Redecorating is the single most effective way to give your home amakeover. As well as refreshing yourhome, altering your colour scheme canboost your mood. Colours can makeyour rooms inviting, calming, orsophisticated, depending on your choices. When choosing your main colour, thinkabout the atmosphere you want to create in a particular room. In general, light or cool tones give the impressionof airy space while warm or darkshades make a room cosy and inviting.A monochromatic or ‘tonal’ scheme iseasy on the eye, stylish and tranquil. This means you use a single colour, butin varying tones. A good balance is tochoose three shades. Use the deepesttone near the floor and the lightest onthe ceiling to make the room appear more spacious. This scheme can look a little bland, so use texture and
patterns to lift the design. Putting wallpaper on a signature wall is oneoption. Perhaps make one of theshades a more intense or deepercolour. Use splashes of a bright colourin soft furnishings, rugs, art or otheraccessories for emphasis. So, get out your paintbrushes, gatherplenty of swatch cards and decide onthe mood you’d like your room to convey to revitalise the ambience ofyour home.

With children settled back in at school;how do we deal with head lice, colds,cold-sores, warts and verrucas withoutresorting to pharmaceuticals?
Head lice are transmitted from head tohead contact and females lay theireggs (nits) close to the hair shaft.Natural insect repellents and insecticides help destroy lice withoutthe use of chemicals. Examples wouldbe essential oils of rosemary, lavender, tea tree and eucalyptus. It’s importantnot to use essential oils undiluted soalways seek professional advice onappropriate preparations.
While the immune system is developing it seems that some childrenhave an endless cold, cough, runnynose or cold-sores. Many people trustechinacea, a proven support for immunity. There are alternatives available, protecting the most overused herbs like echinacea frombecoming endangered. Elderflowerscool the body by encouraging a sweat, are immune stimulant, anti-inflammatory and anti-catarrhal so canbe useful for temperatures, infections, colds and sneezes. Elderberries havebeen proven to be effective against theflu virus and lemon balm against coldsores! Thyme, coltsfoot and licoricehave expectorant and soothing
properties which can help ease acough.
Swimming lessons may mean verrucas; and warts can be picked upmore frequently during childhood. Both are caused by the same virus andan efficient, mature immune systemwill deal with the problem itself.Persistent outbreaks are best treatedunder consultation; the Herbalist cancreate an individual prescription considering the patient’s unique presentation. Simpler cases mayrespond to topical use of preparationsmade from arbor-vitae which is anti-viral or greater celandine (only available via herbalists) that contains aprotein dissolving enzyme whichbreaks down warts, or simple garlic anage old anti-viral remedy.
I welcome informal, no obligationenquiries. Please call using the detailsbelow should you need advice onpreparations containing the herbsmentioned here.

Find out how by contacting us:Working Wardrobe CICUnit 7 Shearway Business Park,Shearway Road, CT19 4RHt:07939087787e: [email protected]: www.working-wardrobe.com
Working Wardrobe, a locally basedorganisation, is working to help tosolve the catch-22 that confronts disadvantaged women trying to enteror re-enter the workforce: without ajob how can they afford a work suit;without the skills and confidence howcan they get an interview and withouta work suit how can you get a job?
The aim of Working Wardrobe is towork with disadvantaged womenreturning to or entering the workplaceand to give them the skills and confidence they need to improve theirchances of getting a job. Once theyhave a letter confirming an interviewWorking Wardrobe supplies the womenwith a work suit which is then theirs tokeep.
While working alongside Governmentagencies on ‘Back to Work’ projects, itbecame apparent that the womenattending the courses had a desire toget back into employment. Howeverdue to lack of available money (mostwere on benefits or managing a verytight weekly budget) the practicality ofhaving enough spare funds to purchase a suitable outfit for an interview prevented many womenfrom applying for a job.
Working Wardrobe goes further thanany other ‘Back to Work’ project byoffering a complete package of tailoredworkshops focused on developingwomen’s confidence and interviewskills. This is then followed by a one-to-one mentoring scheme which islinked to the Suiting Programme wherewomen are then offered a work suit.An interview suit is more than justclothing; the suit helps to give womenthe self-esteem they need to feel theyhave the confidence required to attend
an interview and get the job.
If you would like to find out moreabout the work of Working Wardrobe,or find out how you can help, please doget in touch using the details below.
A recent sucess story of the organisation is that of three youngwomen from YWCA West Kent YoungWomen's Centre who have been royally treated in preparation forattending the Queen's Garden Party. They were nominated to representYWCA in recognition of their achievements, at the centre. They allattended ESF (European Social Fund)funded programmes. The youngwomen attended programmes at thecentre including young parents' support and Basic Skills. They havedeveloped immensely throughout theyear, increasing in confidence, gainingemployment and commencing training.

