Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into

my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Gospel: Matthew 13:44-52 Jesus speaks again about the “reign of God,” telling the parables of the buried treasure and the merchant’s search for pearls. In each parable, Jesus emphasizes that the “reign of God” is more precious and valuable than any treasure. “Jesus said to his disciples: The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again and out of joy goes and sells all he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price he goes and sells all he has and buys it.” At this time of the year it is not rare late in the day to find a person on the beach, moving from left to right, with a metal detector, listening for a sound to reveal a coin, or other valuable, beneath the sand. I often wonder if something of value surfaces. Jesus tells us what the treasure is, what the pearl of great price is, but how do I react? Does it move me, to put other things aside, to move below the surface and discover how blessed I am? We might hear the detector signal us, but we must bend, sift and reach out to discover what is really important for our spiritual lives. The treasure and the pearl are the life of grace, the gift of God’s very life, accepted by me, and shared with others. What are the treasure and pearl for me today?

The request to remember a loved one during the celebration of the Mass is an ancient and honored custom. The manner in which we allow for Mass intentions has become overwhelmed due to the limited number of Masses in a given year. In order to allow more Epiphany families to participate in this practice the following policies have been put into place:

1. A family may request only 3 Masses at one time.

2. Each family may request only 3 WEEKEND Masses per year.

3. All other Mass requests need to be for daily Masses during the week.

In order to give everyone a fair opportunity to request a mass intention, they will only be taken in person, until a reasonable time has passed.

Once again, the Mass intentions for both Easter and Christmas masses will be offered for all parishioners; living and deceased. Mother’s and Father’s Day intentions will be offered for all mothers and fathers both living and deceased on their particular day.

Our 2021 Mass Book will open on Monday, July 13th.
