PARISH NEWS Dear Parishioners and Friends, Tuesday, January 10, our parish celebrates 129 years of ministry, for on that day in 1888, Archbishop Michael Corrigan and Father Matthew Taylor signed articles of incorporation. The original church, opened in 1887, was contained in stables on 72nd Street. In 1900, the predecessor to this edifice was built, and in 1917, our present church was begun. To this day, some still refer to Blessed Sacrament as “Father Taylor’s church.” At times, from high in the pulpit, I think of the thousands and thousands who have passed through our doors, and on to eternal rest. Please pray for them and all who have served this parish. Today our Christmas celebration continues with the Solemnity of the Epiphany. Our prayer is that God revealed the “Son to the nations by the guidance of a star” so we may be led by “God’s glory in heaven by the light of faith.” Tomorrow we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, the last day of the Christmas Season. Tuesday we begin Ordinary Time once again, which will lead us up to Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, March 1. Do you have a special Lenten practice or devotion? I’d like to hear about it and maybe even share it with others. With the end of the Christmas Season our Sanctuary changes- would you like a poinsettia? They will be available after the 12:10 Mass on Tuesday, January 10. While January 15 was the original day, this year January 16 is the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Whatever the date, everyday we should remember and ponder his words that, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” for only then will we “walk the earth together as brothers and sisters.” Please continue to pray for peace. Father Duffell

NOTICIAS PARROQUIALES

Padre Duffell.
