The mistery of the missing picture

Once upon a time there was a little ghost named

Georgie. He roamed the empty school halls day and night and looked for a friend to hold him tight.

Georgie's parents travelled from Hungary to France and unexpectedly little George was born. His parents didn't know how to handle a child because they were still young, 100 in ghost years. They traveled for many days until they finally found the perfect place to leave their baby, because they were scared of having a baby.It was a school in a small town called Lendava. There were many kids running around so Georgie would never be alone. All those kids ignored him all the time, but what Georgie didn't know

Page 4: The DSŠ Lendava Ghost stories

was that he was invisible to humans. He was feeling sad, lonely and hopeless and all of sudden he saw a picture. He stopped and looked at it and for the first time in a very long time, Georgie felt happiness.

Georgie spent every day sitting and dreaming about how much better his life would have been if he had seen the picture sooner. And then one day a big mean teacher came around. she wanted to remove all the pictures from the wall to put new ones on. As soon as Georgie heard that, he didn't know what to do, so he cried and cried and cried … He cried so much that there were floods everywhere around Lendava. Georgie heard that the teacher wanted to remove the pictures. The following day so he decided that he would visit it once more to say goodbye. As he slowly and sadly walked up to the picture he got an idea. If he stole it he would never be alone again. So he made a plan. He may have looked small and puffy, but he was very smart and imaginative. At midnight he went to his picture and he cut it out of its frame, he took it with him and went to sleep. In the morning however he got scared that he might get caught. With the picture he was braver and stronger so he decided to leave this town. After the weekend was over and it was Monday again, the teacher noticed that the picture was missing, but by then the little ghost was far gone.

Everybody wondered where the picture was and who took it, but nobody knew what was on the picture that made the little ghost happy. (Lana,Rebeka,Martina)

The Diary of a Pyromaniac

Lendava, 25th of November 2008 Dear diary,

I witnessed something very strange today, a story that forever changed me and my life. Things normally considered as fiction turned out to be very real. The things I saw and heard could completely change the way humans interpret everything. As i was walking down the hallway I noticed something. It smelled like burned hair mixed with burned rubber. I heard stories about a ghost roaming the school property but I always believed that the rumors were used to scare younger students – until today. I suddenly became very curious about the source of the smell, so I went to further investigate it. What blew my mind the most was definitely the fact that the source of the stench was moving. I felt like the smell itself followed me around. By the time everyone left school I was still trying to solve the mystery of the smell. Out of nowhere a surprisingly high pitched voice spoke up to me: »Burn! Burn!« I turned around but there was nothing. That voice spoke again. »I did it. I burned it. That strange accident about four years ago was my doing. I burned the school and felt so good. I cut the hose supplying the lab with propane gas and then set the whole thing on fire. Unfortunately I got my calculations wrong so I got stuck inside when the explosion happened. It was crazy. I can still remember the shock wave hitting my chest and the sensation of burned flesh on my little bones. Oddly enough, it felt so right. I think I might be a pyromaniac. I have to say that the burning of the school was my biggest achievement. Burning down buildings is like my odd addiction – one that I have to live with,« it said. I was left speechless. So many things were flying around in my head. My mind was blown. When I pulled myself back together again, I said: »I like fire just as you do. Maybe we could do something together. A project of some sort or maybe burn down another building.« »Yes, I've been waiting so long for someone like you! Let's burn this school down and light up the sky. Put some holes in the pipes supplying the lab with gas. After you are done, wait a few minutes in order for the gas to completely fill the space. Then use a lighter or some other source of ignition to light up the gas. I recommend detonation from a long range, so you won't get hurt.« I carefully listened to the instructions the ghost told me and then prepared everything for the explosion. I set up a timer-based source of ignition and left the school building. As I was walking away from it, I heard the first explosions inside and a voice screaming: »This is glorious, this is

Page 6: The DSŠ Lendava Ghost stories

magnificent!« The classrooms and the hallways burned. After some time passed, the voice couldn't be heard anymore. The ghost probably vanished as his soul finally found a rest. I suddenly realised I was the one responsible for it. I couldn't blame it on the ghost. So I ran like crazy and hid somewhere safe where no one could ever find me. This is how my day went today. A pretty nice adventure I must say. All that can be done now is to wait patiently in the shadows and be ready for the right moment and another opportunity to strike. The legacy of the pyromaniac ghost lives on. I am the ghost and the ghost is me!

