The Joy of Giving
Philippians 4:10-20
Introduction
“JOY”occurs 20 times
in Philippians
1. Giving revives our CONCERN for
others (v. 10)
“I rejoice greatly in the Lord that you
have renewed your concern for me.” v.
10
A. Plants that seem to die, can
be REVIVED.
Plumeria
“Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to
express it.” v. 10
B. Giving changes our FOCUS from
self to others.
2. Giving teaches us
CONTENTMENT. (v. 11)
“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
I know what it is to be in need, and I know
What it is to have plenty. I have learned
the secret of being content in every
situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in
plenty or in want.” v. 11-12
•Whether rich or poor
•CHRIST is all we need.
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be
content with what you have, because
God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never
will I forsake you’.” Heb. 13:5
3. Giving makes us PARTNERS in ministry (v. 14)
“Yet it was good of you to share in my
troubles.”(v. 14)
A. We have opportunity to
partner with others.
B. Together we can do MORE than we
can separately.
4. Giving pays spiritual
DIVIDENDS. (vv. 17-18)
“Not that I am looking for a gift,
but I am looking for what
may be credited to your account.
I have received full payment and even more; I am amply
supplied, now that I have received....
the gifts you sent.” (vv. 17-18)
A. Giving blesses the GIVER.
B. It is an INVESTMENT in God’s Kingdom
“They are a fragrant offering, an
acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.” v.

5. Giving grows our FAITH in God by
trusting Him (v. 19)
“And my God will supply all your
needs, according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” v.

GENEROUSLY.
The Joy of Giving
Each of you should give what you have
decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion,
for God loves a cheerful giver.
