POSTLUDE “Finale” arr. Shelley LUKE 23:33-43 (NIV)
“When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, ‘He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.’ The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar and said, ‘If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.’ There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: ‘Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!’ But the other criminal rebuked him. ‘Don’t you fear God,’ he said, ‘since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.’ Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ Jesus answered him, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.’”

CALL TO WORSHIP (from Colossians 1) L: May we be strengthened by God’s power. P: May we be prepared to endure all things with patience and thanksgiving. L: Praise to our God who has and continues to rescue us. P: May we be freed and renewed in His forgiveness and His truth.

CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Prayer of Confession: (In Unison)
King Jesus, we come to you today thankful that you are the great I AM. We know that there are times when we question your presence and your sovereignty. Forgive us and allow us to be renewed by your way, truth, and life. May we see ourselves through your eyes, Lord, and be cleansed by your healing love. May we look to you as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Announcements for November 20, 2016
THANKGIVING EVE SERVICE
We invite you to attend the Thanksgiving Eve service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, in the Sanctuary. An offering will be taken and given to St. Mary’s Food Bank.
MEMBERSHIP ORIENTATION TODAY
If you are considering joining our church family or simply want more information about The Church at Litchfield Park, please come to our brief membership orientation in Fireside Room South immediately following the 9:15 a.m. service TODAY. New members will be received next Sunday at either the 9:15 or 10:45 a.m. service. If you have already been to an orientation session and would like to join or if you have any questions about the process, please contact Peter Dale, Membership Chair, at [email protected] or call the church office at (623) 935-3411.
HANGING OF THE GREENS
The Hanging of the Greens, a favorite church tradition, is Sunday, November 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Families will share the fascinating legends behind several of our most popular Christmas traditions. While the carols are then sung, families will hang the wreaths that put the finishing touch on the church’s Christmas decorations. Following the service, there is fellowship with wassail and cookies in Souers Hall.

CANDLELIGHT MESSIAH
The Church at Litchfield Park will be presenting a “Candlelight Messiah” on Friday, December 16, and Saturday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The program will be the Christmas portion of Handel’s “Messiah,” performed by the Chancel Choir, guest soloists and accompaniment. Ticket sales for the congregation are now on sale, in the church office during the week and Sunday in the breezeway, for $20. Beginning November 27, tickets will be made available to the general public. You are welcome to purchase as many tickets as you desire for family and friends, however, sales are on a “first come, first served” basis and must be paid for by check or cash at the time. Please be advised that seats will be sold by row. This will be your only chance to hear the Messiah, as the Christmas Cantata, on Sunday, December 18, will be a different program.
CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP
Caring for a loved one, though rewarding, can also be very challenging. In many cases, the family is the primary source of support for an individual who is no longer able to care for themselves alone. The responsibility is often very demanding of time, energy, health, and resources. The Caregiver Support Group will meet on Sunday, November 27, from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the South Fireside Room, Kathy Bilak (Physician Assistant specializing in Radiation Oncology) and Pastor Lynne will be hosting a support group for caregivers on the fourth Sunday of each month. The goal of the Caregiver Support Group is to teach and encourage self-care, as well as provide a forum of support and understanding from others facing similar situations.
ADULT BIBLE STUDY
Bible study will not be held next Tuesday, November 22 or Wednesday, November 23 because of Thanksgiving. On Tuesday, November 29 at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, November 30, at 6:45 p.m. in Souers Hall, we will begin a new three-week series focused on the birth of Jesus. During our journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem we will be taking an in-depth
look at Mary & Joseph, Mary’s visit to Elizabeth, the trip to Bethlehem, and Jesus’ birth. Please bring your Bible and a writing utensil if possible.
