    Respect, or

    should I say

    lack of it,

    seems to be

    all Ive been

    hearing about

    on the

    Internet. From friends, family and

even strangers, my emails havebeen loaded with complaints.

There are claims that we are not

respectful of our President and that

many of us are being disrespectful

of our teachers, our elderly, even

    students complain. The list goes

    on and on.

    In DAR, we are most

fortunate to have a society whose

foundation is built on respect. Our

    threefold purpose of patriotism,

    education and historic preservation

speaks directly to our values. We

    place principles before

personalities. We put a lot of

    attention on how we conduct

    ourselves, personally and

    organizationally. We call it

    Protocol.When I first became your

    Regent, LeMira Parks, our State

Regent at the time mailed me the

DAR platform on protocol, that I

keep handy on my desk. Protocol

    is defined simply as good

manners. We respect each other as

    Daughters of the American

    Revolution, the offices we hold

and roles we play as fellow

human beings, and as always as

    Gods children. Personally, I think

that is a defining quality of our

    membership. We conduct

    ourselves with grace, dignity, and

with respect for others. As you all know, our

    organization is pyramidal in

    structure with the top executive

    officer, our President General,

    many Vice-President Generals,

    many more State Regents, and

    even more Chapter Regents. If

you ever have the opportunity to

    attend a Continental Congress in

Washington D.C., you will see, on

a grand scale, how beautifully and

    orderly the organization operates

    using protocol. At our Mideast

    District Meeting and our State

    Conferences, I am continually

proud of the grace and dignity we

    conduct ourselves using protocol.

    The efficiency level of our

productivity always amazes me!This spring, we are

    looking forward to another

    instructive Genealogy Workshop.

    Gail Grich and Peggy Strelinger

are planning for it to be held at

The Church of St. Michael and St.

    George on Saturday, May 7th.

    Membership Chairman, Eileen

    Hacker will be hostessing our

    second Spring Membership Tea at

her home on Saturday, April 9th.

    New and prospective members will

learn about DAR from your Regent

    and Board members. Our Mideast

    District Director, Susan Russ will

be joining us at our April GeneralMeeting where we will be honoring

    Leon Zickrick with the DAR

    Community Service Award for his

    outstanding contributions,

    especially that of beautifying our

    city. At our Patriots Paths

    Ceremony in Millennium Park, Ma

21st, we will be recognizing and

honoring those who fought in the

Mexican War. I want to thank Milli

Simon for the outstanding job that

she is doing chairing both of those

    events. Missouri State Regent,

Donna Nash, will honor us with he

    attendance at our May General

Meeting, when we will install our

    new officers for the 2011-2012

term. I know you all will not want

to miss that!See you in the Spring!

    Respectfully Yours,

    Maripat Monterubio, Regen

How many people do you come into contact

with each day? Supermarket? Medical? Dental?

    Library? Department Store? Church? Other

Organizations? Count them up at the end of the day

and you would be surprised at the number of various

people you meet daily. What if you would mention to

each person that you are going to or coming from or

have been to a fascinating DAR Meeting?

Getting the word out about DAR to everyone

you meet daily is a terrific method of introducing

people to DAR. Do not keep DAR a secret!!!

Promotion of DAR can be accomplished

easily by seizing every opportunity to offer a few

enticing facts about why DAR would offer an insight

into their past and interesting programs that we offernow to provide enjoyment.

Has your chapter created a chapter fact sheet

or brochure? Prevail upon a chapter member who can

use her creativity to produce an eye catching brochure

that will include information about NSDAR,

MSSDAR and your chapter's history and goals.

Chapter meeting times and a contact email should be

contained in the handout. If the slightest interest is

shown it is imperative to contact the interested

    person as soon as possible.

Seize the moment. Make sure you have DAR

information in your handbag to give to any and

everyone you meet so they can enjoy DAR

    membership.

How many people did you encounter today?

If you saw 20 people every week and gave them

verbal DAR information and followed it up with a

chapter brochure and if they seemed interested just

think how many people you would reach? So "Start Spreading The News! Tell about

DAR on a daily basis and let us know your results.

    MSSDAR Commission Chairman

A NOTE FROM THE MSSDAR CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT AND
