The Epiphany of Our Lord (Cycle A) A Sunday Reflection By Fr. Luis

The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of Israel, Son of God and Savior of the world. The great feast of Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men (magi) from the East, together with his baptism in the Jordan and the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee. The Lord presents Himself in a glorious way and humanity is able to experience His majestic presence. Are we able to see the ways the Lord manifests Himself to us? God is always trying to bring us to relationship with Him.

With this celebration of the Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord,

which this year falls on a Monday, the Christmas season comes to an end. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your help, gifts, love and good wishes during this Christmas Season. May the Lord repay your generosity and love! May the Lord give us the grace of celebrating Christmas again! God bless you!

La Epifanía del Señor (Ciclo A) Reflexión Dominical

del P. Luis La Epifanía es la manifestación de Jesús como Mesías de Israel,

Hijo de Dios y Salvador del mundo. La gran fiesta de la Epifanía celebra la adoración de Jesús por parte de los sabios (magos) de Oriente, así como su bautismo en el Jordán y la fiesta de bodas en Caná de Galilea. El Señor se presenta de manera gloriosa y la humanidad puede percibir su majestuosa presencia. ¿Podemos ver las formas en que el Señor se nos manifiesta a nosotros? Dios trata constantemente de que entremos en relación con Él.

Con esta celebración de la Epifanía y el Bautismo del Señor, que

este año ocurre en lunes, termina el tiempo de Navidad. Deseo aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecerles su ayuda, regalos, amor y buenos deseos recibidos durante las fiestas navideñas. Que el Señor les pague su generosidad y amor. Que Él nos conceda la gracia de celebrar otra vez la Navidad. ¡Dios los bendiga!

The parish celebrated Christmas with various activities that included Christmas parties for the families in the Grove Outreach and Mission St. Ann, a Christmas re-enactment by the children in religious education, the Christmas novena, and the Masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Not to mention our beautiful manger over the main altar! La parroquia celebró la Navidad con diversas actividades que incluyeron fiestas para las familias del Grove Outreach y Misión Santa Ana, una representación de la historia de la Navidad por los niños de la catequesis, la novena de Navidad y las misas de la vigilia y del día. The Three Wise Men According to tradition, the names of the Magi in Greek were Melchior,

Gaspar and Balthasar. Matthew, in his Gospel, tells of the question which burned in the hearts of the Magi: "Where is the infant king of the Jews?" (Mt 2: 2). It was in order to search for him that they set out on the long journey to Jerusalem. This was why they withstood hardships and sacrifices, and never yielded to discouragement or the temptation to give up and go home. Now that they were close to their goal, they had no other question than this.

You should know that in 1164 the relics of the Magi were escorted by the Archbishop of Cologne, Reinald von Dassel, from Milan, across the Alps, all the way to Cologne, where they were received with great jubilation. On their pilgrimage across Europe these relics left visible traces behind them which still live on today, both in place names and in popular devotions … here in Cologne one of the Magi has been identified as a Moorish King of Africa, so that a representative of the African Continent has been seen as one of Jesus Christ's first witnesses…

In honor of the Magi the inhabitants of Cologne produced the most exquisite reliquary of the whole Christian world and raised above it an even greater reliquary: Cologne Cathedral. Along with Jerusalem the "Holy City", Rome the "Eternal City" and Santiago de Compostela in Spain, Cologne, thanks to the Magi, has become down the centuries one of the most important places of pilgrimage in the Christian West.

Los Tres Reyes Magos

Según la tradición, en griego sus nombres eran Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar. Mateo

refiere en su Evangelio la pregunta que ardía en el corazón de los Magos: "¿Dónde está el Rey de los judíos que ha nacido?" (Mt 2, 2). Su búsqueda era el motivo por el cual emprendieron el largo viaje hasta Jerusalén. Por eso soportaron fatigas y sacrificios, sin ceder al desaliento y a la tentación de volver atrás. Esta era la única pregunta que hacían cuando estaban cerca de la meta.

