he needed toregain his composure. Altavir simply sidestepped the sightless attack as Harkos threw his

head back up defiantly and began to speak, Alright buddy, one lucky shot wont get you

    a win over me!

With the last cracking words that flew out of Harkos mouth he slammed the buttof his spear into the softened soil, his big boned frame standing proudly in the moon

light. Altavir let a small chuckle escape him, seeing the sight of his goofy friend

imagining he was a hero or something made him laugh aloud. He pressed on his attack

thru his life filled smile though, his heavy two handed blade crashing against the side ofthe whirling rusty spear. The sheer force of both the young fighters pushed them unto the

ground where they began to scramble for their newly lost weapons.

They were both regained in a matter of seconds and the young men were at it

again, not because of anger and not because they were told or thought they had to. Theybattled for the simple pleasure of being able to. They sparred, pouring their hearts into

each and every move for more then a competition to see which one was better with their

preferred weapon. They did it simply because they felt like it. Altavir would defeatGravious in the morning he was sure of it.

The two almost overly talented warriors continued their match for many long

minutes to come, no clear winner showing on either side. Sweat beaded off of their brows

and unto their clothes and even the ground with every exhausting move they preformed.

Like a practiced routine it was for the pair of best friends, weapons spinning andsmashing off of each other repeatedly, concentrated looks overcoming both of their

serious faces. And still they continued.

Altavir ducked a swift side strike from the old spear as he kicked his agile rightleg straight up into the air, his heavy boot snapping merely inches away from Harkos

head. The hefty teen slid his neck back immediately, his whole cranium retracting away

from Altavirs dirty foot, his whole body jumping inches back also. He nodded at hisaggressive friend as he prepared to continue the battle with a blow of his own until

    14

something out of the ordinary caught both his and Altavirs attention. The area to the side

of the combatants, north in direction seemed to be rolling over in smoke.

    * * *

Oliver waited in the woods quite long enough he thought, something was going

on back at Tesall. Maybe a drunken patron leaving The Night Owl had caught his

house on fire trying to make a late night snack, or a clumsy old man dropped a lit torch

atop a flammable pile, either way help was needed. The smoke seemed to roll out veryheavily, and in multiple spots, and the fine tuned man-for-hire could swear he heard more

then one bloody cry for help.

His heavy feet clunked in the soft grass, across his way more mammals ran

further away from Tesalls general direction. Oliver took quick note of this and increased

his speed as he trekked back towards his hometown. He would be there in no time at all.

    * * *

They carried the biggest of torches in one hand, their other reserved for their

choice of weapon. Their armor, the few who donned it, was blacker then the night itself, the creases were numerous however, and their undisciplined wild marching was only

made louder due to the creaking armor. She seen them coming from the distance but

couldnt seem to get her fragile body up to do anything about it. She cried out to any whowere listening, but not so many hear when they are deep in their dreams. She even tried

balling her senile frame up into her wooden chair to hide herself, but she realized there

    was nothing to be done.

The fierce armored figure threw his whole body back into one large swing as hetossed his enormous iron javelin through the dark sky. It sung an impending song of

doom as it soared through the air, nearing its intended target. She didnt cry out in pain,

and she didnt struggle to dodge the sharp missile. She simply closed her eyes and begana prayer out loud, Leinda felt no pain in her last moments.

What the hell are those things? Bronson, lets go! Anybody with enough to

stomach a battle for yer lives and homes better come on out here too! Nobody invades myhome and hopes to get away with it! Sert yelled at the top of his lungs, his left hand

repeatedly smashing against the serving counter while his right hand drew out his keris,

its small wavy blade flashing off of the lantern nearest it.

Bronson, The Night Owls official bouncer nodded in approval towards his

boss. He then walked over behind the wooden counter, retrieving his dense spiked club.

