F. Chris Garcia – Education

F. Chris Garcia is a highly educated individual. He

possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree, a Masters

degree, and Ph.D. in political science, which he

earned in 1972 from the University of California at

Davis. He is the first in his family ever to receive

any college education, and he is very proud of that

achievement. He is now retired after teaching

political science at the University of New Mexico

for 40 years.

F. Chris Garcia is a 13th generation New Mexican, a

fourth generation Albuquerquean and is a true son

of New Mexico.

He attended high school at Valley High School in

Albuquerque and later forged a 40 plus year career

teaching political science at the University of New

Mexico.

In 2002, he served as the university's President and

in 2009 he was inducted into the Silver Horizons

Albuquerque Hall of Fame.

F. Chris Garcia is a retired professor of

political science after teaching at the

University of New Mexico for over 40 years.

His main avocation now is playing and being

involved in music.

In the past, he participated in dance and

marching bands as well as a country western

band while he was a college, student.

F. Chris Garcia has always had an affinity for singing. In college, he was in various dance and marching bands

as well as a country-western band. After college, he became interested in using his voice as an instrument

and participated in musical theater productions, different choirs, and traditional southern gospel quartets.

He is now retired after teaching for 40 years at the University of New Mexico.

F. Chris Garcia taught at the University of New

Mexico for over 40 years.

He was a professor of political science and served in

a number of important administrative roles for the

University including the Dean of the College of Arts

and Sciences, the Vice President for Academic

Affairs, and the President of the University for one

year.

His wife Sandy and their two daughters all have

degrees from the University of New Mexico.

hiking, biking, and camping with them. Overall,

they enjoy spending time together in the outdoors

while being active.

writing, or playing the guitar.
