The CLASH AT CLAIREMONT The Clash at Clairemont celebrated

their 10th anniversary on June 25th!

In early June, I teamed up with Beauti-

ful Mission Beach, the Mission

Beach Town Council and Supervisor

Ron Roberts to host the Mission Beach

FLY Summit. The problem is a summer

infestation that is magnified by 20,000

visitors each weekend to this tiny strip

of land. The City of San Diego had pre-

viously provided a second trash

pickup during the hot summer months,

however, that service was eliminated in

lean budget years.

Together, the community helped to convince my Council

colleagues to approve my request for an additional trash

pickup this summer. This has been several years in the making

and I am grateful to our City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, Mayor

Kevin Faulconer and the City Council for helping to make it a

better summer for residents, visitors and business owners.

Zapf announced that 125 bins for temporary

trash and recycling bins will be placed in Mission

Bay, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, and Ocean

Beach to prepare for the anticipated July 4th

crowd of beach and park goers in her district.

“People put your trash in the garbage

bins...how hard is that?” said Zapf.

I was pleased to join Mayor Faulconer, Council President Lightner and

Councilmembers Cole and Gloria at the 2017 Budget Signing.

It was a good year for San Diegans! The Mayor presented a great

budget and the City Council unanimously supported this collaborative

effort.

Many city services have been restored to pre-recession levels with an

emphasis on infrastructure , public safety and arts & culture. District

Two will benefit from more funding for Police, Fire and Lifeguards, im-

proved street lights, increased Park and Recreation Staff at Mission Bay,

Mission Beach Fly Abatement, Street Paving just to name a few.

Over 300 volunteers picked up 1,131

lbs. of trash left on the beaches and

bay from the 4th of July weekend.

The entire Council District 2 staff