ATTILA

Álmában Attilával a kecskével találkozott, aki szerncsét ajándékozott neki. 2. Minden gondolkodás jó valamilyen szinten. 3. Attila:isten ostora. Amamda Horvat, Ines Katarina Kacsa Gaal,4.b

The Cow

It was that night when it all began. The full moon was shining on our school. The land was covered in fog and the temperatures were below the freezing point.

Suddenly two lights appeared on the horizon, the lights were moving very fast. It was a school bus full of joyful singing children. They were under the influence of drinks and colourful pills: Coke and Skittles. The level of sugar in their blood was very high.

All of a sudden something moved, and it quickly jumped on the road. An image of a cow appeared in front of the bus. It was too late for the driver to react. The cow got hit and rolled over. After the driver realised what he had done, he jumped out of the bus, because he was sure he had killed the cow, but when he checked there was no body, just a pond of blood. The cow died later in burning agony and she swore he would seek his revenge against the Secondary school Lendava. This is the well known curse of the cow, Špela.

But the curse is not fictional. The ghost of the cow is haunting in the rooms of the school. There are stories that the ghost is regularly seen in the school hallways. A lot of unexplainable things are happening. For instance, every morning before sunrise everyone can hear a loud “Moooooooooo”, there are also drops of milk after every weekend. The ghost never rests. She opens and closes the doors, even knocked on them. Once she even urinated on the principal’s door. The children are very afraid, they couldn’t explain why all of this are happening.

But there is a man, with no past, with no feelings. His name is Karel, he is the school’s gardener and he has only one concern in the world: mowing the lawn. He isn’t very special on the outside, but he carries great powers inside his strong heart. He is the only one who could ever stop Špela’s rampage, and he knows that, in fact they aren’t that different from each other. Both regularly urinate on the principal’s door.

Page 9: The DSŠ Lendava Ghost stories

Karel von Grasmäher is the descendant of a famous grass cutting family. He inherited a very special lawnmower, a Bosch, a 30 diesel engine powered grass cutting beast. With this machine you could cut every grass, even the imaginary ones.

One morning when he was drinking his coffee with milk, he thought about the cow and said: “This cow did some crazy stuff, but it’s time to end her legacy!” He went home, and picked up the magical machine. He went back to the school and he did the thing what he was best at; cutting grass. Pišta cut all the grass, not a single blade was left. The cow soon realized that she had nothing to eat, and she has to leave the school grounds and give up on her evil plans.

The school will stay safe until Karel cuts all the grass, the real one and the imaginary one as well. There will also come a time when Karel won’t be able to cut the grass… What will we do then?

THE BORED GHOST

In the small city named Lendava nothing ever happens. At least nothing interesting. As always before, it was a peaceful and cold morning, just after a night of rain. People were rushing to work, kind in school and coffee shops we’re full of people waiting to get their first dose of caffeine. Meanwhile ghost named Caspello was bored and lonely. He wanted to do something to get rid of bad mood.

He went to the geography classroom. At first he saw nothing interesting. Then he found some maps hanging on the wall. He took them with him to the library and kept himself busy with finding places where he wanted to go someday. His favourite city was Rome. After few hours he got bored again and decided to go

Page 11: The DSŠ Lendava Ghost stories

somewhere else. As he walked along the hall he heard voices coming from one of the classrooms. “All paths lead to Rome,” said some man with the deep voice. Caspello got excited thinking they could lead him to his dream city, so he decided to ask them for the way and maybe have some fun doing it. It was a cold and rainy day when blackboard in history class room firs moved by itself. T.T., history teacher, who had lesson with his class, cracked some jokes about ghosts, everyone laughed and then moved on with the period. However, board moved again, and when professor placed it back on its original position it moved again. But still, nobody took it seriously. Caspello was trying to reach for the blackboard in order to see what is written on it. He was hoping for information about Rome, however he was not worried too much. If all paths lead to Rome he’ll get there, one way or another. But a clue where to start would be also nice. So as he pulled the board down it moved back up. He turned around and saw teacher, who was clearly fooling with him, because every time he tried to pull down the board, teacher pulled it back up. So he decides to try different approach. He took the nearest empty chair and pushed it against the wall, to have a better view. When he looked closely to the board he realised that the board was empty with exception of some posters which had nothing to do with Rome. He gave up and decided to go back home and try again tomorrow.

