Indonesia is one of the three countries of megabiodiversity in the

world, which has various species of food crops and traditional

medicine.

There are over 100 species of plants grains, sago palm and

tubers producing flour and sugar. More than 100 species of

legumes as a source of protein and fat, 450 species of fruit

as a sources of vitamins and minerals, 70 species of herbs

and various spices, 40 species of beverage plants and 940

species of traditional medicinal plants (by Robin, 2007)

Indonesia's tropical forests is estimated at 143 million hectares,

which is a place of growth from 80 percent of medicinal plants in

the world.

Up to 2001 there are at least 2.039 species of medicinal

plants from the tropical forests of Indonesia.

The lowland tropical forest have the most medicinal plant

species that are 772 of 2,039 species (by Zuhud, 2009).

Tesso Nilo National Park is the lowland tropical forest which

have more biodiversity.

Andi Gilison from the Center for Biodiversity

Management (Andi Gilison, 2001) proved that Tesso

Nilo has 218 species of vascular plants in a plot of

200m2.

There are 22 villages located around the National Park

Lubuk Kembang Bunga is one of the villages in the

buffer zone of Tesso Nilo National Park where the

inhabitants take forest product around the National

Park.

Traditional healers in the village of Lubuk Kembang

Bunga take plants from the forest to treat disease. Study of medicinal plants is one of the development

potential of biodiversity.

1. Tesso Nilo National Park by Decree of the Minister of

Forestry No. 255/Menhut-II/2004, dated July 19, 2004

decide of the changes function of limited forest in the group

of Nilo forest in Pelalawan and Indragiri Hulu Distric, Riau

Province with area of ± 38,576 acres for the area ofNational Park.

2. On October 15, 2009, the status of Tesso Nilo National

Park finally change with the Decree of the Minister of

Forestry No SK. 663/Menhut-II/2009 on Change Function

For Limited Production Forest on Forest Group Nilo Tesso

with territory area of ± 44.492 acres located on PelalawanDistric, Riau Province into expansion Tesso Nilo National

Park. Until now, the area of Tesso Nilo National Park

became ± 83.068 acres

History

As you can see from the map, Tesso Nilo National Park is situated

in Riau Province

The aims of this study was to determine the

species of medicinal plants (by type of species,

habitat, habitus, part of the plant and the

disease) in the buffer zone of Tesso Nilo

National Park and has been used by villagers

Lubuk Kembang Bunga.

Results of study can be used as input into the

management potential of medicinal plants in the

Tesso Nilo National Park (To monitor the

medicinal plants in the buffer zone, thus

minimizing the negative impact caused by the

use of the biodiversity of the site)

The research was held in November 2011.

This study was carried out in the buffer zone of

Tesso Nilo National Park., the village of Lubuk

Kembang Bunga.

The method used is a survey method with

purposive sampling.

Data collection is done by interviews from 5 the

traditional healers and 25 patients .

Observation direct of medicinal plants (with

respondent) in the field.

Tabulation and descriptive analysis

The result of research was recorded 61 species of medicinal plants while the result of survey in field was found 38 species of medicinal plants (classifield in 29 family), 9 species have not been identified and 16

species was not found.

1. The villagers of Lubuk Kembang Bunga living in thebuffer zone of Tesso Nilo National Park have utilizingplants as medicine. Utilization of medicinal plants byThe Traditional Healer in the village of Lubuk KembangBunga was recorded 61 species from forest and gardenhabitats.

2. From the survey and field observations was found 38species (classified in 29 family), 9 species have notbeen identified and 14 species have not been found inthe field.

3. Most of the habitat of medicinal plants from the forest(22 species), forest or garden (3 types), garden (11species) and the place of open (2 species).

4. The medicinal plants that have been identified werethen grouped were grouped into 14 species of tree,6 species of perdu, 8 species of herbaceous plants,8 species of schrubs and 2 species of liana.

5. Recorded was 17 diseases that can be classified intoexternal disease (teeth, eye, thrush and skin),internal disease (fever, malaria, chills, stomachdisease, gastritis, breathless / lungs, circulatory ofblood), non-medical disease (hallucination) andother diseases (bloating, tired, disease of womenand babies).

medicinal plants in the buffer zone of Tesso Nilo

Park.

Pharmacological testing of the medicinal plants that

have been used.

Conservation efforts of the medicinal plants related

to the use of part of the root.
