The Land Cruiser Festival remindedme how passionate South Africansare about 4x4s and like owners oftraditional performance cars, thereare plenty of owners who want morePOWER!

It isn’t just power for the sake of itthough: plenty of people want extratorque for towing toys such as twin axle

Needless to say, our Superchargedconversion to Toyota’s bulletproof4.0-litre V6 remains hugely popular, partly because it is available across Hilux, Fortuner, FJ and the various LandCruiser models.

LAND CRUISERFESTIVAL. What a blast! Land Cruiser ownersknow how to have fun and theLand Cruiser Festival at Tarlton was proof of that. Our stand wasdominated by our legendary FJSupercharged and a similarly-uprated Land Cruiser single cabpick-up. Highlights of the eventwas the Cruiser tug-of-war, 4x4drag racing, and some veryinteresting and unusual Cruisers of all shapes, sizes and vintage!

The Rand is taking a beating, forcing us to increase the price ofTorco. We’ve kept it to a minimumand it is now R335 a bottle. Whathasn’t changed is that it’s still themost stable product of its kind, with no harmful side effects. Go toTorco dealers to find an outlet thatsuits you.

WE CAME, WE SAW, WE ACHIEVEDOUR OBJECTIVE – thanks to a greatteam effort! On Saturday August 22 alarge and enthusiastic RGMotorsportcontingent arrived at Tarlton for TunersWars, some of the technical guys havingpulled an all-nighter tailoring themapping of our Golf7 R project car foroptimal performance.

And our results were impressive, outthe box. Our very first run, with a carcompletely untested over a quarter-mile,netted a time just the wrong side of 12 seconds and we knew we had atarget to aim for: a sub-12.

Despite an untouched interior and anengine still internally stock, we ran classH where almost anything goes, accepting that we were unlikely to bequickest. But we had a solid packagenonetheless: with a RGM/Garrett highboost turbo upgrade on our customRGM In-house manufactured manifoldand with an 85mm downpipe, plusprogrammable engine managementupgrade and running two-Bar boost ona Torco-enriched fuel blend, we hadseen 330kW on our four-wheel-drive

dyno the night before. Keeping it allstable temperature-wise is acustom-made intercooler and a fullcarbon fibre induction system whichfetches air from the high pressure areajust behind the grille.

Despite the ambient temperaturesrising rapidly and our limited knowledgeof the car, we slowly worked our waydown, the “Eureka!” moment comingwhen Jacques The Stiglet Joubertlaunched the car perfectly and stoppedthe clocks at 11.82 seconds at aterminal speed of 186,7 km/h.

There were smiles High Fives allround, and it was a fitting way to endthe day, and while Jacques recordedanother 11.8 run, it wasfive-hundredths of a second slower.

We took the car to a VolkswagenClub of South Africa event at ODI thefollowing day for good measure, improving performance over the ¼ to11.6 seconds and hitting 242 km/h onthe standing kilometre! Needless to say,we’re not satisfied yet, and reckon wecan manage a low-11... so watch thisspace!

MEET THE TEAM: We build a lot of high-qualityexhausts at RGM and one of thekey guys when it comes to that isHeera, a long-time employee ofthe company and a dab-handwelder/exhaust fabricator. Here heis seen doing what he does best:heating up the motorsportdivision. In fact, we reckon he’shotter than a Durban “bunnie”.

DEAR JACQUES (writes Keagan Naidoo),I would firstly like to thank you and

the team at RGMotorsport for thegreat work put into my VW Golf7 R.My car was handed over to you withabout 20 000 km on it and I had neverfelt the need to upgrade theperformance because it was naturallya monster – straight from the factory!I’ve owned a few hot hatches, all of

which were modified by varioustuning companies. But, invariably, I was never totally happy with theresult. My biggest p roblem was thatthe car was never consistent andbecame overly aggressive for everydaydriving. This is now something of thepast and I fully understand why RGMis considered one of the best, if notthe best, in vehicle performanceupgrades.

From the moment I entered thedoor, I felt comforted in knowing thatmy vehicle was in good hands.Customer service is taken to a newlevel, and is consistently matched byyour workmanship, service deliveryand results. My car is an absolute dream to drive

now: the power is insane and thedelivery is spot on! It pulls like a trainand never seems to run out of speedall the way to 7 000rpm. The best partis that everything still works with myadaptive chassis and the fuelconsumption is actually better thanbefore. When in Race Mode theexhaust flaps are open and the realbeas t starts speaking: the sounds thatare generated are music to my earsand I find myself driving my car for nogood reason all the time.

A HAPPY GOLFER

WE LOVE M-CARS…they’re just so ripefor a upgrade and in fact in stock formstill have plenty of scope for furtherengine development. This burgundy redM6 with factory Competition Pack isalready pretty monster – 4.8 seconds to100 km/h fast (despite some challengesgetting it off the line [insert video linkhere]) and 0 – 1 000 metres in 24 seconds at almost 220 km/h.

We’ll be making it a fair bit quicker,so watch this space.