RETURNED Nelson yawned and took a look through the window

- ‘Oh dear, what a tedious lesson, If only I knew maths,’ - ‘Stop complaining and shut up’ shouted Harry hypocritically.

- ‘You should face the reality that not everyone is smart’ whispered Mandy.

‘Please pay attention, since this subject matter is difficult and I won’t repeat it twice, because we don’t have enough time. Matura

examination is approaching.’ Said the teacher. Suddenly the classroom door opened. Everybody was stunned in

this astonishing moment. The teacher sighed and closed the door. Nelson mumbled something. Ariana giggled and asked him, ‘who are you talking to? Do you have any idea, what kind of people are talking to themselves? Weird losers, definitely.’ The whole class

laughed with relish. It started to rain unexpectedly. A storm was coming closer to the

town. Outstanding thunder has been heard. Everyone was calmed, except Nelson, who got frightened. His hands started to shake and

vivid fear was evident in his eyes. “Look who is scared, pantywaist, you should call your mom she

might stand behind your back.” He felt dejection in his inside. He left the classroom and ran into

the toilets. He ended up crying and whining. He looked at himself in the mirror and he saw that he doesn’t have tears in his eyes. He was

amazed and scared. He touched the mirror. His hand was going through it. He felt a strange and mysterious energy. As his hand

was moving inside he felt that he grabbed something. He pulled out his hand and he realized that he was holding a strange old book.

When he opened it he figured out that it was a diary. The first page

Page 13: The DSŠ Lendava Ghost stories

of book was an introduction to a school life of girl named Carrie. Nelson started to read it with excitement. He found out that this girl

was also bullied by her classmates. On the last page he saw some blood drops. He read that she committed suicide. She promised

that she will haunt the school. Vengeance will be painful and cruel. There will be no chance of survival. Mean people deserve what they

had done to others. Nelson was terrified and worried about the future of this school, although he was innocent.

At the next class he secretly sat and didn’t say a thing. Somehow an invisible person grabbed a chalk and started to write on the board. It was Carrie. She introduced herself and wrote the story of her life on the board. Everyone was shocked and started screaming. They didn’t know hat to do in panic, as they read that they will die soon.

Only Nelson was emotionless. He was sitting and watching everyone suffocating to breathe. All the lights exploded and

windows cracked. Firefighters evacuated the students. In the class 4.f everyone passed away except Nelson. He was asked about the

things which happened and he never answered. No one never found out what happened that day. There was no proof for this incident.

The curious incident of the ghost in our library

The church bells echoed through the empty halls of the Bilingual Secondary School in Lendava. The night sky was clear and full of stars, the air was crisp cold. Suddenly, the library door knob turned and the door slowly opened. A dark figure slid in and moved mysteriously through the space. Then it stopped at one of the bookshelves and ran its fingers over the covers of the dusty old books I'm late again. Last night was exhausting. Studying in the library did not really do any good, but it's not like I'm not used to it. I rush through the morning and quickly run to the school. Shit, the lesson started 10 minutes ago. When I enter the classroom, the teacher doesn't even look at me. I sit down but just as I want to take out my books, there's a knock on the door. »Excuse me, can I get Mr. Kovač for a moment?« Not again… I take my time walking outside the room. As soon as the door closes, the headmaster’s friendly face changes and his eyes pierce me with accusation.

