The Great Commission in
Cambodia Dean Reed and I traveled to Singapore and to Cambodia in June for the purpose of developing our relationship with the Missionary Deanery of Cambodia. The Rev. Tit Hieng, Chairman of Anglican Church in Cambodia, and members of the staff, escorted us to Pursat Province, along with a group from St. Andrews Community Chapel in Singapore. The church communities of the Pursat Province are our adopted outreach relations, in partnership with St. Andrews CC. We visited with Pastor Keo Huel, who works with the mission stations in the province, and in a group visited several loca-tions and congregations of worshiping Christians. Our goal was to determine what the people felt were needs that we could assist with to help the church grow. It was agreed that the development of a town church is needed to consolidate activities and missionary efforts, and to create a recognizable Christian presence in the area. In addition, it was stated that a focus on discipleship and the deepening community relations would benefit through health education and sanitation pro-jects.
With the preceding in mind, it was agreed that we would join with St. Andrews to raise funds to purchase property with an existing building in Prey Smaich Village in the town of Leach, and funds for materials to construct five shared toilets and the construction of nine water wells.
Please consider contributing to our part of the project, which is approximately $18,000. We have raised over $7,500 to-ward our goal and hope that all will join in this mission. We also ask that you pray regularly for the people of Cambodia and those working to make Christ known to them. This is a country with 14,000,000 people who do not know Christ and is open to our efforts. We also ask that you consider a mission trip to Cambodia, short term or long term. There are pledge forms in the office and the Narthex for your donations. We will continue to provide information about Cambodia and our work there.

e-Mail Addresses & Cell Phones Our policy has been that we publish only home phone num-
bers in the parish directory. In addition, we have not included
e-mail addresses for privacy reasons. Based on a number of
requests to do so, we have decided to include e-mail ad-
dresses and cell phone numbers in the directory on a VOL-
UNTARY basis. Please remember the online directory is
password protected so this information is not readily available
to anyone outside the parish. If you would like to have your
cell phone numbers and email addresses included in the Parish
Online Directory, please send the information to Ron Turner
at [email protected] or call 817-919-9044.
Weekday Christian Education Men’s Bible Study begins Tuesday, September 14th, follow-ing the 6:30 a.m. Mass. We will meet in the Church Confer-ence Room.
Dean’s Bible Study on Luke and Acts meets on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Library.
Father Foster’s Class meets on Thursday nights following the 7:00 p.m. Mass.
In the Christian liturgical calendar, there are several different Feasts of the Cross, all of which commemorate the cross used in the crucifixion of Jesus. While Good Friday is dedi-cated to the Passion of Christ and the Crucifixion, these days celebrate the cross itself, as the instrument of salvation.
In some parts of the Anglican Communion the feast is called Holy Cross Day. We commemorate this day on September 14th each year.
The true cross is said to have been discovered in 326 by the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine I, Helena of Con-stantinople, during a pilgrimage she made to Jerusalem. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was then built at the site of the discovery, by order of Helena and Constantine. The church was dedicated 9 years later, with a portion of the cross placed inside it. In 614, that portion of the cross was carried away from the church by the Persians, and remained missing until it was recaptured by the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius in 628. Initially taken to Constantinople, the cross was returned to the church the following year.
The date of the feast
marks the dedication of
the Church of the Holy
Sepulchre in 335. This
was a two-day festival:
although the actual conse-
cration of the church was
on September 13, the
cross itself was brought
outside the church on
September 14 so that the
clergy and faithful could
pray before the True
Cross, and all could come
forward to venerate it.

Are You Called To Be A
Daughter? Of the King, that is. The Order of the Daughters of the King is a group of women striving to fulfill the promises of our Baptismal Covenant through the adoption of a Rule of Life. Every daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and personal evangelism, dedicated to the extension of Christ’s Kingdom and to the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish. Prospective members go through about an 8-week discernment study before being admitted to the order.
St. Anne’s—Anglican Chapter of DOK at St. Vincent’s adopted Leily, an orphan at Our Little Roses Orphanage in Hon-duras, several years ago as our on-going service and evangelism project. Leily is now 13. We support her financially and spiri-tually with our prayers. In addi-tion to prayer, daughters also help with projects in our parish and community. We come together in a monthly meeting to unify our prayer efforts and in support of each other.
A Discernment Process to become a Daughter of the King will begin in September, the Sunday after Rally Day. We will meet during the 11:30 a.m. service. If you are inter-ested in becoming a daughter or would like more informa-tion about this, please contact Darlene Pruitt (214-725-0061, [email protected]). Completing the discern-ment process does not obligate anyone to become a daugh-ter if she is not led to do so.
If you would like more information about daughters, please feel free to pick up a brochure in the Narthex or visit with any daughter. You can identify us by the cross we wear.

