The orchestra performed, and a panel of student leaders taught us about Martin Luther King Jr. as we celebrated his life and accomplishments. The audience even participated in a Kahoot (online) quiz game created by students to test their knowledge after hearing the presentation.

What’s Happening at Blue Heron

The Temperance/Good Citizenship Assembly was held on Thursday, January 17, 2019. The orchestra performed, and a panel of student leaders taught us about Martin Luther King Jr. as we celebrated his life and accomplishments. The audience even participated in a Kahoot (online) quiz game created by students to test their knowledge after hearing the presentation. WITS: The Writers In The Schools (WITS) program was a great success this year and after working with published authors from Seattle, our students showcased their writing in a Cocoa House Culminating event on Friday, December 7th. SPECIAL RECOGNITION

ASB News!

The Blue Heron ASB raised over $100 for the Dove house in January hot cocoa sales and will be raising money for Habitat for Humanity through February sales. Join us on February 8th (3:00-5:00) for the BH Hollywood Dance: Dance; Volleyball & Basketball in gym; Movie; Food; Drinks; Music; Hang out with your friends!

Tickets are available during lunch only Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday February 5, 6, and 8.

$5.00 for a ticket to the dance, slice of pizza, cup of soda ($3 with ASB sticker)

ALICE Training On Wednesday, January 9, the BH staff members participated in ALICE training provided by Student Resource Officer, Jeremy Vergin, and the district ALICE safety team. More information will be shared prior to any student presentations/lessons.

PBIS and Heron Bills The BH Positive Behavior Intervention Supports continued in the month of January with students receiving Heron Bills for following schoolwide expectations. Bills can later be redeemed for fun prizes.

BLUE HERON MIDDLE SCHOOL

Early Release Tutoring and Enrichment Program (TEP)  

January 2019  

Dear Parents and Guardians,  

We are very happy to share this special opportunity for your child to participate in Blue Heron’s Early Release Tutoring and Enrichment Program (TEP). The first session will run eight consecutive weeks from January 30 through March 20, 2019 from 12:50 to 2:50pm. Our time together will be divided into two hour long blocks. One will be enrichment/tutoring in math the second is a choice of knitting, weaving or printmaking. Students must have their own transportation home at 2:50 pm. 

We have space for 24 students to participate in this eight week program. Enrollment is filling up quickly, so in order to participate, we will need the following forms completed on or before January 25. Students should turn in the completed paperwork to Melinda Pongrey Rm 603 or Jen Manning, room 703.  

Creative Printmaking 

Each class will use different printing techniques. The last two classes will focus with a 2 color silk screen process in which the participants will make a 10 set series of greeting cards.   Knitting Class 

Students will make their own pair of knitting needles and learn to knit a project of their choosing.  Looms and Weaving Class 

Students will use explore several forms of weaving including using found objects to make a loom and weave a tapestry of their design.  If your child is interested in participating in the After School Enrichment Program at Blue Heron, please fill out the following information and return the form by Friday, January 25, 2019.