Page 15: The DSŠ Lendava Ghost stories

»Would you mind telling me what you were doing last night?« What…? Well, that's certainly not the usual business. »I was at the library studying«. »Oh, so you really were at the library. Were you really just studying?« »What are you talking about…?« »I think you know very well what I'm talking about. We've just found out, that a few of our books from the library went missing. And of course, you ere the last one to leave the library.« »Are you seriously thinking I stole books from your library? That makes no sense. If I needed any of the books, I would have just lent them; after all, it's a library.« »Your empty excuses won't do you any good this time, Mr. Kovač. We're all THE way past believing you. You have until 6 o'clock to return the book. If you don't, you can count on expulsion. And I mean it this time. You've reached the end of the line«. »But I didn't…«, »The end of the line, Mr. Kovač«. Jesus Christ… What a fucking jerk. All this rush to get here on time only to get this thrown at me. And what's this nonesense about the missing books…? And I have to return them this afternoon…? Looks like trouble just can't stay more than a step away from me… I certainly can't be bothered to go back to class after this. I make my way to the library. When I open the door, I see what I was hoping for. It's not the last night's librarian's shift. »Good morning. Can I ask you about the books that someone apparently stole last night?« »Of course. What about them?« »Can you tell me the titles, please?« »The titles were »Still Life With Woodpecker« by Tom Robbins and »Vida« by Patricia Engel.« »Thank you«. Never heard of them. I use the library's computer to look them up. As it turns out, they're quite known. I find them both on a »10 Uplifting Books for Lonely Souls« list. He sure must have been lonely… I leave the library and go home. Thank God mom and dad are working in the morning today. I light a cigarette and try to take a break from today's bullshit. It's sunny outside. I wonder how long until the first snow comes… But the books… I can't seem to get rid of the thought about books. It's been bugging me ever since I left the library. There's this legend about a student of our school… He took his life in the school library. What a freak. Apparently, he was the school loner. Never had any friends, even his classmates made fun of him all the time. His parents were subdued to alcohol, so his upbringing was probably just a hazy blend of beatings and shouting. Could it be…? Jesus, what am I even

Page 16: The DSŠ Lendava Ghost stories

thinking. Things like that exist only in dreams. I lie down and my thoughts slowly drift away. I wake up with a start. It's 5 p.m. already. Only 1 hour left… I can't believe I got shit like this to worry about. I remember the dead student. But now that I think of that… This is not the first time that books disappeared from our library. They just didn't know who to blame before. I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Typical. I rush to the school and ask the librarian about the titles of the books that disappeared beofore. »High Fidelity« by Nick Hornby, »The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay« by Michael Chabon, »A Natural History of the Senses« by Diance Ackerman… All these books have the same theme! They're all about lonely souls, souls who desperately want to be accepted and lead a normal life. Now I'm sure. It was him. I heavily knock on the headmaster's door. »Mr. Kovač… i'm glad you came.« »Mr. Headmaster, you don't understand! I didn't steal the books, it was Vladimir Novakov Nikokolajevsky, the student who hung himself in our library 50 years ago.« »Mr. Kovač… You're talking nonsense. I told you, your excuses don't work any more. Especially the crazy ones.« »But mr. Headmaster, it's true!« »Alright, enough! Answer me: do you have the books or not?« »I don't, but…« »That's all I needed to hear. Your days in this school are over. Goodbye, Mr. Kovač.« I knew my parents would not handle this well. But that's not something I'll worry about now. I reach into my pocket. The pack of cigarettes feels empty. I hope there's one more left… Fuck. I make my way to the bar to buy a new pack. I feel suprisingly calm.

FRIVAT The hardship goes on

Frido Horvat was an art teacher in the secondary school in Lendava. He loved his work and spent a lot of time with his Students. He was always the first in school to prepare the classroom. He was a tall, slim, scared teacher. He was bald and he always wore a shirt and a tie. Frido was sometimes confused and a little bit crazy. He didn’t have any family because his parents had died in a car accident, so he has been alone for most of his life. Nothing special happened in his life so far, but everything is going to change! It was raining outside and he was alone in the school. He was hearing sounds, it was a screaming women. So he went around the school to look where the screaming comes from. He looked everywhere but just the last classroom was the art classroom where he didn’t look. In the room he saw a crying women in the corner. She looked at him, the woman’s eyes were full of hate and sorrow and when she spoke her voice was as cold as ice and his heart started to beat faster and faster and he couldn’t breathe anymore. He looked at her for a moment and he remembered, this woman, who cried in the corner was his dead wife. She had died in a car accident. But the thing that he didn’t understand was, why he could see her and what was she doing here? She looked at him and said something, it sounded like “It’s your fault, it’s your fault that I’m dead now!” In the next moment Frido turned around and he grabbed the handle of the door, but he couldn't touch it Now he remembered the car accident was really his fault, because he was driving drunk. His wife died on the way to the hospital and he was already dead before the ambulance was on the place. Frido couldn't believe it, he was a ghost and his wife wanted revenge because she loved her life and Frido took it. The woman stood up and went to him, she came closer and closer, Frido was scared, he opened the door and run away as fast as he could. On this day Frido realized one thing, nothing is scarier than an angry woman, especially when she is a ghost. From this day forward he runs away from his wife and that’s the reason why the door to the art class is always open.

