The Fisheries Data Interoperability Working Group. The proposed
The objective of the Fisheries Data Interoperability Working Group (FDIWG) is to devise a global data exchange and integration framework to support scientific advice on stock status and fisheries management that builds on fisheries data

Expected key Impacts of the Working Group
Promote existing facilities for data sharing on capture, landing, effort, size classes, vessel monitoring system and production through sharing of structural data denitions. This promotion will be supported by demonstrations of live examples of data sharingFacilitate access to data by recommending standards and assist in adoption of tools and facilitiesRecommend existing data toolsRecommend solutions for controlled vocabularies and mapping between local, regional and global vocabulariesIdentify synergies with other working groups and existing data networking initiatives
Reduced costs related to reuse of data.Increased adoption of existing common standards, vocabularies and best practices related to sheries data management with new communities, such as regional projectsIncreased general awareness about research open data and interoperability standards among the sheries organizationsEnhanced access, discovery (metadata) and reuse of sheries data across specic domainsFisheries data provenance attribution and lineage expected to foster legal interoperability and reproducible scienceNew opportunities for Data Structure Denition (DSD) and ontology based knowledge management in the sheries sector
A common and scalable framework for sheries data managers & scientists
Concepts & methodology to describe, restructure and publish sheries data
Flexible and portable solutions which can be deployed on e-infrastructures with Virtual Research Environments (VRE)
Compliance with internationally recognized standards for metadata and data (ISO TC 211 / OGC, TDWG / GBIF, SDMX..) to foster interoperability and reusability
Delivering standard services (Data discovery, Harmonization and Access) implemented with tools widely used by the community (eg Geonetwork, Geoserver, R programming language / RStudio Server) and underlying APIs
A global data exchange and
integration framework
“R programming language as orchestrator to manage metadata, data complying with OGC standards and controlled vocabularies: the case of Tuna Fisheries”
19th of September from 11:30 - 13:00 local time, Room: Manseld 10.This second meeting will focus more on the description of a technical framework (R programming language) set up to comply with OGC standards for metadata, data and access protocols.
1. Short overview of RDA FDI working group, the activities, and presentation of co-chairs2. Overview of the work accomplished, according to the work plan3. Presentation of the FDI workow for metadata cataloguing, data access & discovery, including shery data vocabularies, methodology and tools (R packages)4. Synergies establishment/strengthening with other RDA groups and user communities (e.g. marine domain Beyond sheries, geospatial data, biodiversity, agricultural data, Virtual Research Environments, etc.)
