Activities are being planned, and on
Sunday, May 5, our Conference
Minister, the Reverend Chad Abbot,
will be with us and will preach during
our morning worship service.
Following the service, we will have
“cake on the lawn” to share with our
whole community!
If you would like to be involved in
planning for our year-long celebration,
please let Pastor Deb know!
In 2019, our congregation will
celebrate 150 years of proclaiming the
Gospel in Angola!

Our Congregation Marks 150 Years!
Members of our Pastoral Search Committee will host
a Q&A session after worship on January 27 in the
Community Room.
Members will explain the Search and Call process that
they will be engaged with this spring, as they review the
profiles of prospective candidates and then schedule
interviews.
Committee chair Bruce Andres says that strict
confidentiality has to be kept about the ”who” … but the
committee can share a great deal about the “how.”
So plan to drop in the Community Room, ask your questions, and stay
informed about the Search and Call process.

in balance. That is what happens in our
families and that is what can happen in
our church family.
So, the more aware we are that peo-
ple might feel more anxious than usual
and that stress levels may be higher, the
better able we will be to manage it and
make it through in great shape.
So let’s become those “kinder and
gentler” people in the next few months
… people who help each other through
this. Don’t easily take offense, don’t
overreact, find a friendly ear to listen …
whatever helps you to stay in balance.
Blessings,

New Year’s Resolution
P A G E 2
We will soon have turned the corner
on a new year, and 2019 promises to be
a busy and exciting year for our congre-
gation!
The search is on for a new minister,
we will celebrate our 150th year as a
congregation in Angola, and Paul and I
will say good-bye to you after many
wonderful and blessed years of minister-
ing together.
So with all this causing excitement –
and some stress! – perhaps our New
Year’s resolution should be that we are
extra kind and extra understanding with
each other.
Stress, whether good or bad, puts a
lot of pressure on a family system, ac-
cording to people who study these
things, and the church operates very
much like a family system.
Imagine if you will, the church family
as a mobile in pretty good balance most
of the time. But, when there is any one
piece of that mobile that is removed, or
a different piece added, the whole bal-
ance can be thrown off and then the
other pieces have to adjust to get back
“Imagine, if
you will, the
church
family as a
mobile in
pretty good
balance most
of the time.”

in” this coming February with these same churches. Jill is looking for ideas for Sunday school for January. David Grim, our seminary intern, will help. They are also putting together toiletry boxes. Younger chil-dren will be making quilted or-naments for the shut-ins of the church.
Music: Lynn Syler reported that she and the choirs are busy working on music for the sea-son including helping with songs for the youth play that will be presented as part of the Christ-mas Eve service.
Lynn’s last Sunday as music di-rector will be the second Sun-day of June. Pastor Deb has asked that we plan a reception following church that Sunday.
Lynn has also begun looking for replacements for both her and Jeanine and asked for Council’s approval to update her job de-scription. Council had no prob-lem with her doing this.
Lynn will also research salaries of music directors at other churches.
Pastoral Relations: Claudia Camargo, moderator, and Michelle Olson, past moderator and chair of the Pastoral Rela-tions Committee, had agreed to ask the following to serve on this committee, based on the 2018 Bylaws: Rod Lewis, mod-
Church Council met on Sunday, December 9, and the following items were among those dis-cussed/approved/reported:
Treasurer: John French re-ported we are down for the month, but still ahead overall annually for this time of year.
He presented a draft of the 2019 budget which shows an overall increase of $6,300 from 2018. A final budget will be pre-sented at next month’s council meeting for approval before presenting it to the congrega-tion for acceptance at the Janu-ary 20, 2019, Biannual Meeting.
Stewardship Report: Bruce Andres reported the results of the Stewardship Campaign which currently reflects a $10,000 increase over last year.
Deacons’ Report: June Julian reported that Reverse Advent is asking for donations of 24-pack crayons and yellow pencils to be collected for local schools whose supplies are running low. Scarves, hats and gloves are being collected for Faith Clinic, Cahoots and Turning Point.
Christian Education: Jill Noyes reported that last Sun-day our kids went tobogganing with youth from Calvary Lu-theran and Holy Family Episco-pal Church at Pokagon State Park. They are planning a “lock-

With the transition from Pastor Deb to a new pastor, it was clarified that this Pastoral Rela-tions Committee will continue to serve, working with Pastor Deb up until the new pastor takes over. At that point, the Pastoral Search Committee will select 4 of their members (one of them being Gayle Newton, who is already on the Pastoral Search Committee) to serve for the new pastor until the end of 2019.
Trustees Report: Gayle re-ported that the follow-up in-spection from the Angola Fire Department was clear after a new outlet was installed near Deborah’s desk in the hall, and new bulbs installed in the exit lights. She and Sue are looking into getting the downstairs fam-ily rest room back in working order and for someone to shovel the sidewalks as needed.
Gayle also announced that the new TV for the back wall will be purchased, and there are funds to have it installed.
Sue mentioned what a great job everyone did decorating the sanctuary for the season.
Complete minutes and financial reports are available in the church office.