Ghost of Dssl

Once upon a time there was a man, who lived a peaceful life in a little                               house with his family. One day when he came home from a long journey,                           he stepped into the house and froze. He saw his family laying on the floor                             in mud of blood. He was so desperate that he sat his house on fire and                               burned inside with his dead family. After a time everyone forget the                       tragedy and no one remembered that once there was a little house in the                           edge of the city.

The places was unbothered, until after 300 years a school was built                       on top of it. The new school was gigantic. It was equipped with modern                           furniture and everyone love it. But when the school year started, strange                       things started to happen. Every night someone opened every window and                     between 16 and 18 o’clock people could hear someone screaming. The                     teachers and the students were very frightened, so the headmistress                   closed the school until they did not find out what was happening and why.

Peter was one of the student who lived in his own life and was very                             shy. He saw the world in a different way. Teachers did not like him,                           because he never spoke between lessons and he had bad grades. He                       decided that he will correct his grades, but he remembered that he left his                           books in school. So he went back to get them despite the fact that no one                               was allowed to go inside the school. When he step into the school he                           immediately felt that something weird was happening. The whole school                   was like an old abandoned castle, full of gossamer and dust, although it                         was cleaned only a week ago. He was curious what the reason of that was.                             Suddenly a strange fog appeared and moved towards him. When the fog                       reached him it reshaped to a ghost of a middle aged man. Peter was                           scared to dead and want to run away, but then he saw the pain in the                               ghost’s eyes and he felt really sorry for him. He asked the ghost what he                             wants from him. The ghost said nothing, turned around and went in the                         direction of the school library. At the library door he stopped and looked                         back at Peter, waiting for him to follow him. Peter was hesitating, but                         decided that he will follow the ghost. In the library the ghost led him to the

Page 20: The DSŠ Lendava Ghost stories

bookshelves with old history books and gave him an old chronicle from the                         18th century.

All the books were dusty except one. The book started to glove in                           green light and flew to Peter´s hands, and then suddenly popped up on                     the page, where an old newspaper article was about a man who set his                           home on fire. Peter saw a strange writing on the side of the article. He want                               to ask the ghost about it, but the ghost has vanished. Peter puzzled out the                             messages, but it took for hours. The writing said that there was a serial                           killer named Benjamin Smith. Peter remembered that the problems began                   when that kid, Mike Smith, came to their school. He realised that the ghost                           came back to take revenge for what happened to his family and Mike was                           his victim. He had to protect Mike, but in that moment a sound of breaking                             glass broke the silence, followed by a laud scream. Peter ran to the                         window and saw Mike laying on the court between the broken glasses. He                         was dead.

The ghost stood on the rooftop with a big smile on his face and                           slowly fade away as he found his peace. Mike’s dead body was                       surrounded by the fog and when the fog disappeared there was no sign of                           Mike. Only a watch which belonged to his gran grandfather. The school                       was not haunted anymore and the students could return to their normal                       lives.   Written by: Noemi Sep, David Horvat, Peter Somi ______________________________________________