How do I find out more? For more information, support andadvice, telephone The Harris Foundation on 0845 388 1771 or see the web site: www.harrisdyslexia.com
What is The Harris Foundation? The Harris Foundation is a charitable,Social Enterprise that was formed tohelp and assist those with ReadingDifficulty (dyslexia) by using specialvisual filters (lenses) to reduce distortions and improve comprehension. What are Harris Lenses?Harris Lenses are ophthalmic lenses ofthe highest quality that are prescribedby a specialist practitioner from a 16lens diagnostic set. They do not needto have a prescription from an opticianincorporated although they may ifrequired.
Are the lenses coloured?Harris Lenses aren't coloured but theydo have a neutral appearance, muchlike sunglasses. A Harris Foundationpatient wears the spectacles wheneverrequired – indoors or out!
How do they work?Harris Lenses re-synchronise neurological information sent from theeyes to the brain through a processthat Dr David Harris, inventor of HarrisLenses, calls “dynamic binocular synchronisation”. When prescribed, the result is animprovement in the ease of reading, resulting in significant increases inreading speed.
Can my doctor prescribe them?Harris Lenses are not generally available through the NHS althoughdoctors may refer patients to theFoundation.
What about my optician?Opticians who have undergone thetraining may prescribe Harris Lensesand they may incorporate the
spectacle prescription that is normallyfound during an eye examination. It isextremely important that an eye test is performed before a Harris Foundationtest. This is free through the NHS andall children and many others receivethis. If in doubt, ask your optician!
Have the lenses undergone scientific investigation?Yes, they are clinically proven over thelast 15 years with the results publishedin peer-reviewed journals.

Making reading easier
Could your Child Benefit from an Increase in Reading
Ability of over 200%?
There have been many claims regarding methods of curing dyslexia which have no
scientific evidence and often costing thousands of pounds. Dr. David Harris insists
that there is no cure for dyslexia which he firmly believes is not an illness and is
neurological in origin, a stance which is now widely recognised by other eminent
researchers including Professor John Stein of Oxford University.
Real Help is Now Available!
With up to 20% of the population suffering from reading difficulties, the importance
of finding ways to fully realise the academic and career potential of our children is
paramount. The alternatives can be devastating, with a significant number of
prisoners diagnosed as dyslexic, however 35% of entrepreneurs are dyslexic too,
including Richard Branson which indicates that they find ingenious ways of coping
with this disability, some more socially acceptable than others.
Dr David Harris has been researching ways of helping children with Dyslexia and
adults to overcome reading and writing difficulties since 1996 and his Harris Filter
technology has been demonstrated to achieve dramatic and immediate increases
in reading ability.
Many that he has treated achieve an
increase of up to 250% in their Rate
of Reading.
It is not unusual for a child or their
parents to burst into tears of joy as the
page stops moving around for the patient
and they are able to see a page of words
in the same way that the rest of us do.
If you or your child would like to be
tested for the Harris Filters
please contact the Foundation through
the National helpline

