The Department of Transport and Main Roads is cur-
rently planning a range of safety improvements
across the South Coast Region to be funded under the
Nation Building Black Spot Program. One of these
projects is at the intersection of Southport-Burleigh
Road (Bermuda Street) and Cottesloe Drive in Mer-
maid Waters.
TMR also plans to improve conditions for
pedestrians by removing non-standard median push
buttons, installing audio-tactile push buttons through-
out the intersection to assist visually
impaired pedestrians, and to remove/trim
vegetation to improve visibility for
pedestrians crossing to the southeast
traffic island.
The detailed design for these works is expected to be
finished by early
November and construction, taking 2-3 weeks, is
scheduled to start in early 2014.
Further information on this project will be
distributed to the local community prior to
construction.