The silent giant led the way out of the tavern that fateful night, Sert and four othercustomers right behind him. Three of the four with Sert and Bronson were men, all of

which had some sort of family, two of the three being horribly drunk. The fourth was a

lady by the name of Krista, who was all too familiar with many of the frequent customersthe bar had. On each side she concealed a small knife, in which case to protect her from

any pushy customers, though she barely knew how to use them. The drunken lady of

the night held no fear as she exited pub though, ready to defend her home. The otherthree who were alongside Sert, Bronson, and Krista held no weapons, but readily looked

    for something to grasp upon.

The nearly sober man, who stood right behind and to the left of Bronson grabbed

the lantern which was held up in the entrance of the bar, breaking it off of the stick thatheld it into the ground as he opened the case to it, preparing to torch anyone invading his

home. The closest drunken man picked up the thin stick which once held the lantern to

the ground. Upon pulling it out of the spongy soil he noticed the sharp end, which once

was stabbed deep into the floor. He readied it, pressing the muddy improvised weaponagainst his already dingy gray shirt, which matched his unkempt beard. The last man

simply grabbed two fist sized stones off of the taverns lawn, equipping one in each hand.

All six of the proud civilians of Tesall were ready, to the best of their abilities.

Bronson led the way into the street noticing along with everyone else, the manydead bodies that littered the once violent free ground and the fire and smoke which flew

every which way in the sky, which not so long ago was filled with stars and moon light.

They all went onto the newly found battlefield, running wildly like untrained dogs. Theinebriated man who held the stones went straight for his own home, praying for his

families safety as he witnessed the gruesome ferocity of these heartless invaders.

Drax, the sober brave man, threw the lantern head with all of his might upon theenemy closest to him. The impact of the lantern smashed against the helmet of theunfortunate murderer, the small spark from the projectile weapon igniting with the torch

he held. The flame quickly overpowered the raider, scolding him more and more with

each passing second as he rolled on the blood ridden ground, letting out unworldlyscreams of anger and agony.

He turned around quickly looking for another weapon, running toward two more

defenders who were battering one of the marauders with large garden tools, beating it

senseless. Drax stood alongside them now, kicking his downed enemy in the face, whichclipped the bottom of its helmet and ripped it off. The man stood in horror, as did the

other two farmers when the jet-black leathery skinned beast stared hatefully up towards

them. His blood red beady eyes tore holes in their souls while its gaping mouth openedshow its saliva covered fangs scrapping and grinding against one another holding back athick purple tongue, which seemed to be a foot long. The man to the left of Drax closed

his eyes as he smashed the sharp side of his rake against the beasts face, ribbing it nearly

off of its head. Drax tried to swallow as he bent low, reaching for the dead monsterssword. Blood from the battle caked the handle and his hand. He stood alongside his two

new companions as a pair of monsters mindlessly headed their way. In the distance he

    16

could see the staggering drunk swinging the stick he got from the lantern at three of the

creatures. He didnt even finish the sloppy strike before they were upon him.

    * * *

Bronson crushed the skull of his third victim, his spiked club smashing and

tearing apart the head of the unarmored fiend. Not so far behind him Sert and Krista

double teamed one of the creatures, all three of the small sharp blades they held stabbing

in and out towards the heavily armed monster, keeping him from getting an opportunityto attack. Bronson ran ahead, further up the slope, and onto a duo of the blood thirsty

monsters. His trusty club led the way, swinging precisely head height of its intended

    targets.

Ill barricade this up, go reopen the escape tunnel in Altavirs room! the

panicked Julna yelled out to Gravious as she began to drag the front room table in front

    of the door.

Gravious nodded and headed off towards his nephews room. Near him Zoeiscries went unheard as she continued to grip her dolly. While Bellaville stood close to her

growling and barking madly towards the front entrance.

Where the hell is Altavir?! Gravious screamed for what seemed to be the tenth

time as he tossed aside the crate his nephew was usually found sitting upon.

Behind it still laid the escape door, set up long ago by Altavirs father Brasta, should they need to run from any of his enemies. Gravious bent low, his cane at his side.

He began to pull on the slim round metal handle, slowly but surely opening the door. The

old exit proved to be heavier then he thought, he realized, as he continued his attempt toopen it.

