Then the significantly more powerful February 2011 earthquake, which caused many deaths and ravaged the cluster and eastern suburbs, finished off the pool by spiralling near 20,000 litres of stagnant water several metres into the air then on crashing down sucked soil, rock and garden into the pool. The chaos and damage in those first two weeks, with no water or sewage or power, was such that it was a couple of weeks before I gave attention to trying to get the pile of floating debris off the pool so I could assess the extent of damage. What I discovered was a powerful thrust of liquefaction about one and a half metres underwater had ‘hit’ and buckled the steel sides. The pool was wrecked and from that day water started to seep out and went ‘somewhere’ into the ground. This caused issues as the pool installer advised the water must not be allowed to empty unless the pool was braced against wall collapse, and as the water was very dirty and discoloured it needed regular doses of liquid chlorine to avert it becoming putrid and a health issue. And so started a weekly topping up of water lost, and a besieging of our insurer to please come and remove or repair the pool. Month following month, the pool disintegrated into an unsightly and unhealthy deep green colour with no ability to see the bottom. I hammered the insurer month after month and advised that on measuring the water loss and replenishment rate the average was 7,845 litres a week since last November. But still no action, until last week… And then within four frenetic days, with trucks and diggers and land compacting machinery seemingly everywhere - the back end of the carport, damaged also in the earthquakes, was demolished and the pool was extracted then filled. It’s a job well done.

REFLECTIONS… ‘What is a Front End Digger Doing in our Pool?’

In the 7.1 earthquake of September 2010 our pool was damaged and since then hasbeen unusable. Then the significantly more powerful February 2011 earthquake, whichcaused many deaths and ravaged the cluster and eastern suburbs, finished off the poolby spiralling near 20,000 litres of stagnant water several metres into the air then oncrashing down sucked soil, rock and garden into the pool. The pool was wrecked and from that day water started to seep out and went‘somewhere’ into the ground. This caused issues as the pool installer advised the watermust not be allowed to empty unless the pool was braced against wall collapse, and asthe water was very dirty and discoloured it needed regular doses of liquid chlorine toavert it becoming putrid and a health issue. But that is not necessarily the end ofconcerns because the ‘leaked’ severalhundred thousand litres of water had to gosomewhere! Take a look at the photograph. The pool damage is evident, but look at thewetness of the excavated soil. Take a lookat the collapsed ground which slid into thepool taking the digger with it as soon as itmoved close to the pool edge. It took muchskill and five hours to extract the digger.

The repairs to significant damage to ourhome could still be several years away fromgetting attention, as with five or six others of our nineteen damaged homes in the clusterregion. But it did feel somewhat satisfying to see, at last, some progress on the pool. Itwas a light of encouragement.

This week we received news of the unexpected 5.3 magnitude earthquake last night tothe area around Melbourne and my thoughts and prayer went immediately to ourbrothers and sisters in the ‘Families for Christ’ – they would indeed be unnerved andwondering ‘where did that come from?’ And then our Wellington Branch people live righton top of what is reputed as the ‘big fault-line’ of New Zealand. And worldwide there aremany of our communities vulnerable to severe disasters and devastating acts of nature. But we all have access to God. The best and perhaps only real preparation for our livesas we move through life is our relationship with the Lord.

And so Veronica and I have a flicker of rebuild activity right there in our garden. It is notmuch, but it is a start. But in a more significant way we have the assurance of the Lordas he spoke into our community gathering in June: ‘My ways are not your ways. I knowthat you have served me faithfully for thirty-three years but I say to you this day that yourwork for me is only just beginning. It is only just beginning for all around this nation Ihave placed lights, lights, the Lamb of God Community- in cities and in provinces. I saythis day that your work for me has only just begun. And for those of you who are young Isay this work is for you too. And for those who are getting older I say to you this day thatyour strength is in me and not in yourself. I will give you strength. For days of darknessare coming on this land. Your work for me is only just beginning.’