Archbishop Kwashi To Preach At
Deacon Petta’s Ordination The Most Rev. Dr. Benja-min Argak Kwashi is Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Jos and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Jos in the Church of Nige-ria. He and his wife, Gloria, live in Jos, Plateau State, in Northern Nigeria. They have six children, three of whom are away from home studying at University or Polytechnic.
Plateau State is Bishop Kwashi’s home; he was
born in the village of Amper in 1955. He grew up in a Chris-tian home, and his father was a noted teacher and education-alist. He attended the Nigerian Military School, but when he received a clear call to go into the church’s ministry in 1976, he turned his back on a military career. He trained for the ministry at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria, and it was there that he met Gloria. After ordination and marriage they served in a variety of rural and urban parishes and set-tings in Kaduna Diocese (northern Nigeria) until in 1990 he was appointed Rector of St. Francis of Assisi Theological Col-lege. From there he was called to be Bishop of Jos, where he was consecrated and enthroned in 1992.
Both the Bishop and his wife hold a Bachelor of Divinity de-gree; the Bishop is also a Doctor of Ministry and a Doctor of Divinity. The Bishop has held many positions on Boards and Trusts both within Nigeria and internationally. He is cur-rently the International Chairman of SOMA (Sharing of Min-istries Abroad). In 2003 he was conferred with the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
In 2000, after serving as a lay minister at St. Mark’s Church in Menouf and a priest at All Saints Cathedral in Cairo, the Rev. Dr. Mouneer Hanna Anis was consecrated the third Egyptian bishop of the Episcopal / Anglican Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa. He was installed by retiring President Bishop Ghais Abdel Malik as the President Bishop (Primate) of the Episcopal / Anglican Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. President Bishop Mouneer is married to Nancy Samuel Marcos and they have two sons, Shady (Director for Alpha in Egypt) and Ramez (Accountant at Barclay’s Bank).

The Astute Anglicans are having great fun. We meet for a pot luck dinner on the third Friday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. After dinner, we either play games, have a great discussion concern-ing whatever, and on occasions we go out to local events. We have been to hockey games, community theater, as well as musical events. If you have reached the age of Astuteness or are even approaching that age, come have an evening of great fun and fellow-ship. We do not check ID’s or membership cards, bring a few.

Dear Friends in Christ,
Thank you so very much for the love, prayers, visits, and sup-port you gave to
John and me as we walked the final leg of the path of John’s transition from his earthly life to a heavenly life. Your love sus-tained us along the way. Through God’s grace, John is now healed and peace is upon us both.
With love and gratitude.

It appears that we have collected over $2,000 for support of the Cambodia Mission. This is a mission that you are able to see immediate impact from your contributions and support. This is a great opportunity to spread the gospel and make a difference now. Your support of the Cambodia Mission and other contributions to the Benevolence Fund do more than you ever know. Thank you for your generosity and support.
Your continued financial support for the various ministries and special funds and special needs are essential. We’ve had good support for the Mortgage Fund and continued support of the DMR fund and others. We need your continued support. One of our primary goals has to be the reduction and eventual elimination of the debt of over $2 million. That’s why we need everyone’s support.
The School’s recovery continues. It has been a difficult year and we have many to thank for their commitment of time, hard work and treasure. Most recent was the repair of bleacher seats in the gym. This group was very creative in coming up with a solution to make repairs and save about $10,000 in the process and at the same time, improve the appearance of the bleachers. They look great!.
Our goal is to Make Jesus Christ Known In All That We Do!

This is a great event - put together a team and develop a theme. It's a lot of fun and a good test of your culinary ability. With any effort whatsoever, your chili or chili/Jackpot beans will be fine. Believe me - I've tasted some bad stuff, I mean really bad. There is no award for "Worst". So, what have you got to lose? The Judges don't know whose chili/Jackpot beans they’re tasting - it’s a blind
taste test. So go for it - there will be some great prizes.
If you don’t want to cook be a Sponsor this year - $150 to be a sponsor for The Chili Cook Off. Please return completed application

