I am especial- ly thankful for Debi and Carol’s determination to challenge not only our painters, but the teachers too. Under their leadership we have had some amazing painting opportunities. Can’t wait to see what got picked. Carol also held a raffle which she plans to use later for chapter, not sure what she has planned but I’m sure it will be fun. We also held a general meeting in which changes to the by-laws were dis- cussed. We will vote on these at the Christmas party. Thank you, Carol for your efforts and presentation. Speaking of Christmas, our seats are booked, tables ready to go and hope- fully raffles will come in as our guests do. The doors open at 11:00. Re- member, we will also have a silent auction for Nancy’s beautiful quilt. See you all there! And lastly, it is almost time for me to leave the position of president, and with that event close at hand, I wanted to take this opportunity to share my thoughts with you on my experience as your president. As most of you know, I’m a retired teacher, and as such it is natural for me to set goals for myself. When I accepted this position, I gave a lot of thought to what those goals should be. I thought about my experiences and observations at chapter and decided on three goals. My first goal was to support the chapter in any way possible. If a question was asked and I didn’t know the answer, I investigated it. Over the last three years there were many times I made calls and looked up information to supply correct information. I feel I met that goal (a teacher response for sure!) My second goal was to create an environment of acceptance and good will. In the past chapter has lost members due to what I call “middle school girl drama”. I feel our chapter has become a welcoming place to be because everyone is happy to be there. We have lost a few members for a variety of reasons, but we have also gained more than I had expected. So, thank you everyone for your kindness and willingness to be helpful to members new and old (not referring to age here). PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It’s almost Time!

It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are real-ly here! Carol Ganzi helped create that holiday spirit with her beautiful Christmas pieces. NEWS from 1st Vice Presidents (Programs)

November class: Christmas Duo What a great head start- we have projects ready for Christmas. We certainly had a busy day with Carol G. teaching our class, chapter meeting, yearend raffle, garage sale and the 2020 project vote. Carol G. did an excellent job guiding our members through two projects. What fun painting Prudy Vannier’s little Santa with his reindeer and a winter scene ornament painted on a music sheet background. Both fun pieces. Voting for projects started our day with the members thinking about what to put on the calendar for next year. We had a great turnout of live and on-line voters (47 of you)! The teachers were very gracious to let us borrow their pieces for the day to give the members an up-front view. If the members weren’t busy enough we had the garage sale items and year end raffle. Lunch was served to a hungry crowd which in-cluded salads, main dishes and desserts. See you all at the Christmas party.

Christmas Party: See you all at the Christmas party. All seats are filled. I hear the center pieces are speculator. Please bring your donated raffle prize.

January 11 class: Chippendale Fruit Tray Starting the new year out painting a picturesque tray full of fruit. Ramona promises to make your fruit look realistic. If you have been timid in painting fruit in the past you could learn techniques to perhaps make those grapes look good enough to eat. Original piece is on a 10 x14 inch tray. You will be able to sign up at the Christmas party for this project. Patterns are available.

February 8 class: Precious Visitor Our final project from the Nov 2018 vote will conclude with a Precious Visitor cardinal being taught by Ka-ren Ortman. The cardinal sitting against a snowy background really sets off the vivid red in the bird. Paint this on a canvas or project piece of your choice. You will be able to sign up at the Christmas party for this project. Patterns are available Additional notes: March 14 class: Mystery Paint In We are taking signups for the ‘Mystery Paint In’ during the Christmas party. The cost is $33.00. If you paid last month, please pay Debi an additional $3.00 since we were not sure of the cost at that time. Your committee has worked very hard and we hear this will be a very special piece. MPI has a limit of 38 painters and is for members only. Carol Voyles and Debi Stivers

SAN DIEGO COUNTY FAIR 2020

NO. I have not lost my marbles. At least not all of them, yet. I am writing to ask you to think about submissions to the San Diego County Fair (2020) now, while you are painting and creating wonderful pieces for yourself or as holiday gifts. Go ahead. Give them away, but with the caveat that the recipient let you “borrow” the piece back for a few weeks over summer so that you can enter it into the fair. Catch my drift? You might also want to think about furniture. Do you have anything in your stash that could be considered furniture? Paint it! Enter it! There were No, None, Zip, Zero, Nada pieces entered into the painted furniture category this year. The Home & Hobby peo-

ple even created a special display area up front and were dismayed when there were no

painted furniture entries. Actually, there were not very many painted entries at all. ☹ Let’s all work on showing San Diego what a wonderful thing tole & decorative painting can be this next time around.

Linda Silvasy, our fearless President, and always a Teacher — held two classes for Beginning Painters specifically for resi-dents at the Mobile Home Park where we meet. There were seven eager painters who came and painted adorable snowmen faces on Ornaments. You can see from the photos that the results were spectacular. Several have requested follow-up instruc-tion to which Linda enthusiastically agreed. They also came by on Saturday to see the projects we were voting on for next year. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can entice some of these fledgling painters to join us on Saturdays some day soon. A BIG Thank You to Linda for this service to our chapter and our craft!!

December is the coldest month of the year as the winter descends in San Diego. The lower latitude location and the proximity to the ocean ensure that the cold is mild at best, and rarely touches freezing temperatures. The average temperature lies in the 48°F to 65°F range, with most days in December touching at least 60°F. That means we can now wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt and socks!

Sagittarius – those born between November 23 and December 21st. Those born between December 22 and January 23 fall under the sign of Capricorn. Effortlessly magnetic, Sagittarians easily attract people with their senses of humor. They're the comedians of the zodiac and infuse all of their conversations with wit and "no bullshit" bluntness. While their witticisms are unmatched, Sagittarians must remember to keep their sharp tongues in check. Though they know a lot, they don’t know everything — and if they're not care-ful, they can come off as pretentious or arrogant.

