Spring Rally in Newburgh NY, May 12-15, 2010 The Pierpoints and Rogers are hosting the Spring Rally in Newburgh, NY on May 12-15, 2010. We will be staying at the Ramada Inn in the beautiful lower Hudson Valley near the West Point Military Academy. We have some of the most beautiful riding roads and countryside in the Northeast. Spring will be here and everything will be green again. Over the last twenty years the four of us have often said we would like to host a rally in our area, and it is finally happening now that three out of four of us are retired. This is the first rally of the year, and we look forward to a great response. We will be touring West Point and its Museum, visiting Orange County Choppers’ great store/showroom with their theme bikes, going on two scenic rides, one to Baer’s HD in Hawley, PA and another to O’Toole’s HD in Wurtsboro, NY. We will also be visiting the Purple Heart Hall of Honor, and The Trotters (Harness Racing) Museum. There are a lot of points of interest in the area, and we have set up maps/directions for optional trips on your own to the Brotherhood Winery, Franklin D. Roosevelt Home/Museum, Culinary Institute of America, Vanderbilt Mansion, Woodbury Commons Premium Outlet Center, and beautiful ride routes through the Catskill Mountains and lower Hudson Valley, to Cold Spring, NY across the river, and to Harriman State Park and Perkins Memorial Drive Overlook. We look forward to showing you our ‘neck of the woods’ and enjoying the camaraderie of seeing each of you again. Ride safe. George & Ineke Pierpoint and Joe & Eileen Rogers

Just a quick note to catch you up. First of all we
were very touched and happy to see the Harley
Dressers show up on Leonards 88th Birthday. He
had not been very well all summer but really
“perked up” after the Party. In October he went
back to the Doctor and is having trouble with
weakness & balance. Doc says heart surgery is
not possible at his age. We still get out for a meal
once in a while. Nancy Conrad

Get your kicks in a Corvette on Route 66
I was fascinated with the article by Rose Daniels
about “Get your kicks on Route 66”. I drove that
route in June of 1964 in a brand spanking new
1964 Corvette, after graduating from the Univ. of
Buffalo (SUNY at Buffalo); and returned in late July
or early August of that year to report to active duty
as a new Ensign in the U.S. Navy.
I didn’t start in Chicago because I was coming
from Buffalo, but picked it up in St Louis where I
stopped overnight at a TEKE fraternity house - as
Ronald Reagan and myself were TEKEs !!!
I remember all those little towns through the Texas
panhandle, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, etc.,
and the songs that were written about them
( Tucomcari) by Jimmy Rogers and “Take it easy” by
the Eagles – “standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona” ( which came later); and, of course “
Get your kicks on Route 66”. I would love to do it again on my ’09 FLHX – in fact, it is on my
“Bucket List”.
I remember how surprised I was to find out that it could actually get “chilly” in some of those
southwestern towns, of altitude, on Summer nights in NM and AZ; and how hot it could be
during the day, especially in the desert. I remember buying a “puppy” on the top of a moun-
tain, somewhere near Albuquerque for $5 at a “Cherry Cider” stand on my return trip to Buf-
falo - a great but strange dog, that my Mom was sure had some “mountain lion” in him be-
cause he would sleep on the top of my Dad’s Pontiac convertible .
I remember taking 52 hours returning from CA to Buffalo, most of the way with this new
puppy, never stopping at a motel but pulling over and getting a few “winks” and walking the
dog.
I am thinking next year may be the last year that I might want to consider doing a ride like
that, but “who knows”. Can you forward this to Rose, or give me her contact information, so
I can find out how I could participate, and what time of year this great trip is held?
What memories a trip like this would have for me.
Thanks,
Dave Colbert

