Vol. 15 February, 2021
‘Technovation 2021’, is a student-led event that the students look forward to every year. As all the events were hosted
virtually this academic year, Technovation was another event added to the list. The event was organized by students of
Grade 7 to 9 and was conducted on 17th and 18th February, 2021. The aim of this event was to motivate the students to
wear their leadership caps and give them a chance to participate in an event organized by their peers. The students came
up with fun events like bingo, logo making, treasure hunt, etc.
The event organizers were segmented into the following committees: event committee, design committee and
advertising committee. All the committee members collaborated and worked together to make this event successful. All
the committee members were guided by their IT teachers. Students from grade 4-9 participated in large numbers.
There were many events that were organized by the students and teachers.
Let's hear it from the event organizers about their event. To view the work of winners, visit the following website:

Logo Making - Organized by Dia Makhecha and Dhara Inani
The Logo-Making Competition was the last to take place this year. Headed by Dia Makhecha and Dhara Inani, along
with Miss Nikita, an entertaining atmosphere greeted participants as they entered the meeting. Rules were explained
carefully and it was clear that everyone here wanted to win. A wave of competence and challenges met the students
taking part as they were presented with three topics to choose from, having to make a logo, along with a small description
(or tagline) on the same. Participants completed their tasks and handed them in on time, leaving the judges confused as
to which entry deserves 1st place. At the end of the day, Ayaan Shah won the event for his heartfelt logo for a Nature
Reserve. Our experience as head of events and judges was tense, yet amusing and wholesome. Would we volunteer as
Event Committee members again? Definitely, without a doubt!
Bingo - Organized by Yana Doshi and Ansh Zota
IT Fest has always been an essential part of the year. Excitement increases by the start of February as we begin our
preparations. This year I was part of the events committee. My partner and I brainstormed ideas thoroughly and then
shortlisted the idea of ‘Bingo’. Bingo is a fun game where luck plays a vital role. We twisted the game a bit so that it
would have an ICT aspect to it. Bingo sheet was filled with sixteen different words. One by one we presented clues to
the participants, they had to guess the word according to the clue given, if they had the word on their sheet they would
strike it off. We played using 5 different winning patterns, but whoever got a full house first, that person was declared
the winner. There were 22 participants. Their enthusiasm was extremely high which was very encouraging for us.
Hosting the event was a fantastic experience and I would love to do it again. Winners for this event were
Octagon - Organized by Hriday Sheth
Octagon, a game played on an endless map where the players try to survive for as long as they can tackling all obstacles.
Ferin Dedhia from grade 9A came first in the event.
Selfie Saga - Organized by Pearl Shah and Kiara Ladhani
IT Fest has always been fun and enjoyable! We always look forward to it every year, but this year the excitement and
curiosity levels raged their boundaries as we were curious to know how our school was going to conduct our IT Fest on
a virtual platform. It turned out to be entertaining and a stress reliever. My friends and I also hosted an event called
Selfie Saga where the contestants took selfies according to the given task. There were 9 tasks allotted and once they
were done with clicking pictures, they had to combine them in a grid, give it a catchy caption, and use their creativity
to decorate it. They had to submit it within the time frame. It was a thrilling experience and a cherishable moment.

GRADE - NURSERY
Farm Blueprint
A farm is an area of land with fields and buildings that is used for growing crops and keeping animals for special
purposes. Diving into our second line of inquiry “Suitability of particular animals for specific functions”, the students
of Nursery decided to choose one farm animal to be sheltered in their homes, keeping in mind the form, function and
needs of the animals. Before they began the herculean task of setting up a home for the animal at the farm, they created
a blueprint using the knowledge and understanding of their virtual trip to the farm. Students documented their design
plans, ideas and materials they would use to create their farm. During the process they used their creative thinking skills
and were able to have discussions and generate ideas, seek information and were open to new perspectives and add
alternative solutions for their design.
The "Ahaaa" Moment
The students of Nursery have been using Numicon to inquire into numbers. During one of their investigations, students
were asked to use their observation skills and notice how each number had a specific shape and colour. Using the outline
of each number, they had to fit in two Numicon for that number and find out which two numbers complete the template
of that number. When it came to number '3' our learners noticed how 1 and 2 make up 3 in two different ways if we
changed the arrangement. Our curious learner used their critical thinking skills and thought out of the box. "Miss but if
I use number 4 and cover one circle then that too gives me 3". That was the Aahaa... moment for us. Our Nursery
students are moving ahead to subtraction. Way to go!!
Primary Section
The ‘word wall’ adapts to a word book!!
The ‘word wall’ is an important corner of a classroom which acts as an interactive tool for our young learners to help
them read and write. Due to the pandemic we adapted to the virtual class not leaving our wall behind and converted our
wall to books. Our Nursery students collaborated and co-authored with their teachers. They selected images that matched
with that word using the Bitmoji app inculcating picture reading in them. This practise excites and motivates our learners
to think and come up with words as they wish to see their own Bitmojis on screen and in the final book.
GRADE - JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN
“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing
them.” Aristotle,
Young children are naturally inquisitive, full of questions about the world around them and are curious to investigate
how things work. To satisfy this, little scientists of Junior Kindergarten got hand-on experience to perform various
simple experiments to find out the properties of air. They observed, made predictions, analysed and recorded their
learning. These activities provided them with opportunities to develop their thinking and communication skills. It helped
the learners to expand their vocabulary by using scientific terms.
Robotics and Body systems!
Robotic movement is an authentic style of expressing the relationship between the kinaesthetic, creative and
psychological dimensions of the body. Students have been learning how to use the muscular system effectively to fine
tune the basic techniques of the dance form. They have been risk takers experimenting with the different pictures and
elements of Robotics.
GRADE 2
MATHEMATICIANS GO HUNTING!
Grade 2 learners were introduced to the topic of right-angled triangles during our math class. Using their research skills,
the learners hunted for right angled triangles in their surroundings
They communicated their findings by clicking pictures and videos. Our learners showed excellent communication skills
and presented the task confidently with a number of examples.
GRADE 5
What can you infer about the text?
Grade 5 students explored varied texts and movie clips to observe and record their inferences with reasoning.
Students used their thinking skills inferentially when they connected with their background knowledge, information,
ideas and experiences with the text. Students were communicators as they discussed with their shoulder partner their
inferences using the clues in the text, along with their own experiences to help them figure out what is indirectly said,
making the text personal and memorable.

