The GCS Newsletter UPCOMING ACTIVITIES December 2016 - Issue 84 Send us your comments on the GCS Newsletter at [email protected] 9 January Commencement of Lessons 14 January Starry Night Auditions 23 January UCAS lecture for students 24 January UCAS lecture for parents 27 January General Knowledge Quiz Competition 2 December The Current Affairs Society organises a lecture given by Mr Costas Mavrides (MEP) on the crisis within, and the future of the European Union. 3 and 5 December Christos Avraam of Form 4 wins the Boys Doubles and plays in the Boys single Quarterfinals in the Malta Tennis Europe Championship. He also wins the Boys single U16 and the Boys Doubles U18 in the Cyprus Tennis Federation Master Cup. 5 December Form 7 students attend a lecture on road safety. 6 December The PlayAct Club stages an English production of Edward Scissorhands at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre. The story is a non-traditional Christmas tale of a most unusual character - an artificial beautiful creature called Edward. The School Management congratulates all the members of the Club as well as all the staff involved especially the teachers in charge, Mrs Frangesca Pieri, Mrs Vaso Koukounidou, Ms Stella Lambis and Mr Andreas Shianios.

7 DecemberThe Volunteers Club hosts a Christmas event, during which students and staff from the School for the Deaf join GCS students and their teachers in various festive activities.

7 DecemberThe School organises the GCS annual Christmas Bazaar, all proceeds of which are donated to charity.

8 DecemberThe members of the PlayAct Club watch the play «Οι Πεταλούδες Είναι Ελεύθερες» staged at the Latsia Municipal Theatre.

14 DecemberStudents and staff attend Christmas Church Service at St Sophia Church in Strovolos.

15 DecemberStudents of Form 7 participate in an Economic debate between students of various schools, the Minister of Finance, Mr Harris Georgiades and the CEO of the Bank of Cyprus, Mr John Patrick Hourican.

19 DecemberThe winners of the Menu Problem Competition organised by the Maths Club, are presented with their awards: Team A: Constantinos Hadjigregoriades, Constantinos Aspris, Marios Christoforou and Stephanie Leontiou. Team B: Ivi Patrickiou, Christie Kontou and Dimitris Kassianides.

20 DecemberThe members of the Volunteers Club collect Christmas Gift Boxes for children in need.

20 DecemberForm 7 students sing Christmas carols during an afternoon festive activity organised for the children of members of the staff.

21-22 DecemberAll students and staff attend the School Christmas Celebration held in the auditorium. Teacher-in-charge: Mrs Eleni Michaelidou.

21-22 DecemberThe students of Form 7 organise this year’s DIY Christmas Variety Show.