Stupid door! he yelled aloud, pulling even harder, almost opening the rarely

    used flap.

Thats when he heard the crash in the front room, followed by a number of

screams. He stood up the quickest he ever had in his life as he grabbed his cane, runningtowards his sister and niece.

The Broad sword the attacker wielded crushed through the top of the flimsy door

and right unto Julna, cutting a large chunk of her chest out. She fell on the ground,

screaming for her daughter to run as the monster kicked thru the broken door, easilytossing aside Julna and the table she was moving there for support. Zoei dropped her

dolly and stood in sheer horror and terror as what seemed to be hundreds of tears came

    17

    18/28

swooping down her young angelic face. The invader began walking towards Zoei until a

dark form of fur and teeth leaped upon it, taking it to the ground.

Bellaville gnashed his teeth several times into the monsters neck, buckets of

blood pouring upon the once clean brown floor. Zoei stood frozen still, her mouth agape, staring both at her mortally wounded mother and her evil attacker, as her loyal dog tore it

    to pieces.

Zoei go to your brothers room now! Youll see the door to go into. Ill take care

of your mother! Now run! Gravious grabbed his beloved niece by her shoulder andthrew her the other way, a large crystal tear dropping from his gray eye.

As he headed towards his wounded sister, Gravious twisted the handle of his

weathered cane, protracting a four inch blade out of the end of it. He grabbed Bellaville

by the back of the neck, lifting him off of the dead monster and tossing him Zoeis way,Go protect her. Go get Zoei!

Bellaville started to turn towards the small girl as she turned into Altavirs room

until another black armored monstrosity entered the house. Bellaville let out a low growl

    as he readied another attack.

Go you damned stupid dog! Gravious screamed, lightly kicking the protective

dog in the leg, sending him off towards the unarmed girl as he turned back towards his

    new found enemy.

Lets go you bastard! was his only war cry.

Gravious leaped into the air, his cane above his head as the brute slowly headedhis way, drawing a slender iron sword. Down crashed the short figured and short

tempered veteran, his cane cracking unbelievably hard against the neck of the monster. It

staggered back as he plunged its sword forward, which was easily evaded by the expert

warrior.Holding onto the bladed cane with only his right hand now, Gravious charged

forward in an attempt to plunge the weapon thru his opponents throat.

The sword of the creature came up to quick though, tossing aside the weapon

as it prepared a strike of its own. Gravious, seeing the counter coming, ducked low as here-swing his cane buckling the beasts knees as it shattered its nearest shin bone. It fell to

the ground clumsily and Gravious made his move, standing back up as he slammed the

bladed cane into his doomed adversaries throat, using the force of both his arms. Thesmall but incredibly sharp blade ripped thru the muscles and cords of the throat, even

going all the way thru its target and touching the floor when the attack was finished.

    * * *

Zoei said not a word as she crawled thru the completely shadowy tunnel made forsuch an occasion. Inches behind her Bellaville crept along, his now dry nose brushing

against the childs leg. For as far as she could see there was nothing but darkness, and the

small squeezing space made matters no better.

Oliver stood alongside Altavir and Harkos as they entered Tesall. All three of their

minds blown from the scene they were witnessing. Before anything even processed allthree began running in separate directions, each having a goal in mind. Harkos went only

a short distance as he bravely crashed into a battle which was already being engaged. An

injured Drax and the remaining farmer he was with defended themselves from one of theheartless intruders.

The young spearman began spinning his weapon in a figure eight direction tearing

apart the open back of his foe. It quickly fell hopelessly as it uttered a deafening cry.

Harkos simply turned around and headed towards the next person who may need his help.As Drax and the farmer tried to hide inside of the farmers house and tend to their many

    wounds.

    * * *

Olivers target wasnt so close on the other hand. The enraged sturdy man chargedforward to aid his long time friends Sert and Bronson. He ran headlong into the slope

where the only man in all of Tesall strong enough to defeat Oliver stood injured, defying

death itself as his bloody spiked club continued to pommel down on foe after foe. He

seemed to be piling the bodies up, but there were too many for him. Bronson knew hewould die a hero this night.

