    experience).

    State - A State (note the capital "S")is a self-governing political entity.The term State can be usedinterchangeably with country.

    Nationalism refers to loyalty anddevotion to a nation; especially asense of national consciousness

    exalting one nation above all othersand placing primary emphasis onpromotion of its culture and

    interests as opposed to those of othernations or supranational groups.

    The term nationalism is generally

    used to describe two phenomena: the attitude that the members of a

    nation have when they care about

    their national identity; and,

    the actions that the members of a

    nation take when seeking to achieve(or sustain) self-determination.

    Patriotism -- covers such attitudesas: pride in its achievements andculture, the desire to preserve itscharacter and the basis of the culture,

    and identification with other membersof the nation.

    Democracy -- refers to agovernment chosen by the people,whether it is direct or representative.

    Communism -- a theoreticaleconomic system characterized by thecollective ownership of property and bythe organization of labor for thecommon advantage of all members.

    Socialism -- Any of various politicalphilosophies that support social andeconomic equality, collective decision-making and public control ofproductive capital and naturalresources, as advocated by socialists.
