WHY WE MAKE THIS PROJECT?

The reason we are making this online travel magazine, is that we want to show people how beautiful Thailand really is. Most people think about Thailand as having only drugs & girls. That’s really NOT TRUE. Thailand is worth more than that. We have lots of very beautiful beaches, islands, views, markets etc. We also have a very interesting culture. We have chat-ted with some people who think Thailand is not safe but really our country is just as safe as other countries. We also have had lots of people asking for pictures and information about places to visit in Thailand. All of this is why we are working on this magazine. We can say in a short sentence: “We want to show the real Thailand to people around the world”. We think it is working because many people saying that they now want to come and visit our country. We hope you enjoy all our fun hard work.

THIS IS PROUD OF US.

We are the students of the Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut's Institute of Tech-nology Ladkrabang.

EXPERIENCES FROM THE MARKETS

Kwan-Riam floating market. First, we started the journey in the morning because we planned to offer food to monks in the boat at 7:30 am. This is what we’ve never done. After that, we began to survey, take photos and collect mar-ket’s data. We discovered Soi Trok rue. There is many food looks really yummy. Moreover, we found something surprising. It is traders who dressed up like a ghost because group of us went to the place during Halloween festival. Even the market was decorated in Halloween festival. And we have fun to shopping. We also stopped to eat delicious Khanomkrok and Thai tea. It made us relax. In the afternoon, we were departing and going back our home.

Srinakarin Train Market. The day we went to this market was when the rain fell very heavy and many stores were close. But it’s lucky that we could teste “Dim Sum Drama” and “Bameejompalung”. Especially, “Bameejom-palung” it is the signature of “train market”. Although, during the eating time had the power outage and made us unable to see anything in the bowl. But it wasn’t a problem for our eating’s skill. During the sightseeing we took many photos for our work. That you can see all in “PLATOO” magazine.

KMITL walking street. In this the market there are many products to choose from such as food, Thai dessert, Decorations and trees. I had to eat milk “chok chai” It was very delicious. And Thai noodle it was very well. The highlight is the bands plays a song more enjoyable. And the backyard that you can relax with your friend. You can come here by by private cars, buses and trains.

Talingchan floating market. We started the trip at Phrachomklao train sta-tion by 7 o-clock, and we continued by bus and foots until arriving there. There are beautiful flowers in front of the entrance, they made us feel so fresh in the morning. This market has many kinds of food sold along the way. Most of food that’s mentioned above is Thai style like Kanomtuay Kanomtan Kanombabin, cer-tainly their taste is good. Next, we walked to the end of market, we met riverside restaurants which had many menu of meat dishes, so we had a meal together in this restaurant. It’s our excellent time relaxing, because all foods are delicious. Then we went back our homes and keep those memories in our minds.

Chatuchak weekend market. We go to Chatuchak weekend market for relax-ation from study. This place is another choice because it is not too far and keeps you shopping all day. When we arrived there, we walked around and ate some coconut ice crea-muntil evening. This market is so large. It is impossible to walk around the market in a short time. is a very nice weekend market. You can find everything from here. Like modern clothes, various foods, and more. Furthermore, this goods’s price here is so inexpensive that you can bargain with vendors.

Key of this process is having a clear knowledge of

what our publication will be and who we’re targeting it at. We

use InDesign, with a minor step into Illustrator to create the

images. I will tell you step by step.

Step 02 Gather our content through primary and secondary resources before we even start thinking about any design ideas. Often, for us, the research stage is a highly influential part of the process, which regularly determines our initial thoughts and direction of the project.

Step 03 First, set up new document in Adobe InDesign (New>Document). I used a nine-column grid with 3mm gutters and 15mm all-round margins on an A4-size page. A nine-column grid gives you the flexibility of using several different widths for the text. Adjust grid depending on preferences.

Step 04 Set up an A-Master template with rows (Layout>Create Guides) – I used nine rows with 3mm gutters – and apply this master to all the pages. I often prefer to work purely on the baseline grid, but I wanted a minimal and functional layout for this publication that would be bold and dynamic. The master document is useful when setting up page numbers, master guidelines and so on.

Step 05 Decide on the typefaces we want to use and test them on several differ-ent locations – such as the front cover or case study spreads. Colour is another aspect to consider at this stage, as well as the layout treatment. We decided to make our publication in colours full to keep it content-focused. I prefer to create images from Illustrator into InDesign and change the image colour there by se-lecting the image with the Direct Selection tool and choosing a fill.

Step 06 Start laying out pages of publication. Once I have the basic structure of the publication with all the content inserted, I shift things around, experimenting with the pace of the publication and the layout, and really get into the detail of the typography. This is a good time to start playing around and pushing our design further: is the type and leading right? Is it all consistent? Does it flow well? Are there any missing links to the images? Then, save the file. There are several ways to prepare document for print – one of the most common formats for export is PDF (File>Export>PDF). Sometimes might have to package it (File>Pack-age), which means that everything – including all the fonts and files within the document – is saved as a separate file.

Step 01 First identify what type of publication we want to produce: what’s the content going to be, who’s our target audience, ultimately, what are our intentions for producing this publication?

STATISTIC

CONCLUSION

First, “The experience from the markets” remember, “Can see all in PLATOO”. Second, “How to create magazine” remember,“We use InDesign”. Third, “Published” remember, “http://issuu.com/”. Finally, “Statistics” don’t forget, “sixty-six percent by computer”.

From the project, we have a chance to learn many new things and first, time is limited. We have to learn to work systematically for the best work. Learn teamwork, the second, to learn every steps of making the online magazine since we began until we promote to public. And allows us to use the creativity of the individual extremely like taking a photography, searching for data, writing or page making while every members work hard. The third, because the magazine is writ-ten in English, so we have to use our language skills correctly. The fourth, because of making travel magazine, we know many new tourist places which is beautiful. The fifth, on the work time has problems such as travelling, time or weather. We learned how to solve problems that make our work complete. Finally, we hope that our work will be useful to others as well.

1. “Weather” since the day we visited train market, It was raining, we had to wait a while until the rain stops. We can continue working.2. “Limited time” We need to plan well ahead then divided into different parts to do.3. “New experience” Because the online magazine is “new experience” that we have never done before. So we have to understand a lot of data to make this work out well.4. “Lost” Because we go to a place which we had never visited before, then we got lost in sometimes. So we must ask the people around this place.5. “Language”because this online magazine has all content in English. Therefore we need to practice language skills efficiency to work out perfectly.