Wounds continued to bleed from numerous places all over his seven foot tall

body. As he swayed back and forth fighting to keep his balance, attacker after attacker

swiped their blades in at his soft flesh.

Oliver tried to reach his friend as fast as possible, but was stopped by a shocking

discovery. To the right of him, in front of a small magnolia tree laid Kristas bleeding

body. She cried out to help from Oliver.

As he headed her way he noticed one of her own blades cut deeply into her lung. The large man ran to her, dropping to his knees to get a closer look at the gruesome

wound. It had been there for many minutes he could tell, and she couldnt sustain for

    much longer.

It stabbed me with my own blade, she started to say, one hand reaching uptowards Oliver, the other gripping her opened wound, What a fool I must look like, she

tried to smile through all the pain as she hacked up dark crimson colored chunks of

    blood.

Oliver had known Krista for many years. He had even visited her on occasionalnights, looking for warmth from a temporary lover to help him forget all of his troubles.

He knew of the hard life she had given herself, whether it was her fault or not he did not

know. He never really appreciated women of her profession, and Krista was no exception,

    19

  • 8/14/2019 The Last Ancient

    20/28

but although he had never respected her as a woman, this night he had respected her as a

warrior. He gently brushed the back of his callused left hand against her smooth right

cheek, stroking away her blood mopped fluffy auburn hair while his right hand slowlyremoved the knife from her chest.

Krista exhaled loudly the pain clearly showing on her face as the blade slid out of

her skin. With the hand that wasnt gripping on her horrid gaping chest she squeezedOlivers free hand with all of her might. The large but gentle man tried to make theprocedure as painless as possible and when it was finished he handed her back her

weapon, wiping her blood off on his now dirty blue tank.

May God be with you warrior, he whispered into the ear closest him before

kissing her gently on her sweat filled forehead.

The once beautiful woman smiled the best she could as she squeezed her daggershandle, trying to get her mind off of her wound, And you great man, she replied before

    closing her eyes.

Krista never heard Olivers response, nor did she feel any more pain, ever again.

He stood up then, holding back any tears that may have blurred his vision as heran towards the falling Bronson, his warhammer now held firmly in his grasp. He ignored

the screams of other villagers at that time, he even evaded an attack from one of the

horrid creatures; his target was set.

He would come to Bronsons aid then. The newest wounds the bouncer containedwould not let him stand on his own two feet for much longer.

Sert stood beside his long time friend, his keris assaulting a single unarmored

spear wielding monster. In the back of his mind he knew his buddy had seen too much of

his own blood to make it out of there, but he would stay alongside him, fighting till his

last breath. As he laid one foe dead another quickly took its place.Beside him the unearthly strong man fought back seven of the beasts at once, two

of them even strapped to his back thrashing and striking, trying to bring him to his knees.

Yet another was clenching on with his dirty sharp claws, ripping several chunks of his legapart at a time while it bit menacingly at his upper thigh.

He ignored the pain and continued to swing his tremendous spiked club, spraying

the brains of one of the weaker monsters all over his already gory face while his unarmed

left hand constantly choked the life out of another of the unarmored monstrosities. The spear dug deeper into his side then, forcing him to fall to the ground, pulling

the smallest one with him. They leaped atop him then, their blades finding their way into

his unprotected flesh. He screamed out in denial and agony, clenching with both his

enormous hands unto the fallen monsters skull, crushing it under the sheer pressure.

His sight was very blurry now and filled with red blemishes every which way, but

he could still slightly see the warhammer wielded by his ally Oliver come crashing down

upon the two creatures in the back of the pile up. Crushing more then just a few bones,

Oliver struck down hard again, dislocating the neck of yet another beast who then staredblankly down towards the ground at Bronson before another slap of the hammers head

sent him to the depths of hell.

