On August 2, 2015, We had a Kupuna Luncheon
for our Kupuna's of St. Mary's 70 years of age and
above organized by Jackie and Bill Mok and as-
sisted by Laurie Lee, Father Blanchett, Halaki
Ancheta and Kimery Ushijima. Bill and Jackie
Mok graciously blessed all of our Kupuna's to a
seven course lunch an the Mandalay Restaurant.
Thank you to those who helped pay for the lunches
to the parish that could not afford it.
We had a slide slow that showed St. Mary's Church
from decades ago and all of the congregation from
many years ago up until today created by Laurie
and Leland Lee. There even was a picture of Lau-
rie Lee as a child at a church picnic. After our deli-
cious 7 course meal that even included a peking
duck, we had a game to play. Jackie had created a
game that list names of our Kupunas on one col-
umn and a description or brief history of that per-
son in the next column. Everyone present tried to
match the listed description to the correct person.
This was a lot of fun but it was hard to guess the
congregant that was at St. Mary's from a long time
ago but it enlightened us what those Kupuna's had
done for St. Mary's Church.
Our next game we had a Scavenger Hunt Game that
you had to fill in the blocks that best describes that
person at the luncheon. Laurie Lee had donated
chocolate covered fortune cookies along with a few
candies to everyone and Kyle Ushijima had do-
nated orchid plants to all of our Kupuna's. There
was over 60 people that attended and many thanks
to those who donated rides to all that didn't have
transportation to downtown.
It was a fun luncheon that celebrated our seniors
and honored the fellowship we have at St. Mary's.
At the luncheon we got to enjoy each other com-
pany and got to know each other even better.
Our eldest member at our church Kay Okutani had
her son John, her 2 daughters and her son in
law come to celebrate this occasion with her. It
was the first time for Josephine and Silperius' grand
children to taste this type of Chinese cuisine and
Joey said it was good. Mahalo and Aloha to Jackie
and Bill and all that helped out to make this Ku-
puna Luncheon a special day. And all of you that
attended, to just have your presence there was a
memorable time for all of us.

The St. Mary’s Mo’ili’ili Acolytes Go to the Movies!
The movie was a hit with everyone. “Inside Out” proved to be more than a cartoon. The stars of the movie are “feelings”! Five in fact: Joy, Anger, Fear, Disgust, and Sadness. These five feelings take center stage in the life of the main character, an 11 year old girl named Riley. Her life was skating along just fine, until she and her family move to a new place, a new home, a new school, new friends, and life took on some bumps. Suddenly, Riley found herself trying to cope with feeling sad and missing her old friends, school, good family times, and hockey!
“Inside Out” is very imaginative, colorful, and action filled, yet deals with complex emotions. Our feelings express emotional, physical, psychologi-cal, and spiritual highs and lows. Feelings are normal and not to be dis-counted or ignored or judged – just felt. Jesus had feelings too: Jesus was sad and wept, Jesus got angry, Jesus had fear, and Jesus rejoiced.
In the chances and changes of this life there may be a time that we or our friends or family experience loss or hardship or suffering. If feelings become too strong it is perfectly okay and appropriate to talk to someone who has the skills to help us to heal.
Feelings are a part of our human nature and the way that we respond to our experiences and the world around us. In the movie, the feeling representing “Joy” made breathtaking efforts to maintain Riley’s good memories and thereby override her sadness. However, in order for Riley to begin to heal, she needed to allow her sadness to be felt. Feeling sad did not make her unlovable or unwanted. And as Riley shared her feelings with her parents, it unified them as a family and led to greater communication and love.
May you feel blessed today and always.

Acolytes Brandon, Gail, Krislyn, Faith, and Sherylin, ac-
companied by chaperones Tatjana, Evelyn, and Elizabeth
went to see the movie “Inside Out” following the Sunday
Service on July 5th. Good fun and a lot of popcorn was
shared. Our acolytes serve all year round at the altar with
hearts of grace, spiritual maturity, and joy.
