The Economic Pulse of the World Citizens in 25 Countries Assess the Current State of their

The Economic Pulse 2
SURVEY METHOD
• The survey instrument is conducted monthly in 25 core countries around the world via the Ipsos Online Panel system.
COUNTRIES
• The countries reporting herein are Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United States.
SAMPLE
• For the results of the survey presented herein, an international sample of 18,513 adults age 18-64 in the US and Canada, and age 16-64 in all other countries, were interviewed. Approximately 1000+ individuals participated on a country by country basis via the Ipsos Online Panel with the exception of Argentina, Belgium, Hungary Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden and Turkey, where each have a sample approximately 500+. In China, India and South Africa the samples are slightly more educated and educated compared to the average citizen.
WEIGHTING
• Weighting was then employed to balance demographics and ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the adult population according to the most recent country Census data, and to provide results intended to approximate the sample universe. A survey with an unweighted probability sample of this size and a 100% response rate would have an estimated margin of error of +/-3.1 percentage points for a sample of 1,000 and an estimated margin of error of +/- 4.5 percentage points 19 times out of 20 per country of what the results would have been had the entire population of adults in that country had been polled. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error, and measurement error.
These are the findings of the Global @dvisor Wave 45 (G@45),
an Ipsos survey conducted between May 7th to May 21st , 2013.

Analytic Components…
There are three analytic components that make up the findings of this monthly Economic Pulse report.
Each question is tracked and analyzed from questions dealing with:
• Thinking about our economic situation, how would you describe the current economic situation in [insert country]? Is it very good, somewhat good, somewhat bad or very bad?
The currently perceived macroeconomic state of the respondent‟s country:
• Rate the current state of the economy in your local area using a scale from 1 to 7, where 7 means a very strong economy today and 1 means a very weak economy.
The currently perceived state of the local economy:
• Looking ahead six months from now, do you expect the economy in your local area to be much stronger, somewhat stronger, about the same, somewhat weaker, or much weaker than it is now?
A six month outlook for the local economy:

Global Economic Assessment = Stable
This wave represents both stability and improvement for the current global aggregate of 25
countries. The aggregate has improved three points to 39% of global citizens agree
their current national economic situation is “good”. This improvement is driven by the
addition of Norway (98%)…without Norway, the aggregate assessment would remain
unchanged at 36%.
Two regions show noteworthy improvements this wave: Europe (+8 to 32%) and North
America (+3 to 48%).
– In Europe, much of the improvement is driven by the addition of Norway but Great
Britain is also showing an eight-point improvement to 21%, an important uptick for the
country and region.
– In North America, Canada rebounds to 63% (up 3 points) after last month’s dip while
the United States continues its upward momentum (33%, +2 pts).
The Middle East and Africa remains unchanged at 53% as a region while Asia-Pacific (43%)
and Latin America (33%) both have gone down one point.

The Economic Pulse 6
Global @dvisor welcomes Norway as the 25th country to
regularly field on a monthly basis on the international
survey syndicate.
The Scandinavian country has the second-highest GDP
per capita and economic sentiment reflects this. Our poll
finds 52% of those in Norway would describe the current
economic situation in their country as “very good” while
46% consider it to be “somewhat good”. A small minority rate the national economic
situation to be bad – 1% say very bad, 2% somewhat bad.
These decidedly positive views pull the global economic aggregate up three points higher
this month than they would have been without Norway in the mix. The next-strongest
country in terms of national economic sentiment is historic frontrunner Saudi Arabia, a full
17 points lower.
On local economic assessments, six in ten (63%) Norwegians indicate the current state in
their local economy is strong, compared with a global average of 28% (27% with the
exclusion of Norway in the aggregate).
Looking ahead six months from now, only 7% indicate they expect their local economy to
be stronger, perhaps an indication of a feeling that the economy is strong but stable
(Foreign Policy Magazine rates it the world’s most well-functioning and stable country). In
comparison, the global aggregate sits at 23% - unchanged with or without Norway - on this
measure.