Capricorns are excellent at taking action and launching initiatives. Capricorn’s can-do attitude leads to suc-cess in pretty much any industry. While they're terrific leaders, they must also be mindful about their worka-holic tendencies. It’s important for Capricorn to maintain a healthy work-life balance and avoid treating their friends and partners like their assistants.

Palomar Heritage Painters General Meeting Minutes

November 9, 2019

A general meeting of the Palomar Heritage Painters was held in the meeting room at the San Marcos Mobile Home Estates.

The meeting was called to order at 1:04 p.m. by President Linda Silvasy. The following announcements were made:

Linda Silvasy, President --- As the Chapter's new president 3 years ago, Linda Silvasy stated that one of her main goals was to try to find new painters. She has organized several beginner classes, and now, some of those students are expressing interest in our classes and projects. She also mentioned a person who was painting rocks as inspiration to others, and there is a program to send them to military members. Please let Linda know if you have interest in participating in this program. Also, a reminder in terms of our Membership drive, that dues are now $20, from the previous $15. This allows us to do more for the Outreach Program for San Carlos Mobile Home Estates. An example was when one of their tables broke, our chapter was able to replace it for them, which was very much appreciated. It was also mentioned that Pam Myers has been dealing with health issues, and has been hos-pitalized.

New Board of Director Nominations --- Teri Hayes, Nominating Chair, stated that October 31st was the deadline for any new nominations for Board positions. The nominations are as follows:

President --- Carol Voyles

1st Vice Presidents, Programs --- Debi Stivers and Linda Silvasy

2nd Vice Presidents, Membership --- Leslie Pilcher and Merle Avery

Secretary --- Linda Eastom

Treasurer --- Susan Schoeppner

A vote was taken by all of the attending PHP members, and all of the Board member nominations were unanimously ap-proved. Installation of the Board members will take place at the December 7th PHP Christmas party.

Standing Rule and Bylaw updates --- Carol Voyles did a presentation, reviewing the various items that are being updated. Among them, are:

Membership dues are changed from $15 to $20 per year. Dues postmarked after January 31st are $25 per year. From the mem-bership dues collected, $5 per member will be transferred to the donation fund of Outreach or Charity.

In the past, the President was granted funds for air-fare, lodging, and registration fee. Since there is no longer an annual SDP meeting, the wording for this now states the President may attend a "function" of the Society.

It was clarified that a Non-member guest may attend classes not more than 2 times each year, and a $5 additional fee will be charged by the Chapter. In addition, non-resident Members of the Society may visit this Chapter and participate in activities, for an additional fee of $5 per class.

On page 3, the listed duties for Elected Officers were changed to a "bullet point" format.

Currently, two people have access to the bank account. A 3rd Board member may be added as an additional signatory at the Presi-dent's direction. All checks over $700 must be signed by both the President and the Treasurer.

Under Committees, additional terms for members to serve as Chairperson of a committee, shall be at the request of the President, and with Board approval.

Under Nominations and Elections, it was added that officers shall hold office for a maximum of 3 years.

Revisions were adopted as of 11/9/19.

The meeting was adjourned by Linda Silvasy at 1:25 p.m

Respectfully submitted,

Linda Camp, Secretary

Convention News! If you have never been to the OKC Painting Palooza Convention held in Oklahoma dur-

ing October, you are missing out on a whole lot of fun. The convention is run by ven-

dors Larry/Cheri Rol and Bob/ Katie Van Horn (Bear With Us) along with a host of helpers. The convention has a theme with this year’s being ‘Tea Party’ and next year’s

being ‘The Fabulous 50’s’. The convention is held at a Marriott Hotel in Midwest City

which has many convention rooms used as class rooms. Besides the host hotel there are five other hotels you can stay at that - just a short walk away within the same

parking lot. This year there was approx. 500 attendees. The convention runs for an en-

tire week with painting classes listed in the OKC catalog. Classes are taught in 4,6 or 8

-hour time frames during the day and evenings with teachers coming from all over the country.

The convention fun starts off with a dinner on Monday night where table centerpieces painted by our famous artists are auctioned off. The attendees dress up based on

the convention theme. The vendors also host a table and provide gifts for each per-

son. We received hand embroidered aprons made by Cindy Makowski (Cindy’s Brush Strokes, LLC). Wednesday night the trade show opens, and the contests begin for

the best booth decorations and the best dressed attendee. Friday night brings us an-

other a dinner along with many raffles and auctioned off art works. The proceeds go to ‘Toys for Tots’ with attendance by Marines at the dinner who show off the auc-

tioned artwork. Give this convention a try you won’t be disappointed, hope to see you

next year. The website is okcpaintingpalooza.com with registration starting February

2020.

I’ve added several new ARTIST sites this month to the Resources section of our website. Some of them should have been on a long time ago (Jane Allen!), but many are new artists who are starting to publish in the e-zines and advertise on Facebook. I’m noticing that some artists are abandoning websites and creating “shops” on the Etsy platform. Anyway, look for the *** NEW **** or *** UPDATED *** tags. Also, one link on the General Supplies page needs highlighting. The site Decorative Painting Store has so many e-packets for so many new artists. I know that E-packets might be hard to get used to, but they are usually a bit cheaper and they are instant grati-fication because you can usually download immediately!! Lastly, many painting resources take only PayPal. Many of us are maybe not comfortable with this payment method, but I’ve never had any problems. It is fairly easy to set up an account. Here’s a video that shows you how.
