The Student-AthleteNCAA Eligibility Center All high school student-athletes wishing to compete in college

must register with the Eligibility Center. The NCAA national office does not handle initial-eligibility certifications. Please do not contact the NCAA national office with inquiries regarding an individual's initial-eligibility status, including whether transcripts, student release forms, etc., were received or about when you will be cleared. The Eligibility Center maintains and processes all of the initial-eligibility certifications.

The Student-AthleteTest Scores:

Division I has a sliding scale for test score and grade-point average.

Division II has a minimum SAT score requirement of 820 or an ACT sum score of 68.

The SAT score used for NCAA purposes includes only the critical reading and math sections. The writing section of the SAT is not used.

The ACT score used for NCAA purposes is a sum of the four sections on the ACT: English, mathematics, reading and science.

All SAT and ACT scores must be reported directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center by the testing agency. Test scores that appear on transcripts will not be used. When registering for the SAT or ACT, use the Eligibility Center code of 9999 to make sure the score is reported to the Eligibility Center.

The Student-AthleteAmateurism-EligibilityRequirements:In response to the NCAA membership's concern about amateurismissues related to both international and U.S. students, the eligibilitycenter will determine the amateurism eligibility of all freshman andtransfer college-bound student-athletes for initial participationat an NCAA Division I or II member institution. In Division III,certification of an individual's amateurism status is completed byeach institution, not the eligibility center. If you plan to participate in intercollegiate athletics at an NCAADivision I or II institution in fall 2007 or thereafter, you must haveboth your academic and amateurism status certified by theeligibility center before representing the institution in competition.

Amateurism-Eligibility Requirements

When you register with the eligibility center, you will be asked

about benefits and activities that might impact your status as

an amateur. The information you provide about your athletics

participation will be reviewed and a determination will be made

as to whether your amateurism status should be certified or if

a penalty should be assessed before certification. If a penalty is

assessed, you will have an opportunity to appeal the decision.

Page 28: The College-Bound Student - Athlete. The Student-Athlete RECRUTING REALITIES by JACK RENKENS (Jack Renkens, an ex-college coach and athletic director,

The Student-AthleteThe following pre-collegiate enrollment activities will be

reviewed for amateurism eligibility: 1. Contracts with a professional team. 2. Salary for participating in athletics. 3. Prize money. 4. Play with professionals. 5. Tryouts, practice or competition with a professional team. 6. Benefits from an agent or prospective agent. 7. Agreement to be represented by an agent. 8.