    20

Bronson smiled at the sight, still ignoring the pain and injuries his body had

endured as he looked up appreciatively at his hammer toting friend felling foe after foe,

trying to get to his immovable body.

For Tesall! he screamed out, witnessing another falling monster, and Bronsonthen knew no more.

Sert knew what had happened to his companion but he couldnt stop to see the

horrors of his fallen friend at that moment. He had been pierced badly in the lower part of

his portly gut, and he stood still fighting two of the evil invaders. They could defeat himin no time he realized. The beast on the left closed in ever so near with his already bloody

spear. The old bartender simply shut his eyes and began an onslaught of swinging,

praying aloud that he may live thru the night. They then began their attack.

He heard the smashing of bones and fell to his knees, rolling his body in as closeas he possibly could. He even felt one of the monsters atop him, its heavy armor nearly

crushing him alive. He heard the booming clap of what he thought to be his death. Then

the armored creature slid off of him. Sert truly thought he was dead.

Get up old man, find some safety or something. These streets werent made forsenile fellows like you, Oliver tried his best at an attempt at humor to slightly take a bit

of weight off of the grim situation, which did not work in the least.

Sert opened his eyes and looked up to the familiar voice, Im alive? Ye saved me

with that special hammer of yers, huh.

He stood up still gripping his wounded gut and began to walk back towards an

untouched shack about fifty yards away, Ill take refuge in here, and tend to these here

wounds. Go crush a few of those damned ugly things for me boy!

Oliver simply nodded and turned his direction to a new duo of oncoming

    monsters.

    * * *

The torch skidded off the top of Julnas roof, beginning a small dance of

concentrated flames. Altavir grimaced from the sight and continued running straighttowards his home, not even noticing his neighbor lying dead in her favorite rocking chair.

His front door was missing and in its place stood one of the invading marauders. Behind

him he could see his courageous uncle fighting off another two of the monsters inside ofhis house.

The creature never even saw the heavy katana waving thru the air directly behind

him as it sliced down in a perfect arch tearing thru his weak but weighty armor. He tried

to call out to its busy comrades but was cut short from the blade, which retracted from hisshoulder and stabbed directly thru its back. It put up no real struggle as it fell hopelessly

to its knees, opening the way for Altavir to re-enter his home.

    21

It was extremely hot inside and the flames which started at the roof were making

their way thru the entire house. Everything inside was ransacked beyond belief and a few

of the dead monsters were sprinkled across the floor, killed from Gravious trusty cane.

He immediately ran to his uncles aid, kicking low to strike his nearest foe in theback of the knee, stopping it in mid move. A few well placed swipes of the home aid

blade sent the unbalanced creature out his this world in nearly an instant.

Altavir! Gravious yelled aloud as he pinned his opponent to the floor and began

    attacking its face viciously.

To the side the young man could see his injured mother lying very quietly and still

against the west wall just a few feet away from the broken door. He ran to her, tears

swelling up his green eyes which now seemed to hold uneven golden stripes going every

    which way.

Mother, mom! Are, are you okay? the stunned young samurai cried out to his

    unconditional loving parent.

Julna slowly opened her eyes and gave a slight smile, glad to see her oldest childwas alright and breathing, Come here son. I would love nothing more then one last hug.

The tears streamed ever so fast down the young mans dirty cheeks as he bent low, throwing his arms around his barely breathing mother.

There are many things I would love to tell you, she began as she coughed up

bits of blood that were now filling her punctured lung, Gravious, she then called aloud,

getting the attention of her fearless brother, Make sure no more of them get in here forjust a minute, I need to talk to Alty.

Gravious grimly nodded and headed toward the opening where the door once

stood, preparing to keep any intruders out.

Mom, save your energy, youre going to need it to make it out of here, Altavir

began before being cut off by his mother.

You are my son and always will be, Altavir, but not in the sense that you think

of. Your father and I got you when you were barely an infant from an acquaintance of

your fathers. All we were told was to protect you, and your father was sure hed be able

to do it until the day he passed, Julna began, her falling tears mixing with her spillingblood.