Travis and Joe &

serve a high tip of
the hat for the won-
derful party. The
l o d g i n g , t h e
weather, the food, the music, the staff, our members‟ camaraderie and the Toys for Tots mili-
tary personnel, were great beyond description. Ineke and I are so proud to belong to such a
wonderful organization.
Some facts about the history of Toys for Tots: The first toy donated to Toys for Tots in
1947 was a Raggedy Ann doll handcrafted by the wife of Toys for Tots founder, Colonel Bill
Hendricks. In 1948, Walt Disney designed the now famous Toys for Tots train logo. The train
logo was included in the first National Toys for Tots posters, which was also created by Walt
Disney. Children make up 19% of our nations‟ population but are 100% of America‟s future.
There are 13 million children living in poverty whose family can barely put food on the table,
much less buy gifts. Together we have made a difference in their lives!
In 1947, Toys for Tots began with a single local campaign in Los Angeles, California.
Now over 60 campaigns later, Toys for Tots has campaigns in 657 communities nationwide.
The program was started in Los Angeles in 1947 to provide Christmas toys to children disad-
vantaged as a result of World War II.
Thanks to the US Marine Corp., more than 188 million underprivileged children have
had their Christmas dreams come true in the past 61 years. To this I want to add that over the
years, our members have been a tremendous support to the Toys for Tots program and you all
deserve a humble pat on the back for the sacrifices you have made for this cause. I know our
support will continue.
Thank you, Ineke & George, proud members.

Harley Dressers‟ 2009 Christmas Party, Gettysburg, PA
Once again we returned to the Eisenhower Hotel in Gettysburg for our annual Dressers‟
Christmas Party. This year it was familiar as we drove up to the hotel, as we were here last
November and again this past July. It was warm and misty, but it didn‟t dampen the spirits
of our members who were looking forward to seeing dear friends and spending time together
in this beautiful area. We had 107 attendees this year, as well as five Young Marines and
two parents. Hal Camblin, US Marines Retired, officiated the presentation of colors as our
own Charlotte
Snyder sang
the national
anthem. Nick
D‟Apice gave
the blessing
before dinner.
As always,
our Dresser
members
brought many
beautiful toys
for the Ma-
rines‟ Toys
For Tots Pro-
gram. We
had a fleet of
bicycles do-
nated this
year, nine of
them! Our
Santa, Chuck
Weishorn,
was unable to
attend so Jean
Gagnon rose
to the occa-
sion to be
„Santa‟s
Helper‟, and shopped at the local Good Will and Dollar stores for her all red „helper‟
outfit. You see, we had children attending the party and we needed a Santa, or his
Helper (Jean), asap. It‟s always special to have family members attend, and we were
happy to welcome Gene Snyder‟s granddaughter, Lily, Brenda Coston‟s daughter and
her children Dennis and Emma, and Cecil King‟s brother TJ and his wife, Shirley.
Family and friends are always welcome to attend our Dressers‟ Christmas Parties. We
welcomed three new member couples who attended, Tracy & Ruth Walters from Do-
ver, DE, Tom Sharer & Naomi McNulty from State College, PA, and Tom & Betty
Oswalt from Dover, PA. We look forward to seeing you at our rallies in 2010. Thanks
to Jean Gagnon for her contribution of the beautiful holiday centerpieces she made for
each table and gave away. She placed a sticker on the seat bottom of one chair at each
table for the winner. Dottie and Skip Megee ran the 50/50, and Denny Drake won.
Denny donated $60. of his $160. winnings to Toys for Tots and the Young Marines
organization. Leonard Zimmerman from Boynton Beach, FL was the longest „rider‟.
We were happy to see you, Leonard, and appreciate your efforts to come such a long
way to be with your Dresser friends. George Pierpoint and Earl Reynolds, future rally
hosts, spoke about plans for their upcoming rallies in 2010. George & Ineke Pierpoint
will host the May 2010 Rally in Newburgh, NY, and Earl & Joyce Reynolds will host
the July 2010 Rally in East Windsor, CT. Hope to see you there!
We wish you and your families a blessed Christmas, and good health and safe riding in
2010!
