RESURRECTION JOY!RESURRECTION JOY!RESURRECTION JOY!RESURRECTION JOY!
“Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground,
dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat.
But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over!”
John 12:24 (The Message)
“So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy …”
Matthew 28:8
Back in January, we began this new year together by embarking on a Pil-
grimage to JOY. And now, with the coming of Easter, we arrive at the great
climax of our journey – at last! Remember the
words of the angel at the empty tomb on that first
Resurrection Morning?
“… I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was
crucified. HE IS NOT HERE; HE HAS RISEN, just
as he said … Go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He
has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you
into Galilee …’” (Matthew 28:5-7)
Immediately, the women ran for their lives! … And so did the men! The
fact is there was a whole lot of running going on that day. The Gospel of
John tells us that both Peter and John ran to the empty tomb that morning to
examine it … But then what? … Did they run back home and bolt the door
behind them? Because that’s exactly where we find them next – hiding out
and trembling in fear (see John 20:19).
What’s going on here? The Bible clearly says they were “afraid yet filled
with joy!” And understandably so! It’s not every day that a crucified man
rises up from the grave – “the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1

The Mission Statement of Fallbrook Presbyterian Church: To bring people into a relationship with Jesus Christ, grow them up as His lifelong disciples, and gather them into a
Christ-centered community where they can experience and express God’s love.
Cor 15:20)! It’s not every day that mere mortals
come face to face with their divine destiny, with
their very future gazing back at them through the
eyes of the Son of God, the Second Adam! “Just as
we have borne the likeness of the earthly man,”
says the Apostle Paul, “so shall we bear the likeness
of the man from heaven!” (1 Cor 15:49).
No! This is certainly not “business as usual,” that’s
for sure! On this unforgettable Day, the disciples’
entire understanding of reality and how the world
operates was being dug up and turned completely
inside out. With the Resurrection of Christ comes
something both terrifying and glorious at the same
time: it’s the dawning of a whole NEW CREA-
TION! The labor pain of a groaning planet
wracked by sin and death is now giving birth to the
start of a brand new humanity (John 16:21-22; Ro-
mans 8:18-23)! On that first Easter Sunday morn-
ing something radically unique, something un-
speakably wonderful and totally life-changing oc-
curred in the very heart of the universe. And now
the very trajectory of history and the fate of human-
ity has been forever impacted and forever changed!
Now God has raised Christ from the dead, “and
seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,
far above all rule and authority, power and domin-
ion, and every title that can be given, not only in the
present age but also in the one to come. And God
placed all things under his feet and appointed him
to be head over everything for the church, which is
his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in
every way” (Eph 1:20-23). Now, “Death has been
swallowed up in victory! Where, O death, is your
victory? Where, O death, is your sting? … Thanks
be to God! He gives us the victory through our
Lord Jesus Christ!” (1 Cor 15:54, 57)
So here’s our great challenge today as God’s Easter
People, and it is the same one faced by the very first
disciples: In view of this awesome New Thing God
is doing, will we run away from the Risen Christ
and hide behind locked doors in fear and trembling
… or will we run out into the world with joy and
excitement, eager to share this Good News, know-
ing that our Lord has already gone on ahead of us to
meet us there (Matthew 28:7)? Because when we
meet Him out there, out in the midst of a hurting,
searching world, and reach out with his love and
mercy and healing grace, we suddenly discover
something we never expected. Easter is not the
end of our pilgrimage to joy after all … but rather, it’s merely the beginning! It’s the start of
a whole new lifestyle as we learn what it means to
die daily with Christ, so that we might also rise
with him and walk in newness of life for all eter-
nity. Everything Christ taught us – every parable,
every beatitude, every lesson about forgiveness and
grace, loving our enemies, and living a life of peace
and reconciliation is now not only validated by God
Almighty, but empowered and made alive within us
by his Resurrection Spirit!
Because he lives, we will live also – not only after
we die, but right here and now - with a whole new
understanding of Reality and how life operates in
the Kingdom of God. As Paul says, “We no longer
evaluate others by what the world thinks about
them” (2 Cor 5:16). Now we have been empow-
ered to be Christ’s representatives on the earth,
bringing his message of reconciliation and peace to
everyone, “not counting men’s sins against
them” (2 Cor 5:19). Or, as the Message puts it,
“God uses us to persuade men and women to drop
their differences and enter into God’s work of mak-
ing things right between them” (2 Cor 5: 20). Will
we run and hide from this message or share it
openly?
Folks, during this beautiful Easter season, whether
we are exploring a new denominational affiliation

