Registered Student NewspaperThe Global Times, is the only newspaper of its kind tobe registered under the RNI Act with more than 90%of the content written by children in the age groupof 5 to 21 years. It’s the first newspaper in India tohave original content written by the children, for thechildren and of the children.

Circulation: 35,000 copiesThe Global Times is a 12 page fortnightly standardnewspaper, with a circulation of 35,000 copies withinthe Amity Universe. It caters to students from Nurs-ery to Post-graduate level through its varied activi-ties that aim to empower the youth, voicing theirconcerns, showcasing their talents and sharing theirworld view.

The Global Times, a futuristic enterprise of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan,

Chairperson Ritnand Balved Education Foundation(RBEF), is not just a

newspaper. It’s a complete program that provides a platform for the chil-

dren to express and share their views on a wide variety of subjects on a

literary canvas. The different pages of the newspaper specially designed

with the target audience in the age group of 5-21 years in mind, aims to

hone their writing skills, drive curiosity for news, inspiring them to go

deeper into issues, reflecting their mindset and views.

fine bouquet of grandmas, moms, auntsand the final by products of the biologicalsystem - the teens and the current youth.

VETERANSBEFORE 1946

Our great or just grandmas are often un-comfortable with youngsters ‘internet cul-ture’, squatting in front of computerscreens, when they spent their lives inGod’s devotion. Born into a war-tornworld, having experienced and participatein the independence struggle, they tend tobe disciplined and domineering. For them,as shared by, Nihal Majithia’s (X) dadima,men are bread earners of the family, whilewomen’s sphere is family and children.They respect reputation in the society. Thegreat women of this generation are MotherTeresa and Pratibha Devi Singh Patil.

BABY BOOMERS1946-64

The numerous off-springs of the veteransform the generation of young Dadis and

Nanis, or the oldest of aunties who tend tobe ambitious, conservative and open-minded. The idea of “superwoman”brewed in this gen that tried to break thebarriers of gender divide. Though they aremore “traditional”, they have adapted fastto the modern tech savvy world. OprahWinfrey and Indira Nooyi belong here.

ECHOBOOMERSGENX:1965-79

After the Boomers, comes the Gen X -“mom-mami-chachi” cohort. They are usu-ally well-educated, as Jaya Sahal, a mother,boasts, “I have doneMA and am very proudof it.” They are self-reliant and traditionallyandmorally strong. They are however, flex-ible towards change and tend to switch theircareer based on “joy of work”.Andwhy not,they are the experienced working women oftoday, with glowing examples like SunitaWilliams, Barkha Dutt and JK Rowling.

GENY1980 – 95

Popularity and extra limelight has alwaysbeen their best friends. The MillenniumGeneration is an achiever, right from Kr-ishna Poonia to Saina Nehwal. Mrs.Shweta Ahluwalia, Teacher, Amity, PushpVihar opines, “When I look at my mom, Ifeel I’m more optimistic, confident, net-

savvy and of course, style conscious.” It isthe era of change; the working woman.

GEN Z1995 - 2009

In this package comes a herd that is natu-rally gifted and bound to give us flyingcars and talking cattle in the future. Theyare not merely women, but ‘westernised’digi-women with no knowledge of a worldsans online social media like FB and Twit-ter. They are habituated to instinctive ac-

tion, instant completion of goals & ofcourse uninhibited behaviour. Says Ran-jana Jain (X), “We can take to streets for asocial cause and sway to the tunes ofSheela Ki Jawani with same enthusiasm.”

CCeelleebbrraattiinngg WWoommaannhhooooddI feel the essence of Woman’s day lies inthe celebration of being a woman and re-specting her. It’s important for a womanto realize her own worth, dignity and po-sition in the society. Women can reach theoptimum growth potential, only whenthey learn to take pride in themselves.

AAnndd tthhee vviicciioouuss cciirrccllee ccoonnttiinnuueess......In the underprivileged sections of societythat are yet to receive the modern day ben-efits, women have resigned to their fate.It is shocking that 75% of girls drop outof school every year to fulfill their do-mestic responsibilities. This results inweak foundation of the society and gener-ations pass without any improvement.

IInniittiiaattiinngg CChhaannggeeMany people have an ardent desire to helpthe needy, but don’t know the way to doso. Understanding this, I have initiated aVolunteer Program to mobilize the massesand to facilitate linkage between thosewho wish to help and those who needhelp. In order to make women financiallysecure, I have organized self help groupsand co operatives that can help them col-lectively negotiate and build micro enter-prises. In addition, I have established 120Suvidha Kendras, educating them aboutlegal provisions and rights.

TThhee ggrruueelliinngg jjoouurrnneeyyI believe it is easy to make a road, but dif-ficult to make people walk on it. There-fore, pursuing my dreams was notcomplex, but challenging. I faced skepti-cism from my colleagues who doubted my

strategy and vision. I’m still struggling tocope with the problem of forced philan-thropy as people help needy only forvested interest or fame. Instead of allevi-ating poverty, we justify its existence.

UUttooppiiaann ddrreeaammI feel girls value opportunities much morethan what boys do. Encouraging girls tocome forward and do their best can trig-ger the progress of the nation manifold.Ideally, in a family, household responsi-bilities should be equally divided betweenthe husband and the wife, so that such val-ues are inculcated in their children too.

BBeelliieeff iinn wwoommeenn’’ss ppootteennttiiaallIt’s necessary to involve women in everynational project to ensure its success. Allmy programmes are in partnership withcivil society organizations, women volun-teers, NGO’s, PSUs and CSR’s, whichhelp in developing trust and pushingwomen into the mainstream.

FFiilliiaall bboonnddssI have inherited the passion for socialservice from my forefathers. My grandfa-ther, a freedom fighter; father, a prolificwriter and politician; and mother, ateacher all have helped me to think differ-ently, making impossible possible.

SSiiggnniinngg OOffffMy message for kids is that communityservice should come from heart and nothead. It’s not the certificates or grades thatyou get for social service which count, butyour efforts to empower them that re-sound. G T