It’s been gathering quite a followingsince it made its debut at the GenevaMotor Show in 2008 and it representsa huge leap forward for Peugeot. Why? Well, this Peugeot has Audi’sdominant TT well and truly in its sightsand with the marketing might of theFrench firm behind it, and sensiblepricing, few would bet against its salessuccess. It helps that the RCZ looks stunningtoo. From the front, the car has thefamily Peugeot nose – like a 3008, orother generic Peugeot. But, walkaround to the side and it just gets better and better. Squat, aggressiveshoulders, a beautiful profile and aroof with two gentle bumps – theyreally have got this car spot on.Inside it’s a comfortable, pleasantplace to be with chunky controls, supportive seats and lots of visibility. The only real standout bad point in thecabin is the somewhat flimsy plasticwhich covers the transmission tunneland flexes nastily when you releasethe handbrake. The rest of the car
though has some classy materials. Thetwo silver strips on the roof are aluminium and there are high-gradeleather coverings inside (in the GTmodel) both combining to give the RCZan expensive, upmarket feel. The entry-level model with a 156bhp,1.6-litre petrol, is just £20,450, risingto £25,050 for the 200bhp range topper. Compare this to the Audi TT,which starts at £26,370. We tried the petrol GT model with156bhp petrol. This level gives buyers19-inch alloys and leather. Also included as standard are heated frontseats, front and rear parking aid, auto-dipping mirrors for reversing, auto lights, come home lighting andauto wipers. Performance figures arenot the most exciting with a 0-60mphtime of 8.3 seconds and a top speed of133mph. Having said that, it still push-es on pretty well. There’s good feelfrom the front wheels and in the righthands you can still have a bit of fun. However, it is at lower speeds andaround town where it really excels. What’s more, it’s here buyers can showoff those stunning looks to pedestrianswho’ll stand there open-mouthed.Peugeot dealers must be feeling rathersmug right now. They’ve got a car withthe looks of a premium German manufacturer for a relative bargainprice – and in these cost-consciouseconomic times, that’s a real winner. The only problem we can see is availability – Peugeot doesn’t anticipate a problem, but did tell us 30per cent of this year’s UK allocationwas already sold. And that’s before themore powerful 200bhp has got here. Our advice? Get your order in quick.

I like the idea not only of a tiger trying to bake, but of that tiger succeeding
magnificently. Where are the tiger's stripes? You may ask and rightfully so. Maybe he
stored them like buried treasure. Maybe he only wears them for special occasions.
I don't know....

Having moved into our offices in Rendezvous Street
we had the second year of a film festival, a summer school and editing to be completed
on a large commission from the Aspinall Foundation.
This summer was probably the most frustrating, but most satisfying period in
our short 3 year history. For the 2nd year of our
Freedayz Film Festival we programmed 7 free film screenings. 2 at the Old
amusements arcade on Tontine Street, 2 films at
Googies cafe bar and 3 films at Folkestone Amphitheater.
The festival was well received and had a great
family atmosphere and packed audiences. We are now planning Freedayz 2011
Our summer film-making
workshops produced 5 films. We hosted the WRAP parties at our new offices.
Now we are looking forward to working with
anyone who wants to make films. We have courses for children, teachers, parents,
youth groups, community groups

Can’t remember your new neighbour’sname? Forgotten where you put yourdiary? Don’t worry, here are some tipsto help you improve your memory.
1) Exercise your mind - Just as ourbodies need to be active to remainmobile, our brain must be challengedin order to keep it functioning: learn anew language, take up a musicalinstrument or try doing Sudoku puzzles, crosswords and brain-teasers.2) Reduce stress – Ever found thatyou’ve got so much to do, you simplycan’t remember everything? Prolongedperiods of stress and anxiety can havea detrimental effect on your brain. Byfinding just a small window each dayto relax, preferably before bed-time,you’ll do wonders for your body andmind!3) Exercise – We all know that a little
bit of activity goes a long way, but regular aerobic exercise also helpsimprove our thinking by boosting circulation to the brain – which canalso ward of memory loss associatedwith aging. 4) Improve your diet – To maximisehealthy brain functioning, regularly eatfoods which contain antioxidants –such as blueberries, spinach and broccoli - and omega 3 fatty acids, which are found in fish.5) Take mental pictures – Sharpen upyou observational skills and you willfind you remember more: look atfaces, places and really concentrate onremembering details which you knowyou’ll have to remember.6) Recall – we remember by rehearsing. The more times you saysomething, write it down, see or hearit, the more you’ll remember.