Fresh Encounter by Henry Blackaby, Richard
Blackaby and Claude King guides believers
through the biblical pattern of experiencing God’s
presence that leads to revival in the church, a
spiritual awakening in the world. As churches
today search for the right ministry to reach their
community, the Blackabys’ teaching will help them
return to their “first love” of Christ so He can work
powerfully in them and through them. Come join

A Study of the Beatitudes
by Jennifer Kennedy Dean In this study, author Jennifer Kennedy Dean
explores the Beatitudes. By bringing in the distinc-
tively Jewish setting of Jesus’ inaugural sermon,
Jennifer uncovers fresh nuances and overlooked
undertones. Her distinctive communication style
and approach to the Scripture is on full display in
this challenging, encouraging, indispensable study.

They agreed we should go to the Gentiles, and they
to the Jews. All they asked was that we should con-
tinue to remember the poor, the very thing I was
eager to do. The Apostle Paul, Galatians 2:9-10
What does CROP stand for? When CROP be-
gan in 1947 (under the wing of Church World
Service, which was founded in 1946), CROP was
an acronym for the Christian Rural Overseas
Program. Its primary mission was to help Mid-
west farm families share their grain with hungry
neighbors in post-World War II Europe and
Asia. Today, CROP means Churches Respond-
ing to Overcome Poverty, with Hunger Walks
providing opportunity for interfaith hunger educa-
tion and fundraising. Why do we walk? Hungry
people in developing countries typically walk up
to six miles a day to get food, water and fuel and
to take their goods to market. By participating in
our 3-mile walk, we symbolically join in solidar-
ity with their struggle for existence. We walk be-
cause we want to join others in ending their hun-
ger.
Throughout the month of April, our Fallbrook
Presbyterian Church walkers will be looking for
people to sponsor them in this year’s walk. As
the Lord leads, there are a couple of ways that
you may sponsor the walkers. First, you may
sponsor one or more walkers with a cash or check
donation. You would do this by signing a
walker’s sponsor form (Donation Envelope) and
then giving that walker your cash donation or
check made payable to “CWS/CROP.” If you
prefer, you may support all our walkers by giving
your donation through a designated account of the
church. In this case you would make your check
payable to Fallbrook Presbyterian Church with a
memo of “CROP Walk 2012.”
75% of the money our community raises goes to-
ward world hunger relief. The remaining 25% is
given to support the work of the Fallbrook Food
Pantry.
We began signing up walkers on March 18th and
will continue to do so until April 22nd. Those in-
terested in being a walker are invited to stop by
the CROP Walk table on Sunday mornings to ob-
tain a Donation Envelope. This envelope is used
to record and store all sponsor donations. All
walkers are being asked to return their Donation
Envelopes (with sponsor donations enclosed) to
our CROP Walk coordinator, Paul Patterson, by
April 29th. If you have any questions about this
year’s CROP Walk, please contact Paul at fall-
[email protected] or call him at

