THE HIGHER TECHNICAL INSTITUTES
The Italian system of Higher Education consists
of University education, Higher Level Arts and
Music Education (AFAM) and Higher
Technical Education (ITS). To enter any
tertiary-level pathway it is necessary to hold a
Diploma of upper secondary education.
The Higher Technical Education Diploma (ITS
Diploma) is awarded at the end of a course
taking a total of 1800/2000 learning hours and
after passing a final assessment of competences.
ITS pathways are linked to a job-related range
of high technology production areas, divided in
sectorial fields. ITS represent the non-academic
tertiary education and training segment,
meeting the enterprises’ demand of technicians
who possess new and higher technological
competences, and are able to promote
innovation and to manage and control
organization and production processes.
ITS curricula are based on a set of national
standard concerning:
Linguistic, communication and
relational skills, scientific and
technological sciences, economics,
organizational and managerial multi-
level competences common to all the
professional roles related to the higher
technical education courses;
technical and professional skills
specific to each nationally-defined
professional role of Higher Technician;
Consistently with the overall learning
outcomes approach, ITS pathways are
divided into Units, i.e. single courses which
lead to specific set of competences.

match the fast-changing labour market needs.

delivered through tablet PCs in our paperless classrooms.

a realistic environment.

All our courses are held in the Benedectine Abbey of San Paolo d’Argon (Bg), a former
1079 Monastery turned into an Abbey during the XV° century.
All students have access to excellent facilities for classes, self-study and lab work. All
classrooms are WI-FI equipped and laboratories are well-equipped with modern hardware and
software, which are mostly industry standard
Our objective is full occupation for our students. The ITS slogan is very clear: “Our job
finishes when yours is begun”.