NEWS AND ARTICLES

THE INTERNATIONAL COORTINATORS’ MEETING – MAY 2012

The Sword of the Spirit recently held its International Coordinators Meeting [ICM] onMay 25 to 28 in Caldwell College in New Jersey, USA. Those who went from NewZealand were Robert Van Doon from Christchurch, Tom Caballes from Wellington, andHarry Lowe and Greg Hall from Auckland. Unfortunately because of a back injury RogerFoley was not able to join. The conference was held over four days with times forpersonal prayer, praise and worship, common meals together, fellowship, presentations, workshops teachings, group sharings and praying for one another.

The main theme of the conference was Pastoring the Pastors: Our Call to be Saints,Missionaries and Martyrs. The talks and sharings revolved around these topics duringthe whole conference.

Sharing from Harry Lowe:

It has truly been an amazing experience forme attending the International CoordinatorsMeeting in New Jersey. We were around 400men from various countries and regions, withdifferent backgrounds and languages;however we gathered with a common andunited spirit giving our praise to the one trueliving God. I must say the praise and worshipwas truly anointed. I saw men giving their allin their worship; no distractions would taketheir focus from the Lord. Proverbs 29:18

says, ‘Where there is no vision, the people perish’…. The opposite is also very true, where there is a vision, the people have a joy for living, a purpose to fulfil and a missionto strive for. Brothers and sisters the Sword of the Spirit have a huge vision: to be acommunity of communities, of people on a mission and living a common way of life; tobe a bulwark. I was so blessed to see and be part of this BULWARK in action. I amgrateful to Roger, Bruce, and the National Council members for allowing me to be part ofand experience this bigger picture of community life.

The teachings, together with oursharing groups (6 of us from variouscommunities and regions or countries)helped me focus personally on mycalling to be of service in the Lord’svineyard, and has reenergised mydesire and passion to live and serve incommunity. Presentations andworkshops were an added bonus.

KAIROS has a very special focus inthe Sword of the Spirit and I wouldencourage you parents if you canafford and encourage your children to do a GAP year and live and serve in anothercommunity, you will not regret having done this experience. I know it is expensive, but ifwe have this vision for our children to experience a higher calling there will be a way tofulfil this desire. I am convinced in my heart that there will be many of us parents that willtake note of this wonderful exposure available in the Sword of the Spirit for our childrento work towards. There is also a possibility for some of our young men to discern thecalling to live single for the Lord, through the Servants of the Word.

What did the Lord speak to me personally: One morning in my prayer time I sensedthe Lord put upon my heart a desire to search for those that have left community (whomay have gone through a season in their life), I felt the Lord asking me to speak intotheir life and invite them once again to join us in community life. There are some whohave joined other church activities, that is fine, but many have just left for lack of vision, Iam not sure how I go about doing this, but if any of you have the same desire in yourheart to seek after these families, then let’s talk and see what we can do together torespond to the Lord’s direction.

As I pondered every day during mypersonal prayer time, I realised theLord took me out of my comfortzone, over the south pacific ocean, into another hemisphere, overcountries and continent’s to showme the bigger picture. I have trulycome back with a deeper passionand desire to take my callingseriously. To spend more time withthe Chief Shepherd, our LordJesus, I serve a covenant keepingGod and I pray that I will be trueand obedient to keep HIS covenantrelationship to the end.

God Bless, Harry

Sharing from Greg Hall:

…On a personal note, I was greatly inspired by the brothers in my small sharing groupeach day. They came from Maryland, Dublin, Manila, and Pittsburgh. I’ll never complainabout the number of meetings in the Lamb of God after I heard that the brother fromLigaya attended three meetings a week, every week, in addition to the Sundaymeetings.

I was inspired by Geoff Smith, a coordinator from a community in Maryland with only 29adults, who part-time managed a university outreach to a university one hour’s drivefrom home, hosted a gapper i.e. a young person for work and mission experience fromanother community each year in his community, and sent several of his young people asgappers to other communities not just in the USA but also to Europe. All from such asmall base of members. Wow!

Harry and I talked about the main theme saints, missionaries, and martyrs thinking theywould focus on some historic figure with some added scriptures to support theirmotivation vision. However we were both surprised at how personal the reflections wereand reliant to our own lives.