Como sabéis, en 1164, las reliquias de estos Sabios de Oriente saliendo de Milán y, escoltadas por el arzobispo de Colonia Reinald von Dassel, atravesaron los Alpes hasta llegar a Colonia, donde fueron acogidas con grandes manifestaciones de júbilo. En su peregrinación por Europa, esas reliquias han dejado huellas evidentes, que aún hoy permanecen en los nombres de lugares y en la devoción popular… aquí en Colonia, uno de los tres Magos fue identificado como un rey negro de África, de forma que un representante del continente africano fue considerado uno de los primeros testigos de Jesucristo….

Los habitantes de Colonia fabricaron para las reliquias de los Reyes Magos el relicario más precioso de todo el mundo cristiano y, como si no bastara, levantaron sobre él un relicario mayor todavía: la catedral de Colonia. Junto con Jerusalén la "ciudad santa", con Roma la "ciudad eterna", con Santiago de Compostela en España, gracias a los Magos, Colonia se ha ido convirtiendo a lo largo de los siglos en uno de los lugares de peregrinación más importantes del occidente cristiano.

An American Saint / Una Santa Americana

St. Elizabeth Ann Bailey Seton. Born to one of New

York’s wealthiest families, she was married at 19 to a

wealthy businessman, William Seton, by whom she had five

children. A widow at 30, Elizabeth witnessed Catholicity in

action while in Italy with her dying husband. Three basic

points led to her conversion: belief in the Real Presence,

devotion to the Blessed Mother and conviction that the

Catholic Church led back to the apostles and to Christ.

Many of her family and friends rejected her when she

became a Catholic in 1805. Mother Seton went on to found

the first American religious community for women, the Sisters of Charity, and opened

the first American parish school. Elizabeth Ann Seton was the first American-born

citizen to be canonized in 1975. Her feast day is January 4. Santa Isabel Ana Bailey Seton miembro de una de las familias más ricas de Nueva York y

casada a los 19 años con un hombre de negocios, William Seton, con quien tuvo cinco hijos,

The Universal Manifestation of God’s Love Angelus, January 6, 2015

On Christmas Eve we meditated on the hastening of several shepherds of

the people of Israel to the grotto of Bethlehem; today, the Solemnity of the Epiphany, we remember the arrival of the Magi, who came from the Orient to adore the newborn King of the Jews and Universal Savior and to offer Him symbolic gifts. With their act of adoration, the Magi bear witness that Jesus has come to earth to save not one people alone but all peoples….He does not reserve his love to the privileged few, but offers it to all.

The Gospel account of the Magi describes their journey from the East as a journey of the spirit, as a journey toward the encounter with Christ....As for the Magi, so for us, to seek God means to journey ... focused on the sky and discerning in the visible sign of the star the invisible God who speaks to our hearts. The star that is able to lead every man to Jesus is the Word of God, the Word that is in the Bible, in the Gospels.

La manifestación universal del amor de Dios

En la noche de Navidad hemos meditado acerca de algunos pastores que pertenecían al pueblo de Israel y se dirigían a la cueva de Belén; hoy, solemnidad de la Epifanía, hacemos memoria de la llegada de los Magos, que venían de Oriente para adorar al recién nacido Rey de los judíos y Salvador universal y ofrecer dones simbólicos. Con su gesto de adoración, los Magos testimonian que Jesús vino a la tierra para salvar no a un solo pueblo, sino a todas las gentes... Él no reserva su amor para algunos privilegiados, sino que lo ofrece a todos.

El relato evangélico de los Magos describe su viaje desde Oriente como un viaje del alma, como un camino hacia el encuentro con Cristo...Como para los Magos, también para nosotros buscar a Dios quiere decir caminar...fijando la mirada en el cielo y vislumbrando en el signo visible de la estrella al Dios invisible que habla a nuestro corazón. La estrella que es capaz de guiar a todo hombre a Jesús es la Palabra de Dios, Palabra que está en la Biblia, en los Evangelios.
