Hello and welcome to the Diwali Heron Times, produced every fortnight for the pupils of North
Curry Primary School by Ms Harris and the ‘Media Club’ Faith, Maisie and Chloe from Shark
Class. In this edition we have a staff interview with Mr B, Real or Rubbish, Children in Need
and much more!

What is Diwali?
Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains
across the world. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and New Year
celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, and light over
darkness.

New York cheesecake
What are your hobbies?
Fitness (running, cycling, strength) and playing the
odd game of golf!
What sport do you like to watch?
I love watching all sports but I best say cricket!!
How do you relax?
I like to relax by taking my dog (Mr Ted) for a walk
and watching re-runs of comedies (Frasier, Only
Fools and Horses, Friends etc)
What is your dream holiday?
Hawaii (I love Hawaii five-0 as well!!!)
What is your favourite children’s book?
The Tiger Who Came to Tea
What pets do you have?
I have an old aged cat (17yrs old) called Fido and a
Cockerpoo called Mr Ted.

What is Diwali?
Diwali is an Indian festival which usually lasts around 5 days. It is celebrated by Hindus,
Sikhs, and Jains across the world. It is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of
good over evil.
When does it happen?
The exact date changes each year, but it falls between October and November. This year
it is being celebrated on Saturday, 14th November.
How do they celebrate it?
During the festival, people decorate their homes with oil lamps and lights called Diyas. It
is not just about the lights it is also about spending time with your family and friends!
They exchange gifts and presents and watch firework displays.

Shark Show and Share Friday 6th November
Shark Class shared their work with everyone, they had been very busy. Star of the week
Jasmine, Jack and Isaac were awarded star of the week certificates and the Head Teacher
certificate went to Mabel.
Octopus Show and Share Friday 13th November
Octopus Class shared their work and presented their work on the Zones of Regulation. Isaac
and Zachary got stars of the week and Elsie got Head Teacher's certificate.
Coconut sweets
1 cup = 120g
Ingredients:
3 cups of desiccated coconut
1 cup of condensed milk
2 cups of icing sugar
Food colouring (optional)
Equipment:
Mixing bowl
Fridge
Wooden spoon
Plate/baking tray
Method:
1. Put the condensed milk into a bowl and then add the icing sugar.
2. Stir carefully until the mixture is smooth.
3. Add the desiccated coconut and mix thoroughly.
4. (Optional) add a few drops of food colouring and stir in.
5. Roll the mixture into small balls using your hands.
6. Place the balls onto the plate/baking tray.
7. Put the tray/plate into the fridge and wait until the sweets are dry.
8. Take the sweets out of the fridge and enjoy.