Scientist making discovery for mankind and to grow his knowledge
I see a person looking at something in a microscope he probably is a scientist since there are chemicals on his table.
Farmers growing crops and removing hay from the horses back in a farm.
People are harvesting hay or they are removing it. I think it’s in a farm because there are horses ploughing and tools that farmers use.
Aarav Std: Grade-5-Inferences Dhiyana Kothari Std: Grade-5-Inferences
I see lot of chemistry bottles and a man who is trying something out with the help of chemistry or physics
I see an old man experimenting. He is testing some chemicals which is on a table. He looks like he is important. I see a lot of machines which are there museums now. He is wearing clothes which look different than ours.
I see few people riding horses and helping horses and cleaning the pathway for the horses by removing haystacks and hay.
I see some people who are migrating by horses. They look like farmers. They are wearing clothes like farmers when they work. They are holding something that seems to pull hay towards them. They are in a grassland. Two horses are pulling a small carriage.
Presentation on Globalization & Sustainability
The students of grade 6 challenged themselves to present their inquiry-based group presentation on globalization and
sustainability in Hindi Language. It was a wonderful activity to boost students’ confidence as well as to develop their
communication skills This encouraged them to use their acquired knowledge of the language effectively.

Jeshna’s Lockdown Journey
Jeshna Mehra, studying in Grade 7 has recently started writing her own blog.
She enjoys music, photography and watching movies/tv shows and spending time with her family. Everyone has
something special in them and what she can tell you about herself is that she has a good amount of will-power and a
great degree of determination. So, here is her journey which she would love to share with you :)
Once you make up your mind for something, you can definitely achieve it. Nothing can stop you and then there is no
looking back!
Online Decision-Making Game
The History students of Grade 9 participated in an online simulation decision making game.
The students stepped into the shoes of Adolf Hitler as they tried to use their factual knowledge and conceptual
understanding of the topic to make key decisions which formulated Adolf Hitler's foreign policy which played a key
role in starting World War 2. The students applied the skill of causality to gain a comprehensive understanding of the
motives of the European politicians in the 1930s which guided their decision making with regards to their expansionary
policies.
Anticipation Guide as a Tool to help Virtual Teaching
Purpose: For the teacher to judge prior knowledge of the students on the topic and students to understand where
they stand in their knowledge and write reflections.
What is an Anticipation Guide: The anticipation guide is a very useful teaching strategy for classes during lockdown
periods where virtual teaching is the norm? During this period student teacher interactions necessarily become limited
because unlike a physical environment, students do not react as enthusiastically to a screen as they would to a teacher
actually standing in front of them. I made use of the Anticipation guide for my Grade 11 students of DYPIS and I found
it to be a big help in judging the prior knowledge of students.
Most students at this level do have some prior knowledge of the topics they will be taught keeping in mind they have
gone through 10 years of prior schooling when the topics would be touched upon briefly at least if not in detail.
Use of Anticipation Guide in the classroom: The Anticipation guide was used in my class to judge the prior knowledge
of students on Ecology. Prior to starting the unit students were given a set of statements on Ecology to which they had
to respond by indicating whether they agreed to the statement or not. The statements were designed to challenge or
support their preconceived ideas regarding a particular concept of Ecology. At the end of the exercise students were
given a subtopic of the unit to read and then decide for themselves whether they were right of wrong.
How did the exercise with the Anticipation Guide help:
Help to the teacher: Going through the student responses helps the teacher to understand the prior knowledge of his/her
students and build up teaching strategies from that level.
Help to the Students: Students were also expected to note down their reflections regarding their responses giving
actual examples from the text and give a small presentation on what they learned from their experience with the
Anticipation Guide. Class discussions followed. This helped students to gauge for themselves their basic understanding
level and also identify for themselves their weak areas.
Rules to be kept in mind while using Anticipation Guides: The Anticipation guide should be given as a surprise to
the students. They should have no prior knowledge of the identity of the topic they were going to be taught following
their exercise with the guide. This would ensure that they do not prepare beforehand. Doing this gives a true picture of
their prior knowledge about the topic.
Advantage of the Anticipation guide:
Engages all students
Encourages them to critically analyse what they know or do not know about a topic.
Since the Anticipation Guide responses are fresh in their mind’s students can make clear judgements about whether they
need to rethink on certain points.
The responses help the teacher in building up the teaching appropriately and also saves on time. The teacher does not
waste time talking in detail on points students were already familiar with.