Mom, just stop, I dont care, just hang on. Ill get you out of here! Altavir

continued as he tried to pick up Julna.

She cried out in horrible pain as her son began to lift her. Altavir put her down, realizing the pain he was adding to what she was already facing as he threw his head

upon her shoulder and began crying aloud.

We knew you were different then us, but we never told you. We loved and raised

you as a son so thats what you were to us, our son. Though deep inside we knew youwere much more. The old tales of the Ancients are true my boy. I know you do not know

what is going on, but it all makes sense, it must. You are the one these demons are after.

    22

    23/28

You are the last Ancient, Julna quietly told her son as they held each other closer then

    they ever had.

Its my fault, Altavir began, the smoke from the fire thickening with every word

he spoke, If I was here I could have protected you. I swear I could have. Wheres Zoeimom, where is she?

She is fine, Julna answered, Listen to me son. I cannot explain what is going

on, but I know what the cause is. You must get to Apista as soon as possible and speak

with its ruler Tidus, he knows much more about the Ancient legends then I. Oh if onlyyour father was here, Julna then pulled back slightly from her son and weakly moved

her arm up, pointing towards Brastas great sword Slayer still hanging on the wall, Get

it son, and go to Apista, Gravious will look after Zoei. You will find out what you need toknow to defeat these monsters after talking to Tidus. Go now son, and remember I love

    you, and I always will.

Altavir stood up, still holding his mothers hand and nodded towards her. He had

no intentions of leaving her behind, but he would grab Slayer, should any more of these

monstrosities enter his home. He threw his self made two handed bloody katana down onthe ground as he reached up for his fathers special made blade. The dark crimson handle

fit perfectly in his left hand; he gripped unto it tightly, his eyes straying off into themultiple diamonds set in various places around the hilt. He replaced his heavy sheath

with the much lighter sheath that belonged to Slayer, putting it on his right hip before

re-sheathing the katana. The young man then took a deep breath in and began walkingback towards his mother.

By this time the smoke in the house was nearly too thick to see or even breathe.

Julnas body seemed as a shadow lying still on the floor, barely drawing in any breath.

Come on boy! Gravious shouted to his grief stricken nephew, Get outta here

now before you choke yourself to death! He darted towards the young man, grabbing him by the front of his shirt as he

began dragging him out of the burning house.

Julna nodded in approval at her brother forcing her adopted son to escape the

house, which couldnt sustain the flames or smoke much longer. As hard as Altavir tried

to struggle against his physically stronger uncle he couldnt resist his pull which draggedhim out of the house in a matter of seconds.

Just moments after the two fighters left the burning house the weakened roof

came crashing down where they stood not even a minute before. Altavir screamed and

threw his fists into the air, his entire body shaking from fear and hatred. Curses rolled

heavily out of his mouth as he ran back towards his burning house in which his motherwas trapped.

Its all your fault! How could you leave your own sister in there? Youre lucky I

dont cut you up right here, you dirty bastard! Altavir screamed at the top of his lungs inGravious face.

You fool, Gravious yelled back, Wed all have been killed if I didnt drag you

out then. And if I was going to try and get your mother out shed just of died a painful

He hid behind Harkos and his miraculously spinning spear cradling his small son,

hoping for the onslaught to stop. He still held on to one of the stones he grabbed outsideof The Night Owl while the other he once possessed lay far away and out of his reach.

It didnt matter though, Melz was no fighter, nor did he want to be. He had his baby safe

in his arms and this hero of a teen was protecting both of them with his own life.

Ha ha! Harkos smiled still wildly spinning his spear, keeping both of his currentopponents a good distance from him and Melz.

He made the attack then, not fearing any repercussions from the blades of his

foes, for Harkos had never been afraid of battles and he had always wished he could be

such a hero. The edge of the spear head slid roughly on the side of one of the creaturesfaces, splitting his cheek in half and blinding him on his left side. Not even a split second

after his first attack the butt of the rusty spear crashed into the other creatures helmet

knocking him back a foot giving Harkos time to deal with his blinded foe first.