For the Love of Easter!
This season is a time to celebrate the promise of
new life we have in Jesus…and we are so thankful
we get to share His Life and the hope of His com-
ing with our church family. As we rejoice together
in His resurrection, we want you to know how
much we love you and appreciate the children of
God that you all are.
God is alive in everything and the whole world
is becoming bright and new through His grace.
Children’s Ministries, personally wants to thank all
our volunteers for loving our children with God’s
love as well as their own. You came into our min-
istry like miracles from God…actually you are an-
swered prayers.
We appreciate how hard you work every
week sharing your faith and love of Jesus with our
children. You teach, tutor and listen with enthusi-
asm and excitement that can only come from the
Holy Spirit that lives inside you. This is very im-
portant during the Easter Season because you help
the church reach people who only attend church on
Christmas and Easter. The experience a child could
have here at Fallbrook Presbyterian Church Sunday
School, Los Amigos, or AWANA could be the one
that ignites the fire of knowing Jesus Christ and
learn how to become one of His disciples.
Easter is a perfect time to invite your
neighbors and friends to attend our church. That’s
why it’s so important to create an environment that
draws new people to Christ. Our church does that
every week.
Lastly, it is because our own children’s min-
istry volunteers realize the true importance of
Easter, and how their efforts are for the Lord, not
the church. This truth is what helps build their own
spiritual growth.
Join our team; together we can multiply our
ministries from Me to We!
Mark your Calendars:
*VBS is on the church calendar for June 25th
thru 29th. The theme is “Babylon! Daniel’s
Courage in Captivity”. Terri Marroquin, Betty
Falls, Susan Holthaus, Brianna Anderson, Catie
Timme, Teresa Johnson, Karen Austin, Janel
Kohout, Alex Wilson, and even my sister, Susi
Heath have already committed to this fun-filled
week. Please notify Beth Ann soon so you, too,
can be part of this team. A second planning
meeting will be set up soon. We want to get all
volunteers in place before everyone’s summer
plans are set.
*AWANA is in full swing. We have several new
cubbies, and T & T’s. Thank you volunteers for
making this program such a fun and welcoming
program for our children. Thursdays at 3:30
p.m.
*Our Awesome Tutors are working so hard
each week with their Los Amigos students. We
still have room for any adult who wants to come
and be a part of this ministry. Tuesdays at 2:30
p.m.
*We will begin a new “Elevate” series on April
15th. The Sunday school team has been teach-
ing “Jesus’ Parables” for children these last few
weeks. They have really enjoyed the applica-
tion made just for them. They really got it.
Maybe we should offer a class for us adults?
*If you have a 2nd grader or older and want
them to learn about Communion, please see
Beth Ann or call the church so we can set a
class up with Pastor Jerome. The child must
commit to 2 meetings.
Loving your children through God’s ways,
Beth Ann

The Lord has given each of gifts to use to
minister to one another so that “in all things God
may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom
belongs the glory and the dominion forever and
ever (I Peter 4:10-11). We have nothing to offer
others that we have not first received from the Lord
(I Cor 4:7), so the glory belongs to Him.
To learn humility, perhaps we could follow
Corrie’s example. If we receive a compliment for
something we’ve said or done, let’s privately give a

deserves. —Anne Cetas

Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983) was a World War II concentration camp survivor
and Christian who became a popular speaker around the world. Thousands attended
her meetings as she talked about how she had learned to forgive her captors just as
Christ had forgiven her sins.
After each meeting people surrounded her and heaped accolades on her for her
godly qualities and thanked her for encouraging them in their walk with the Lord.
Corrie said she would then return to her hotel room, get down on her knees and pre-
sent those compliments in thanks to God. She called it giving God “a bouquet of
praise.” —Our Daily Bread

Thanks for your prayers and other support.
Ministry involves interaction with people, but it
also involves the world of spiritual beings that we
do not see and do not fully comprehend. And by
prayer we have access to God Himself, who reigns
over all powers and things, both seen and un-
seen. Thank you for your partnership in minis-
try. Together we are working to establish reproduc-
ing churches, penetrating the unreached of the
world, and by doing that, bringing glory to God.
HAITI CHOLERA The Haiti cholera epidemic remains a huge prob-
lem. The disease has now spread to every part of
the country. With rainy season coming, concern is
growing that many more could die. Haiti is spread
primarily when people drink contaminated water.
PARTNERSHIP Charlyn and I are on our way to meet and pray with
some friends from another group regarding possible
ministry partnership in East Asia that could prove
very strategic. We also will see our Son Hal while
we are on the road. Please pray for safe travel and
that we all will be tuned in and responsive to God's
guidance.
MY SISTER JENNIFER Thank you for praying for her as she battles colon
cancer. At her last checkup, doctors told her the
two small tumors in her liver are no longer detect-
ible and there is no other visible cancer in her
body. They believe it could be there in microscopic
amounts that tests do not detect, so she continues
her treatment. But this is a very encouraging step in
the right direction.
NEW WORKERS FOR THE AMERICAS During the last few months, I have had contact with
a number of people who are interested in possible
ministry with World Team in Haiti, Brazil, and
other places. They are at different points in the
process of their journey into mission. So mainly,
we just need to pray for them as they seek God's
guidance.

