R&D Work Programme

Communications for smart grids and ICT are underpinning the whole ELECTRA R&D activity; in particular:

• WP3: Scenarios

• WP4: Interoperability

• WP8: Utilities’ Control rooms

Four WPs dedicated to Coordination & Support Actions CSA activities:

• WP1 - Coordination and Networking Coordination with the EERA JP SG, with other IRPs and JPs, with Advisory Board and EU grid stakeholders

• WP2 – Development of Joint Research Facilities Database of EU smart grid research infrastructure, its improvement, collaboration with ISGAN

• WP9 – Researchers Exchange Training of young researchers, increase cooperation and share knowledge in smart grid controls

• WP10 – INCO activities Foster collaboration with extra-EU countries, establishment of International Coordination Board, share information and knowledge

T2.3 International collaboration in ISGAN’s Smart Grid International Research Facility Network (Task Leader: DERlab)

The main goals for this Task are: • Collaboration with ISGAN – SIRFN (Smart Grid International Research

Facility Network), APEC Smart Grids Test Beds Network • Support the role of DERLab as Operating Agent of ISGAN

Annex V (SIRFN) • International knowledge sharing and discussions on testing

and validation of smart grid controls (focusing on voltage and frequency control) in research facilities

The aim of this task is to identify the key activities of SIRFN which are in line with ELECTRA and to implement and coordinate the related work.

Laboratory facilities and Research infrastructures (RIs) are vital for smart grid technology and solutions development … RIs are needed for testing prototypes and systems, for checking the interoperability of these new systems, for assessing their performance and integration in the whole system, and also for certificating their compliance with related standards. Apart from economic concerns, RIs require a great deal of specialization, given the complex/sophisticated technical tools and systems that have to be managed. RIs are to be used for evaluation of innovative solutions before or instead of being implemented on large-scale and costly DEMO
