THE EYEPOSTER ANALYSIS
Connotation – the main image if of a eye with fingers coming out of the
eyes.
Denotation/ Main image – there is a image of a single eye which is light brown, you can see fingers coming
out of the eye which may imply someone trying to get out of
something. The eye may play a key role in the movie as it takes up a large
amount of the page, it may suggest that the person has certain views or flashbacks about things which are
going to occur. The main image may be an eye as it refers back to the
name of the film which is “the eye”. Having an eye as the main image is not usually seen on a horror poster,
by doing this it will appeal to the audience more as they are not used
to seeing film posters of this sort
Colours – the colour scheme for this poster is white, black and a small
amount red. It is unusual to see white being used for the main colour on a
horror poster as it is unconventional. The colour white creates suspicion as it is a calm colour but by using it on a
horror poster it goes against the normal connotation of the colour. The colours black and red have also been
used as they are typical horror colours, by doing this it will allow the
audience to recognise the genre of the poster even though it is unusually
coloured.
Mise-en-scene – the mise-en-scene for this poster is really simple as it
is just one single image unlike other posters which I have looked at that have backgrounds. Looking at the
image it looks like the lighting which has been used was near to
the models eyes as underneath the model the skin starts to fade away as the lighting is bright, this may
have been done so that the audience literally only see the eye to signify the importance of it to
the film.
Text /typeface – the typeface for this poster is extremely simple as it just
straight, for this poster I think it works well as the poster overall is very
simple. The masthead is split into two sections as “the” is in a very thin font and “eye” is in a bold font this is done to show the importance of the “eye”. The star text “Jessica Alba” has been
included as if the audience were to see the name of a established
actor/actress they would be more likely to go out and watch the film. The
website of the film is located at the bottom of the poster, this is included
so that the audience go on the website and few some insight about the film
which will excited them further about the film. A release date for the film hasn't been included on the poster
this will further excited the audience towards the film. Lastly the credits is the smallest text on the page as it is
the least important part of the poster.

Target audience/ Genre – the target audience for this film are young
adults aged 15+ who enjoy to watch horror films. The sub-genre of this
film is a psychological thriller, this is conveyed by the simple image and
typeface.
Rule of thirds has been challenged once again as the main features of
this poster isn't on the left third, this may have been done as the poster
itself is already unusual so it will instantly attract the audience so
conventions don't need to be followed to make the poster
noticeable.