will visit later this spring to see life and ministry
here first hand. What would get you here?
Young Christians are taking exciting steps of faith
as God works on their courage and compassion
for their lost coworkers, friends, and family mem-
bers. The next large Story of the Soul outreach is
being planned by and led by some of these believ-
ers we have been discipling. Becky continues to
disciple Gulzhan whose ministry to others is really
growing amidst personal challenges of life. Bob is
helping a young professionals group develop
further with their heart to see colleagues reached
with the Gospel and to deepen their spiritual walks.
This multi-national group is beginning to gel into a
community that is supporting and spurring one
another on to spiritual maturity in Jesus.
Thank you for prayers the other week as Bob was
rushed to the hospital. All is stable now, without
pain. Surgery needs to be scheduled to remove his
gallbladder, likely at a local Turkish Hospital this
March. Pray for a clean, safe surgery with quick
healing.
Celebrating at the Young Professionals group. Please also pray for the following:
o For the Young Professionals group to form into a
strong expanding movement. o For fruitful conversations between Bob and men
like Kairat (newly met). o For relationship with landlords to become more
relaxed and personal, enabling us to share more; for
their spiritual openness. o For Becky as she takes steps in preparing for a
new Spiritual Directions group for women.
o For health of the family. All have been fighting
colds, coughs, etc.. o Provision: Medical needs, schooling, ministry

Faith Matters
By Marcy Burge
As you read this, Easter is upon us and the impor-
tance of the Resurrection has filled our conscious-
ness and hearts. The ultimate sacrifice our Lord
made for our redemption on Good Friday has been
reenacted and pondered and the solemn wait for the
glorious sunrise on Easter Sunday will be lived out
in the hearts of all believers. Chocolate will
abound, hams will be baked, the twice-a-year pew
dwellers will pack churches, celebration will take
place and all those sacrifices and good intentions
made through Lent will be a thing of the past.
But, what then, pussycat? Where does that leave us
with our walk with the Lord?
I heard a great sermon the other day. The subject
was being present to the Presence. It was ex-
plained that our Lord is present when we come to-
gether in prayer; in scripture and Holy Communion
but the lingering question remained: When are we
truly present to the Lord? When do we open up and
really let him in? Do we look at our watches and
judge whether the sermon was too long or do we
revel in the fact that we have come to worship him
on Sunday? Are we there for what we get out of it,
or are we sitting in that pew bringing our inner
selves, our ‘longing for him’ selves before him?
When we pray is it in petition for something we
need or want, or do we just want to grow closer?
Where are our hearts? Do we really want this God,
who is so present, in on every aspect of our lives?
These are the tough questions I had to ask myself.
My sweet friend, Art Deming, gave me a great
book recently that I have come to cherish… thanks
Art! It is called “When God Winks at You,” by
Squire Rushnell. It is a compilation of short stories
about God breaking through the ordinary in extraor-
dinary ways. How he winks at us and gives us little
signs that he has heard our prayers or has acted just
to let us know he loves us. I can’t tell you how
much I have delighted in every story. The come-
dian, Tim Conway, was a recipient of one such God
wink. When he was a boy he saved his money to
go to a carnival. He had a whopping 50 cents so he
checked out all the booths for the best prize ahead
of time. He came to a glow in the dark crucifix that
he wanted in the worst way. The object of the
game was to fish for the right duck out of a slew of
them for the coveted prize. After using up his
money and not winning, he told the Lord of his dis-
appointment. Just then he looked down and there
was a dime on the ground before him. He took that
dime, and you guessed it, won the glow in the dark
crucifix. To this day he still has that crucifix be-
cause to him it was a sure sign that God hears our
prayers.
There also was a story about a woman whose friend
tore out a newspaper article for her because the per-
son looked just like her. For some reason the
woman kept the clipping. Thirty some years later
her son was getting married. His fiancé had lost her
mom and was missing her at this very important
period in her life. It turned out the woman in the
clipping was the fiancé’s mother and the girl was
given a mother-in-law that looked just like her
mom. What are the chances?
Story upon story there are miraculous encounters
that some would call coincidence, but the author
calls them “God winks.” A phone call at just the
right moment, a much needed miracle just in the
nick of time, the millions of ways God blesses us
every day with health, loved ones, treasured
friends, a great church family like we have here at
the Pres and a zillion other gifts! Think of the many
ways God has been present to us over and over
again in our own lives. Sweet gestures of his love
for us, his people. Do we really see him in that
spectacular sunrise? Are we aware of him in that
person who just happens to have the answer to our
prayer? Do we acknowledge him in all our provi-
sions? Do we see him in the difficulties of our lives
where we are being shaped through adversity? I
have hundreds of stories, many I have shared with