A rainy Friday night story. Many things don’t seem as they are. We go through daily struggle and don’t even notice what is happening around us. Sometimes we underestimate our capability to succeed and we end up giving up on most simple tasks. We don’t appreciate the skills that were given to us and don’t even develop them further. We are stuck between places and too often we try to make everybody happy, even though we can’t even manage our own life. We start to feel bad, because we can’t accomplish what we should. On a rainy Friday night, students had dance lessons for their upcoming prom-night in their school gym. Jason was already exhausted, because he had a long week. He had many exams, which he mostly failed, therefore he was depressed. His dance partner had a meeting with her band, which she couldn’t miss, because of their upcoming concert. That’s why he was forced to dance with a random girl, who came there to watch them dance. As the night was getting darker and the lesson was coming to an end, his depression became stronger. He ran to the toilets, because he had an urge to throw up. Nobody even noticed and the girl who he was dancing with just left, because she had some chores to do. Jason ran to the toilets on the second floor of the school, because he didn’t want people to see him throw up. He ran as fast as he could, but he had a weak stomach. He threw up in the nearest trash can. He ruined his shirt and it started to smell. He finally arrived at the toilets and started to wash his shirt. The water that came out of the pipe was not doing any better, because the water was dirty of the floods from last week. The water still wasn’t safe to drink, because it was contaminated with bacteria from the nearby chemic factory. Some people say, the water can even cause hallucinations, but he didn’t know that. He managed to get rid of most of the smell from the shirt, he started to feel sleepy. He went to the hall and laid down on one of the benches. He decided to sleep in for a minute or two until his shirt dries. It was already 10 o’clock in the evening and the janitor was locking the doors. He was

too lazy to check all the halls and classrooms and just wanted to go home to his family. He slammed the door really loud and Jason woke up instantly. Most of the lights were shut off. It was for the emergency lights that were helping him seeing better. He was frightened and didn’t know what to do. Luckily his shirt was dry, so he could put it back on, which was making him feel better for a moment. He looked around and searched for his mobile phone, but he realized that its battery was empty. Suddenly he started to panic. He screamed. He ran to all exists he could think of at that moment, but all of them were locked. He tried to escape through the windows, but the only windows were that he could fit through, were in the classrooms, which were locked too. He found himself in the

middle of the hall and looked to the sky. It was still raining and the thunder frightened him even more. One of the emergency lights started to flicker. It was the light by the end of the stairs that were leading to the cellar. Nobody, even the janitor rarely went there, so the doors were old and looking abandoned. He was feeling thirsty and scared, he would dehydrate. He had no other option than to drink the contaminated water. At first he didn’t feel a thing, but he knew that something was not right. He heard a noise. A trash can fell over on the first floor and he rushed over there to investigate. It was a rat. A big, nasty, grey rat. It must have been living here for at least a year. Living of trash and old cafeteria food. That’s when he remembered, there must be another way out through the cafeteria, but he realized quickly that this too, has been locked. Jason was lost. Lost in his own mind. He didn’t know why this was happening to him. Suddenly a loud shatter scared him to death. A large tree fell and broke the big window in the cafeteria. The rain started to pour through the broken window and Jason started to freeze, because of the wind that was blowing with the rain in the school. He ran across the hall and noticed that the emergency light that flickered at the end of the staircase, changed its color. The bright green transformed to aggressive red. He became curious. He walked slowly towards the light. He was scared as hell, when he saw that the rusty old door to the cellar was slightly opened. With every moment, he became weaker and fell on his knees. The doors started to screech and closed with force. It might have been just the wind or his imagination. He grabbed the door knob. He had to push really hard to get in. He spent most of his energy to open the door and as he tried to open it with his body leaning on the door, the door opened widely. He fell on the dusty floor. He saw shadows behind some old boxes. As he stood up, the door closed fast. He started to suffocate, because of all the dust and the fact that he was terrified made it even worse. The shadows were growing and gathering around him. Is this all real? Is it all a bad joke? He couldn’t tell as he started to run corner to corner. All of a sudden he saw a light beam. He located a window next to one desk in the back of the cellar. He run towards the window and saw local firemen pulling the tree out of the cafeteria. He began to scream and he was hoping that they will notice him. At first they didn’t hear him, so he started to cry. He thought that this is the end of everything. He grabbed a chair that was lying nearby the desk and smashed the window. With all his power he crawled out of the window and started to run towards the firemen. On his way there he fell on the ground because he was so tired. A fireman finally noticed him and ran towards him. He grabbed him and took him to the local health center, where they took good care of him. In the following days he went through therapy to fight off his depression. After a few weeks he was allowed to go home and see his family again. He learned that you should never give up, no matter the situation. If you are in trouble, you need to seek

for some help. He finished high school and he had the best prom ever, but he will never forget what he saw that night in the cellar of his high school. It remained a secret for the rest of his life.