14 Ways Children’s Ministry
Benefits Children 1. It promotes their eternal happiness. I want my kids
to find indestructible joy in Christ.
2. It helps them make sense out of life. Only under-standing who made the world, what went wrong and God’s plan to fix it can explain this world we all experience.
3. It’s their best chance to accept Christ. Research has proven that kids tend to be more receptive to the Gospel than any other age group. I want my children to have every opportunity to believe in Jesus.
4. It helps avoid some negative outcomes of sin. Only God’s grace can change our hearts. When children under-stand the great price that Jesus paid for their salvation, they are more likely to stay on the way of the righteous.
5. It can help counterbalance worldly influences. Everyone knows the harmful influences present in our soci-ety. Kids need positive influences to tip the scale.
6. It can help them learn to love others. The 2nd great-est commandment is to love your neighbor. We must teach this as a way of life, because it doesn’t come naturally.
7. It is something fun to do. Do you know who invented fun? God did. Do you know why? For his own glory.
8. It helps kids want to come to church. There is noth-ing wrong with having a program that appeals to the inter-ests of children, especially when it brings more children to hear the Gospel.
9. It helps them make new friends. Some of the best ones children will ever make are in the church.
10. It helps discover and intervene in abusive home situations. This is something we rarely address. But the church is often one of the few safe places on earth for abused children.
11. It helps children get to know their pastors. One of the best ways for ministers to connect with younger fami-lies is by participating in the children’s programs.
12. It gives kids meaningful keepsakes. Those VBS and Sunday School crafts often become prized possessions. The Bible verses on their keepsakes will remind them of what they have learned for years to come.
13. It gives children special memories. Think back to when you were a child in Sunday school. Can you remem-ber a special teacher or event?
14. It allows them to make friends with adult volun-teers in safe context. In our culture child safety is a con-stant concern, and rightly so. But there is still great value in kids finding adult mentors in the church.

These classes are for you! It is for you even if you are a long time member of St. Vincent’s. A number of Vestry members, present and past, have attended. And a number of those members who are especially regular in church and in parish leadership have attended. Many who have recently become members of St. Vincent’s through baptism, confirmation, and/or transfer.
Here are some of the present and previous members who have attended the classes: Don Bendure; Chris Webb; Rudy Jackson; Joe Kalbfleisch; Joan E. Miller; Thom Murrell; Robert Boyer; and Jake Hart. Please ask any of them about their experiences as members of the classes.
When you try it you will like it!
This 25 week course of instruction in basic Christianity is intended for those adults who are preparing for baptism and/or confirmation, for those who wish to refresh or deepen their own understanding of the basics of Christian faith and practice, and for those who are curious about Christianity. No commitment is involved in attending the class.
It is based on the series of 31 classes developed by the Rev. Homer F. Rogers during a ministry of over 35 years, first at St. Barnabas, Denton, and then at St. Francis, Dallas. What I have done, primarily, is to condense them. Although I have made some changes and additions, to a great extent these are Father Rogers’ (“Padre’s”) instructions.
The class begins with the lecture, which some have compared to a cursillo rollo. But, unlike a rollo, the lecture is seldom dull, in good part because of the marvelous stories and exam-ples which Father Rogers used to illustrate and clarify the teaching.
Xerox copies of the text of the evening’s lecture are handed out. Some folks prefer to learn by listening, others are visu-ally oriented, and still others use a combination of ap-proaches. So you can use the texts as you prefer.
The lecture is recorded on a cassette, usually a C-90 but sometimes a C-120. They are later transferred to an mp3 CD. Copies of the tapes and CDs are made available to those who miss the class as well as to those who want to be able to re-hear the lectures. Also it is common for people who come to the classes to lend tapes to their friends. I have high speed CD and tape duplicators. I buy blank CDs and cassettes in large lots. So the price is very cheap. Thus I can either lend the CDs and tapes or sell either for $1.00 each.
When the first side of the C-90 cassette is done and the re-corder stops, we enjoy about a fifteen minute intermission. Often members of the class bring refreshments to enjoy dur-ing the break.
Following the intermission, the lecture resumes and usually takes fifteen to thirty minutes to finish. The tape recorder continues running.
Next comes the discussion. The lecturer asks each person, in turn, to mention at least one point in the lecture to which he had any kind of reaction at all—positive or negative. The points are listed on a dry erase white board. Then the group is asked to say any-thing they wish about any of the points. The most desirable form of the discussion comes when the people are speaking to each other about the points, etc., rather than just to the lecturer.
The result of the discussion is that the members of the class inter-nalize the material and they develop a sense of trust with the other members of the class. Furthermore, by the end of the 25 weeks, a strong sense of community will have emerged. Usually they hate to see the series of classes come to an end.
Those participants who are already members of the parish find that they are closer to each other. Those who decide to join the Church come into her already having a close relationship with those of her members whom they have met in the class. The result is that the Body of Christ is built up.
Rev. Canon Richard A. Cantrell, SSC St. Vincent’s Cathedral Church Bedford, Texas August, 2010
Note:
The classes normally meet in the school library on Sunday morn-ings at 10:45 a.m. and are over by 12:45 or earlier. This year the series will begin on Sunday, September 26th.
Baby sitters are provided as needed. If you anticipate needing a baby-sitter please notify the parish office a few days in advance.
I would like to extend a special thanks to Scott Molder, Joe Kalbfleisch, Brett Cantrell, Frank Dickey, Mark Cleveland, Mere-dith Molder, Charles Dowden, Deacon Andrew Petta, Bob Thornton, and Ken Monk for all of their hard work in repairing the bleacher seats in the gym. With their help, we were able to provide an attractive, cost-effective solution.