you. You probably have a ton of God winks in your
own history. Money that popped up when you
were down to your last dime; a phone call from a
friend when you felt most desperate; the ability you
have to take another breath! They are all gifts from
our God!
I have really struggled understanding people who
refuse to embrace faith in our loving God. It sad-
dens me so. I see their misery, how lost they are
and when prayer is initiated on their behalf or
church is suggested they shrug their shoulders and
look away. They don’t need a church to find God
they say. So they go about their business not ex-
periencing the miracle that is in place through a
community of believers, like my friend Art who
thought of a great book to lift my soul or a church
service that feeds us with spiritual food and fellow-
ship. They focus on their lack and being miserable,
the differences they have with organized religion,
instead of embracing the beauty before them in a
relationship with the one who loved them into exis-
tence and a church family just waiting to embrace
them. Their lives are all darkness because they are
without these venues that bring them closer to the
Light of the world. I listen to their complaints;
make my suggestions, knowing in my core that
there is so much for them in a relationship with Je-
sus Christ and the beauty of a faith community to
uphold them in their struggles. That very commu-
nity, people who are connected to the vine (Jesus
Christ), are who Rushnell calls “God winks links,”
people God uses for his purposes to comfort and be
his arms and legs. Think of what an honor it is that
we his people are given to be his arms and legs! To
pull those stinkers in who don’t realize how much
they need our sweet Lord!
During Lent there was a beautiful song that kept
coming into my consciousness called “Save Your
People, O Lord.” The first stanza goes like this….
“Save your people O Lord, show us the way to
come home again … We have been wandering far
from your love ... Save your people, O Lord.”
Why is it that we wander? Why is it that we grow
too busy; too distracted; too stubborn to open our
hearts completely and take him in, not just on Sun-
days, if we are truly present, but always? Why do
so many souls act out in rebellion, when all God
has promised us is his unfailing love? It was his
unrelenting love that drove him to the cross, so that
we would be saved by his sacrifice. It makes me
want to grab these rebellious souls by their shirt
collars and shake them till they get it because so
much is at stake! So much is available if they
would only believe and participate! So much love is
theirs for the taking if they open their hearts to the
one who loved them so much he gave his very life
so that they could live eternally. “Save your people,
O Lord!”
I had a great God-talk with Bob Mann the other
day. Gees, this is another reason to be in commu-
nity… the insight of others on the spiritual path.
Bob came up with a sparkler of an insight. He said:
“Did you ever really think about the 10 Command-
ments, how they are more about God’s character
and what he holds dear and who he is, rather than
it is about rules and regulations?” Ponder that for
about two months! That is our God, that’s why he
came so that we would get what this goofy world is
all about. He came to bring us hope, insight into his
character, peace in our hearts and told us the great-
est of all the commandments is to love. Why can’t
we take that in? Why do people shrug their shoul-
ders and look away? How can we be that God-wink
link to those who just don’t get it? How can we, as
believers, be more present to His Presence, more
closely connected to the vine, so we can be aware
of how we can be his feet and hands (His God-wink
link) to those who need him the most?
In order to be more present to His presence and im-
pact those who God puts in our paths, I suggest we
need to be right smack dab in the middle of the
three venues outlined above where our God is truly
present. We need our noses securely planted in
Scripture so that we know who God is and what it
takes to be a true follower; we need to be a stead-
fast, participating member of a Christian commu-
nity of believers so that we can be aware of our
God-wink-link opportunities to others; and we need
to be truly present to our God in our Sunday wor-
ship services where all these venues beautifully
come together. 1) Being fed on His Holy Word and

