Let’s Get Outdoors! My cup is full this month. There are ever so

many events filling the calendar! First, my oldestgranddaughter is getting married on Mother’s Day.So as soon as all magazines are complete, my familywill be taking it’s first summer vacation of the sea-son and traveling to Jefferson City for her wedding.

The weather has finally been cooperating for ourreaders to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather.

Bikes, sidewalk chalk, kites, andhula hoops have replaced thesnowblower and salt bags on ourporch. This issue features severaloutdoor events to get outside andenjoy.

While packing for our trip, I evenfound the gumption to pack awaythe winter clothes and drag out thesummer boxes. Ohio weather is

pretty fickle this time of year and it was quite a job fig-uring out what to leave in the closets.

School will soon be out and many are planning forgraduations. Spring proms have brought me a new col-lection of photos to cherish.

Above all else, remember Mom on her special day.Check out the ideas on page 6 for ways to give her“time” - a most precious gift all mothers will appreci-ate. Then choose one or two or more places to go,things to do and people to see featured in this issueand let the good ole’ summer times begin!

If you are planning a getaway for a nice weekend, stop and explore one of the other great places to go orthings to do in this issue. So until next time...

Happy Mother’s Day!Kathy Barnett, Managing Editor

ELIZABETHTOWN - EddieMiles will perform in Concert, "ASalute to Elvis & Country Leg-ends” on May 30 at 7:30 p.m. atthe Historic Theatre.

Personally endorsed by originalElvis bandmembers, Eddie Milesis one of the greatest Elvis tributeartists in the country. This inti-mate solo performance is nothingshort of amazing.

In addition to his Elvis tribute,Eddie will also sing the very bestcountry music we have ever hadto offer. Artists like ConwayTwitty & Mel Tillis, are just a fewof the artists you will hear por-trayed.

It’s been a minute since EddieMiles lived in Pigeon Forge andhelped get Memories Theatre offthe ground. In fact, it was morethan 15 years ago he left PigeonForge for Myrtle Beach, S.C.,where he opened the Eddie MilesTheatre. These days, he’s living inBardstown, Ky.

Miles has made a career out ofpaying tribute to Elvis Presley, and he’s earned the respect ofScotty Moore and D.J. Fontana, who played with Elvis ... J.D.

Sumner of The Stamps Quartet ...and country singer Ronnie Mc-Dowell.

Miles says he doesn’t rememberwhen his love affair with Elvisfirst started. But when reviewinghis school yearbook, he recalls list-ing “Jailhouse Rock” as his fa-vorite song.

“As I got older and learned toplay chords on the guitar, Elvissongs were the first ones I tried tolearn, along with country,” saidMiles. “And after I got older andstarted playing in bands and clubsand things, Elvis tunes seemed toget the most requests.”

He first portrayed Elvis at theLincoln Jamboree in Hodgenville,Ky. He was only a teenager at thetime.

“I was there one night, and theyhad a guy get up and do a fewElvis songs,” Miles said. “He did-n’t dress like him or even look likehim, but he got up there and sanga few songs and wiggled around alittle bit, and people went crazy.Well, I thought I could sing betterthan him, and I already had darkhair, so I said, ‘I can do that!’”

He returned for an open mic

night and donned a costume helooks back on now as “horrible,”but the crowd went wild. He got astanding ovation and was calledback for an encore; for a 17-year-old aspiring musician, it was adream. He put together a bandand tried it again, this time at anearby high school auditorium;through savvy promotion andword of mouth, the show sold out,and young Miles pocketedroughly $2,500.