David Mijares a Servant of the Word brotherfrom the Ibero American region spoke onour call to be martyrs, saying that we are allcalled to be martyrs by us accepting the callto be Disciples of Christ. The word “cross”appears 34 times in the New Testamenthowever the word “dying” appears 111times in the New Testament. The disciplescall is to take up the cross daily and inconcrete things. He quoted Mathew Henrycommentary on Luke 9:23 “We must getused to all kinds of self-denial…” This is thebest preparation for Martyrdom. We mustlive a life of self-denial, mortification, putting the world aside; we must not satisfy ourcomfort and desires because it will be then difficult to endure hardship, suffering, fatigueand want for the cause of Christ. We receive our daily affliction and we must adapt to it..and learn to endure hardship. Frequently we find ourselves with crosses in the road ofour duty; and although we don’t have to live drawing them to us, they are out on us, wemust take them and carry them following Christ and getting the best out of them.

This is so different from the present world we live in which calls us to save for ourretirement and go on a world cruise, to enjoy overseas holiday in Bali or the gold coast, and tranquilise away any pain we might experience even to making the decision endingof our own lives when we want to. This world is very different to the life that the Lordcalls each of us to live.

Finally, this conference has lifted my horizons as to what is possible for us as acovenanted people committed to God and called on mission here in this city ofAuckland.

COMMUNITY GROWTH IN MALAYSIA

The Covenanted for ChristCommunity has just concluded amost successful KairosConference. It was a ‘full house’again with over ninetyparticipants. It is a joy to see thepostings on social networkmedia as the youth share theirexperiences, some significantly

life changing. Go Malaysia - we congratulate your hard but very fruitful work for the Lord.Roger and Veronica

GERALDINE, SOUTH CANTERBURY

Roger and Veronica were recently invited to speak to an interest group in Geraldine,South Canterbury, nearly two hours south of Christchurch. They were asked to speakabout their lives in, and the way of life of, the Lamb of God and of the mission works inMalaysia and in the Fiji Islands. With the challenges people now face with a shortage ofclergy and the related necessary rationalization of church services, there is a growinginterest in learning about various lay organizations and initiatives, and in turn this opensopportunities for us to speak about the good things God has done for us. It also opensopportunity for people to connect with us and at the same time challenges us to find howbest to respond to and ‘connect’ such interest. Surely not too daunting a challenge for acommunity of our structures and flexibility and resource!

WELLINGTON WOMEN’S RETREAT – JUNE 10

Yes, Sisters, turn right on VictoryLane and avoid the VictimCrescent! This was the essence ofthe Lamb of God WellingtonBranch Women’s Retreat last 10June at the Home of Compassion.Veronica Foley flew fromChristchurch to give a talk andMhel Caballes discussed aboutthe common weaknesses thatturns into a vicious cycle which wecontinue to do. We also haveguest sisters, Rosana and Tilifrom Auckland and Pogia fromPalmerston North.

The talks and the sharings offered great openings for releasing blockages and gainingpersonal strength and happiness that we should enjoy as God’s children. God loves usso much; there isn't anything that we need to be afraid of when He puts His finger onsomething in our lives. But a lot of times, I know that there is something that God wants

us to deal with, but we are so busy and so constrained by time that we fear letting goand letting Him do what He wants to do with us.

At the end of the session, each of us wrote the resolution we promised to keep and putin a jar and to be burn as an offering to the Lord. The Lord really spoke to our heartsabout some things and brought about fresh healing and deliverance through themessages given. It also rebuilt our self-esteem and empowered us to take control of ourlives thru God’s graces which He promised to pour upon us. It was such a refreshingtime! We all came home with something different! Each of us received a personal touchfrom God.

Steven Homes – A Personal Witness

From what I have experienced in my life the followinghas a special meaning: Psalm 107:8 which says, “Letthem thank the Lord for His steadfast love, for Hiswonderful works to humankind.”

At the end of the 7th form I was on a real high aftertopping the class academically. I enrolled at OtagoUniversity for a law degree. Socially I was also on a realhigh as well. I had the same girlfriend since the 5th formand we had agreed that once I become a lawyer, wewould settle down, have 2 children and live ‘happily everafter. ‘

During that time I was offered to take up speedway riding – I naturally accepted thechallenge and within a few months I was graded in the highest levels. I was to competein a championship race just before university. But then, an accident struck – I knockedmyself unconscious riding at the top speeds. I was unconscious for over 3 weeks andbecame completely paralyzed on the right side of my body and unable to communicate. My parents were told that I would be a wheelchair bound vegetable for the rest of mylife. Before the time of accident Christ did not mean anything for me. But from then on,Christ has taken on a real meaning in my life.

