“Imagine the Possibilities”

Mark your calendars for the annual summer reading program June 15-August 3!

The theme for children is “Be Creative @ Your Library”. We are planning some terrific

events incorporating art, dance, music and other creative themes. The programs are

pre-paid with your tax dollars, so take advantage of these wonderful activities. In

addition to the entertaining events, we also offer a reading log to motivate young

readers during their summer vacation. Participants who complete the reading log

receive prizes and may attend the final summer reading program party on August 8.

Babies through fifth graders are invited to join this fabulous, fun, fantastic program!

“Express Yourself” is the theme for Teens this summer. The librarians and

Teen Advisory Board are busy planning events that reflect the creative theme. Art,

dance, music, cooking and film events will offer something for everyone going into

grades 6-12. The Teen reading log includes several aspects of the library in addition to

reading. Prizes and a fun final party on August 7 are rewards for completing the log.

Each completed participant will be entered into a random drawing for a laptop

computer sponsored by Telcom Credit Union.

Join the Adult Summer Reading Program for another fun

summer of Book Bingo! The purpose is to have fun, try something

different, and join the kids in summer reading. You don’t have to be

an avid reader to enjoy this program! Book Bingo is for everyone who

enjoys the library or wants to learn more about library services.

Everyone will receive a prize for participating.

Registration for all programs will be available on our

to be used on your brick according to the following brick sizes and

locations:

There are two brick sizes to select from:

- 4”x8” brick pavers for $100

- 8’x8’ brick pavers for $250

There are two brick locations:

-The Entrance Path which will include

bricks for personal or business dedications.

-The Military Service Path, which is dedicated to those who

have served or are currently serving in military service to

our country.

If you wish to be a part of the Lasting Legacy Brick Campaign, please

stop by the library and pick up a form today or go to www.ssldl.info

and download a form from home. Your gift is tax deductible to the

extent allowed by law; please consult your tax professional regarding

any specifics related to your donation. All proceeds will go to

support the expansion of the library, its programs and materials.

Check-out a Michigan State Park! The Library of Michigan, Macy’s and the

Michigan Department of Natural Resources

have teamed up to create a program called

Park & Read. Starting May 22, 2009 patrons

will be able to visit the library and check out

a pass to any of the 98 Michigan State Parks

and Recreation Areas. Passes will work

similarly to the Museum Adventure Passes.

The pass will be good for 7 days from the

day it is checked out; patrons are only allowed one pass per card.

The program will run through September 25, 2009.

Kevin Kammeraad, Michigan Children's author, poet and

performer will be doing a presentation of interactive family

poetry, puppetry, music and more. Kevin performs an all ages,

completely interactive show sure to please all audiences. Along

with his sidekick Jacob, Kevin performs songs and poetry from

his original, award winning books and CDs as well as some songs