Helicopters 101 They say that airplanes fly, but helicopters beat the
air into submission. I used to think that aerody-
namics was simple until I started flying helicopters.
What makes a helicopter fly? The aerodynamic
life-blood of a helicopter is its rotor blade rotation.
As those blades rotate, they produce lift. But for
every rotation of the blade, there is an equal and
opposite reaction, making the helicopter spin about
its vertical axis. To compensate for that, helicop-
ters have another set of rotors at the tail, countering
this rotation. They are called anti-torque rotor
blades.
OK, so maybe that is more information than
you care to know. I share this to give you a flavor
of our lives in the cockpit. A helicopter pilot is
trained to manage this aerodynamic engineering. It
is a constant manipulation of the controls that
makes a helicopter do what the pilot commands it.
But what happens when one component fails?
Training is a very important part of a helicopter
pilot’s career. You can never over-train a pilot. I
just spent two weeks practicing emergencies like an
engine failure, tail rotor failure, hydraulics failure,
etc. I was training to do this from the co-pilot seat
to act as an instructor pilot, as I also must train
other pilots in like-manner.
As Julie and I get ready to pack up for our home
assignment in the States, I have been training our
new pilot, Justin Wallhoff, to take over the flying.
Justin and I have recently returned from Kuala
Lumpur, where we were training in a new helicop-
ter called a Long Ranger. Again, the training never
ends.
This new helicopter will be imported to Indone-
sia soon. It will serve us well in our place of
ministry as we are able to transport more cargo and
people. It can carry two more passengers and has
extra space in the cabin for transporting bulky items
interior.
Family Visit Interior For New Year’s, Julie, the kids and I were able
to enjoy an amazing time at one of the interior
church plants. We welcomed the New Year with
an isolated mountain tribe nestled in the mountains.
What an amazing experience to worship with a
group of people who were, at one time, driven by
fear in their animistic beliefs. We had opportunity
so share with this small church about our lives and
roles in missions. I believe they were able to see a
new perspective on the role of support work in the
great commission. Later, I was told by the mission-
ary serving in this particular village that the people
were challenged to view missions as more than just
preaching and teaching.
Abby, Ethan and Isaac had opportunity to make
friends with the tribal kids. They ran around the
jungle, played games, and even played soccer in a
small clearing. It was an amazing opportunity for
the family to be a part of what we have supported
for so many years.
Home Assignment It is really happening!!! After almost five years,
we are finally returning to the States for home
assignment. We will be in the States for one year!!!
So what will we do with all that time? Our objec-
tives will be as follows: 1. Visit, visit, visit with our
family, churches, supporters and friends; 2. More
training as I continue growing as a helicopter pilot
(a stagnant pilot is a dangerous pilot); 3. Some rest
and recreation as a family; and 4. Homeschooling
our kids.
We will be traveling across the country around
August of 2012, and then again in February of
2013. We look forward to reconnecting with the
many who have supported and prayed for us, and
sharing about what God is doing here in Indonesia!!

Thank you for being a part of our lives and minis-
try. May the Lord richly bless you in the days
ahead!! Because of Him,
Steffan, Julie, Abby, Ethan & Isaac
Prayer and Praise 1. Praise the Lord that our tickets home to the
States have been graciously provided for!!
2. Pray that we can finalize the import of our new
helicopter before we leave for the States. We
are still waiting on paperwork and signatures!
Please pray!!!
3. Pray for a place to stay in N.Y. while we are
there from September to February.
4. Pray that we find a vehicle (something like a
suburban) in the States that will serve our
needs.
5. Pray that we will have sufficient funding for
more helicopter training while in the States. I,
Steffan, will be looking to add an instructor’s
rating for helicopter instruments. This will help
me to provide more training to missionary
pilots from within our organization.
6. Pray for Julie and the kids as they try to finish
school by the beginning of May. This will give
us three weeks to pack up before we leave the
country on May 23rd.
Thank you so much for your prayers!!!