A quicker then usual spin of his chubby hands sent Harkos spear back at his sidesetting up for a powerful thrust that would impale his enemy easily.

Instead of trying a strike that would leave him open for such a move, the monsterdecided to try a leap into the sky as an attempt to evade the powerful attack.

Harkos weapon struck out still though, skewering thru the monsters foot sending

it crashing towards the ground in pain. The young spearman retrieved the sharp end of hisweapon then redirected his strike to finish off the wounded beast, until a stinging pain

    shot thru his back.

He turned around to see the other beast he was fighting standing there

weaponless. No, he realized, not only weaponless, but the creature was missing its holewielding arm from the elbow down. Its weak hand however now dripped fresh with

specks of Harkos blood, its menacing claws retracting from the strike it preformed on

the humans back. Before Harkos could react again a shining silver streak lit up the night sky

momentarily as the blade of Slayer once again struck deeply into the injured marauder

feasting on its thick flesh, cutting thru its insides like butter. It fell dead off to the side as

Altavir ran up to assist his comrade, Gravious beside him. They soon disposed of theblinded beast in no time and began to look around Tesall for any more survivors.

By this time most of the invaders had either died or ran off into the black night

leaving a town full of death and waste behind. As the dawn slowly approached and the

sun took its morning routine rising east in the once smoke filled sky most of thesurvivors stood together in a circle, mourning over lost family members, cursing their

evil attackers, and wondering where they would go next. Among them stood Altavir

passive and quiet Slayer still in his grasp, alongside him was the slightly injured Harkoswho was now leaning on his weapon, and Gravious whos hand relaxed on Altavirs

shoulder, giving him all the emotional support he could.

Oliver sat on the ground a few feet from the trio, his warhammer heavily stained

with his enemies blood and a deadly look in his beady eyes. Sert, who now had hisstomach bandaged up, lay near Oliver, still holding his wound. Drax and Melz also stood

near for support, Drax leaning against a tree with a major damaged arm held his head

low, praying for the souls that were lost that night. Melz who stood close simply cradled

Braiden, his son, and repeatedly thanked God over and over for his survival.

Along with them there were nearly two dozen others who still lived, many of

them harboring injuries from the battle that had just finished.

Well what should be done now? Sert said aloud, getting most peoples attention.

We need to relocate, in case of any further attacks from those things. Once wehave done that then we can figure out a further plan. One more day shall be used for

searching for survivors, Drax seemed to take the lead of the remaining village, and no

    one argued with him.

They all grabbed what little belongings they had and began searching the rest of

the village and the surrounding areas in groups of at least three, while Altavir, Gravious, and Harkos had different plans.

We need to find Zoei first, Altavir began fearing the worst for his baby sister.

I assure you she if fine boy, she took that emergency escape route your old man

put in your room. Ill head on over towards the township of Denj, thats where the tunnelends, Gravious replied as he began walking south, towards Denj.

What did your mom want you to do Alt? Harkos asked his best friend in a

    curious manner.

It took a minute for Altavir to even respond, losing his mother was weighing

heavily on him now, and the thought of not seeing his sister only added to the pain, She

said Tidus in Apista may know more about thesethings. If we talk to him then we mayknow where and how to strike them.

Tidus! Harkos exclaimed with sheer enthusiasm, Well head off right now. Hey

Gravious, he yelled out, Meet us in Apista once you have Zoei, okay?

Off in the distance the one eyed veteran fighter nodded as he continued walking to

    find his lost niece.

Altavir started walking back towards the forest to get to Apista, careful not to look

in the direction of his home for fear of losing his composure.

Wait, a deep voice erupted from the distance, If Tidus knows about them. How

can you be sure that they dont know about him? They may be on their way to attackApista as we speak.

The two young men turned around to see Oliver right behind them, heading their

way, No way am I letting them near my home! Harkos exclaimed pushing his spear tip

    high into the sky.

Well, Oliver began, Lets go then.
