After four years at the Gateway Building on the Peoria riverfront, this year’s event has been relocated to The Warehouse on State, a new banquet and event space in the Warehouse District of downtown Peoria. Committee chairman Jeff Doeden led the move to the larger facility, which will allow our guests more room to socialize. State-of-the-art audio and video capabilities should greatly improve the overall experience by making it easier to hear the insight offered by two NCAA head coaches. Following tradition, this year’s featured guests are Bradley men’s basketball coach Brian Wardle and Illinois men’s coach John Groce. Journal Star sportswriters Kirk Wessler and Dave Reynolds are again expected to handle the Q&A portion of the evening. This year’s event has been moved up slightly from its traditional October date and will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The move was necessary to accommodate a request from Coach Groce, who has decided neither he nor anyone on his staff will make any public appearances once basketball practice officially begins. The Warehouse on State is connected to Thyme Kitchen and Craft Bar at 736 SW Washington. They will handle the catering this year, with beverages provided by Baumgarten Distributing. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the program scheduled to start at 7. The annual fundraiser will feature various drawings and raffles, including our $50 cash raffle (with a top prize of $1500) and pair of Bradley Men’s Basketball season tickets. Some seats at the $70 and $60 level are still available, with VIP seating already sold out. For tickets, contact Doeden at 309-453-3633. ISC Website Coming Soon See story on page 3.

Mike Stout MemorialGolf OutingGreat weather led to a great day on June 20 for the annual MikeStout Memorial Golf Outing at Pine Lakes Golf Club inWashington.Twenty foursomes participated this year, and while thosenumbers are down slightly from years past, the smaller fieldallowed us to play the course in under four hours and get to theclubhouse for a great steak dinner and liquid camaraderie.Cash prizes were awarded in two flights. A group led by ISCpast president Jeff Doeden won A Flight for the second time inthree years. Doeden was helped by Bradley men’s golf coachJeff Roche, Matt Geary and Brett Tilley to a winning total of14-under par 29-28 – 57. The team of Paul Maras, Jeff Ott, ToddDavis and Ryan Julius finished one shot off the winning pacewith a 27-31 – 58.Doeden’s group also scooped the only skin in A Flight with adeuce on the 187-yard par 3 No. 3. Long-time ISC supporters Leroy Compton, Kevin Elder andJohn Fleming were joined by past president Bill King to litigatethe winning score in B Flight, a 33-33 – 66. First-time evententrants Tony Olson, Jeff Burdett and Brad Belser – playing outof first-time event sponsor Knuckles Pizza – finished runner-upin B Flight with a 32-34 – 66.Matt Meyer (Closest to Pin on No. 5), Dan McGann (LongestPutt on No. 10) and Matt Geary (Longest Drive on No. 13) tookhome $50 each for their individual efforts.Generous contributions from dozens of ISC supporters allowedus to assemble what many said was the best collection of raffleprizes in memory. And with healthy participation in the raffleand the 50/50 drawing, this year’s event cleared nearly $5,000that will benefit ISC recipients. For next year, we are considering moving the event to a Fridayto boost participation.

Eight Awarded ISC ScholarshipsFor the 20th consecu-tive year, the ISCawarded college schol-arships that now totalmore than $75,000since the program’s in-ception in 1997.

Nearly 80 applicantsfrom graduating sen-iors at Tri-County areahigh schools were re-ceived this year, mak-ing for another diffi-cult job for theselection committee.Scholarship committee chairman Rich Moore has developed adetailed selection process that awards points based on threemain criteria. 1) Varsity sport participation and awards. 2) Aca-demic achievements including class rank, GPA and ACT score.3) Participation in clubs, activities, church, community service, etc. Extra points can be earned by submitting additional infor-mation such as a resume, letters of recommendation or a personalessay.

After all applications were scored, the best were reviewed by thescholarship committee. Four boys and four girls – the largestnumber of recipients in program history -- were selected to re-ceive $1,000 each.

This year’s winners were Nicholas Campbell (Pekin), MeghanGeorgieff (Dunlap), Randy Meneweather (Washington), EmmaRohn (Dunlap), Gabe Sowards (Dunlap), Breanna Springer(Farmington), Shelby Terell (Limestone) and Matthew Thole(Princeville).

The ISC salutes this year’s scholarship recipients and all the out-standing student-athletes who submitted applications. Best ofluck in your future endeavors.

www.iscpeoria.comAt our July meeting, the ISC board of directors approved arecommendation to join the 21st century. We have hired Derek Oddo, a Bradley graduate who is a self-employed graphics/web designer, to design and build a websitefor the club. Our domain is www.iscpeoria.com. The site is currently underconstruction, but you will soon be able to log on to access

information about ISCactivities and events, clubhistory, see photos, view alist of those we serve andrecognition for those whosupport us.But the site will also give usthe capability to receiveapplications from newmembers, grant recipients, scholarship candidates and

those seeking funds for capital improvement projects. It willalso allow us to accept online payment for membership dues, event fees, raffle tickets, Super Bowl and NCAA squares, etc.Basically, the website will allow us to digitize what has largelybeen a paper-and-pencil organization. Our hope is that astonger online presence will help us become better organizedand also be able to utilize various social media platforms toattract, engage and retain new members.

News Flash! Revised drawing date forBradley Men’s Basketball Season TicketsDue to the earlier date of the Coaches Smoker this year, we have decided to draw the winnerof the Bradley men's basketball season tickets at our November board meeting, rather than atthe Smoker on September 28.

We feel this will give more people an opportunity to return their entriesfor this great drawing. Already printed, the raffle tickets you received inthis newsletter say that prize will be drawn at the Smoker. Instead, wewill determine the winner at our November 7 board meeting.

In their second year under Coach Brian Wardle, Bradley opens its 2016-17 season with an exhibition game against Illinois-Springfield on Nov.11 at Carver Arena.

They havenot been removed because the ISC does not want to give upon the chance that they might remit the $20.00 annualmembership cost when they receive the new dues letter inJanuary. Each one of these unpaid former members is on ourmailing list and continues to receive our newsletters. We arereaching out to you in hopes you will consider renewing your$20.00 membership and help us provide Central Illinoisyouth the best sports facilities in the country. When you arefinished reading this, fill out the membership form on page6 of this newsletter and mail it, along with your $20.00check, to the ISC at P.O. Box 5776, Peoria, IL 61601-9998.Thank you.

Las Vegas Raffle winner drawnCongratulations to Joseph Bullard of Washington for taking thetime to purchase a $5 Las Vegas raffle ticket, which allowed himto be the lucky winner of this year’s raffle drawnat our July board meeting. The winner receives their choice of airfareand hotel accommodations in Las Vegasor $800 cash. At press time, we weren’tsure which choice Bullard had made, butwe do thank him for supporting our raffle. Each year we mail three $5 Las Vegas raffletickets to the membership in the SpringNewsletter, which totals about 2,400 mailedtickets. From this process, we receive approximately 250-300entries, and with supplemental sales at the golf outing, usuallygenerate between $1,500 to $1,700 in revenue. Deducting theexpense of the tickets and prize itself, the proceeds are just oneof the many ways we are able to provide financial aid grants toyouth sports organizations in central Illinois. But we would really like to improve on the 10% return rate wehave on these raffles. This newsletter contains two sets of raffletickets – Bradley men’s basketball tickets and free turkeys. Ifeveryone would mail back just one from each set, we would raisenearly $8,000.Support youth sports and participate in these raffles. Because justlike the Lottery, you can’t win if you don’t play.