was true since my mom died three years ago, I
have not received one single letter. My mom was
the only person who ever wrote me.
I cried out to The Lord early that morning while in
my cell and He saved me. But I want you to
think about this, where would I be today if you
hadn’t taken the time to write those letters or bake
those cookies? It’s been almost two years since
I’ve given my life to Christ. I have never been so
happy and content. Even though I am doing a life
sentence I have seen God use me in this place to
bring others to the saving knowledge of Christ. I
no longer want to die, I want to live and I want to
serve Jesus with my whole heart.
Thank you, volunteers who come into this place
regularly to bring the hope of God’s love to us.
You remind us that there are brothers and sisters in
Christ who care about us. You bring the
love that most of us never knew. God Bless you.
Your brother in Christ, B.

Greetings to you in the glorious name of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I am a servant of Christ even though I am
doing life in prison. It is my joy to share with
you a brief part of my testimony when The
Lord opened my eyes to the truth.
I was on the verge of committing suicide by
killing as many correctional officers as I could
before being taken out. The darkness that had
invaded my mind, heart, and soul was so
powerful that I was convinced that death was
my only refuge. I was so deeply tormented by
guilt, shame, and loneliness that I believed that
there was no hope and I just wanted it all to
end.
Until the day when a very odd but happy
encounter occurred. Unknown to me someone
had put my name in for Kairos and I was
selected. The Kairos weekend just happened to
be a few days before I would go on my ram-
page. I decided it could wait until after Kairos.
On the first day of Kairos I remember telling
all of the volunteers, “All I want are your
cookies, not your religion.” For the first three
days I listened to all of the talks from the
outside team. I tried to be patient and kind as
they demonstrated God’s love in action, not
just words.
On the third day of Kairos I was given a gift of
unimaginable worth. It wasn’t money, or food
but it was what I needed more than anything. It
went much deeper than the physical, it went
right to the heart. I was given a bag of letters.
Letters of encouragement and grace, from
complete strangers. Each letter was full of love
and prayers, for ME! I couldn’t believe it. To
be honest I was so overwhelmed with emotion
that after reading the first three I had to go the
restroom to cry. I received over 120 letters that
day. As I continued to read them God’s love
began to break through the darkness of my
heart. The light of His love was almost too
much to bear. His glorious light illuminated
my dark murderous heart.
The next morning around 2:30 AM, I couldn’t
sleep so I read some more letters and ate some
more cookies. I stopped and cried out to God,
“If you are real, show me a miracle.” Nothing
happened. Again I shouted, “If you are God,
then let me know it, show me a miracle.” It
was then when God spoke to my heart. He
said, “Son, you are reading your miracle.” It

Members of our church have written 55 sets of forty letters to the inmates attending the last two Kairos
weekends. Appreciation for writing letters to the inmates who participate in the Kairos weekends can be
truly felt by sharing the following letter written by inmate "B" from R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility. I've
known this man for two years and I can say that he is "on fire" for God and is a real Christian leader inside
Donovan prison. He has brought many men to Christ through his personal witness to share the love of Je-
sus. He didn't include the fact that he was baptized by Pastor Roger Ziegler soon after he accepted Christ
into his life.
If you want to share in this amazing ministry, please contact Ben Baumgarten, Loren Martin, Jerry Maurer,

or a new name for our church; whether we are reaching out to others
with God’s love and mercy, or reconciling with brothers and sisters in
Christ who have offended us or hurt us in the past, let us do it all in the
Resurrection Power of our Lord Jesus, who makes all things NEW!
This is how we experience the JOY of the Lord in all its fullness – not
by insisting on the old ways of suspicion and hostility and “us against
them,” but by gladly embracing our role as Ambassadors for Christ and
Instruments of His Peace! “Listen carefully,” Jesus said, “Unless a
grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any
more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces
itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life
just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love,
you’ll have it forever, real and eternal.” (John 12:24-25, The Message).
This is the true meaning
of Easter as Christ
brings us home to the
very heart of our Heav-
enly Father!