Within 10 months from the accident through Christ’s blessings and grace I was able tore-learn life and find employment once I was discharged from the hospital. Christ is nowreal in my life. I found that true faithfulness results in abundant blessings. Nine yearsafter the accident, I was blessed with a beautiful marriage with Judy and together wewere blessed with 3 beautiful girls who have been and still are such strength to us.

We have found a real truth in 1 John5:7 that says, ‘God is light and in Him there is nodarkness at all…if we walk in the light, as He Himself is in the light, we will havefellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.”

CHALLENGES IN LIVING TOGETHER AS COMMUNITYResource for House Group Discussion by Tom Caballes

Surrendering Our Sexuality to GodJuly 2012

Flee from sexual immorality... Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spiritwithin you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.

So glorify God in your body. [1 Corinthians 6:18-20]

In this sex-crazed world we live in, many Christians struggle with their own sexual purity. Theinternet is rife with pornography. Sex is used widely in all forms of advertising because sex sells. And within us, we have our own natural urges and desires. Did God make a mistake when Hecreated us male and female? No, God has a plan for sexuality for us! God wants us to glorifyHim with our sexuality!

So How Do We Surrender Our Sexuality to God?1. We must understand that God designed us to use our sexuality in the context of a marriagecovenant. God created sex for marriage. Anything else outside of marriage, sex is not beingused for what God has planned and created it for. We must need to offer our sexuality to God forHis plans and purposes, not our own. If you are single, you need to offer your sexuality to Goduntil you get married – if you are called so.2. We need to always guard our thoughts and our hearts. We need to keep our thoughts captivein Christ [see 2 Corinthians 10:5]. And this is a lifetime battle!3. In our sexuality, we must know when and where we are weak. Wax melts before fire. Thereare some battles we face, some we run away from.4. We need to decide to be a one-man woman or a one-woman man. We should leave no roomfor daydreaming, fantasies or other similar things.5. We need to grow in the area of self-control. We need to train and discipline our body so it willserve God, and not its fallen nature.6. We need to develop good brotherly and sisterly relationships with those around us. We needto learn how to relate and treat the opposite sex not as primarily sex objects but as men andwomen whom God wants us to serve and care for.7. If we struggle with an area in our sexuality such as pornography, we need someone who canhelp us to be accountable in this area. Ask an older brother or sister who can help you beaccountable in growing in purity in that area.

Other Scripture References1. Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men asbrothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity. [1 Timothy 5:1-2]2. But flee youthful lusts, and follow righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those who call on theLord out of a pure heart. [2 Timothy 2:22]3. But I say to you, everyone looking at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery withher in his heart. [Matthew 5:28]4. Others: Romans 12:1-2; Ephesians 5: 8-14; Job 31:1.

For Personal Reflection and Group Sharing:1. Have I surrendered my sexuality to God? Is Jesus the Lord of my sexuality? Do I honour the

Lord with my sexuality?2. In what ways am I weak in my sexual purity? In what ways can I grow in my sexual purity?3. Do I need to ask help from an older brother or sister to help me grow in accountability in my

sexual holiness?

Give us a full understanding of this special call on our lifeand the courage and commitment to live it out with the power of the Holy Spirit. We pray for obstacles to be removed so members may join Clusters in our branches sothat we may share our lives more effectively and be better witnesses to Jesus' love andpresence in our neighborhoods. Also we pray for the places we meet in and our own ‘Lamb of God’ Centre that they willnot be damaged or suffer any attack, and they will be places that draw people to knowyou and your unconditional love.Lord, we lift up those who serve with music to lead our worship that they will lead us allto lift our voices in praise of you.We pray for all communications concerning the “Lamb of God” that there will be nodisruptions and we will have a full understanding and meaning of them.Prayer for Marriage, Family and Single Life
